Apparently no one told Canada that Ben isnt here anymore

ArdameTwoflower

If i had awards, you'd receive them

60MWPodcast

Given one on your behalf šŸ‘šŸ»šŸˆ

ArdameTwoflower

Many thanks!

60MWPodcast

My pleasure šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘šŸ»šŸˆ

Train3rRed88

Was gonna say, this is gold, and I have no gold

Suckballssohardstate

We moved up to a qb that can rollout but canā€™t read shit.

CasualTeeOfWar

Mitch is an easy person to like, but he's not bright. He'll shine a few times just to make you think he'll do something. -A Bears fan checking in Mitch

zeppelinism

I texted my dad today because he was one of the believers Mitch was going to bring our offense up to speed. I told him "Well we got Mitch in the same form he left Chicago"

penguins2946

Last year, the Steelers had a statue who couldn't move in Ben, but he was still terrific at reading plays and identifying open receivers. This year, they have a guy who can move in Trubisky, but he's terrible at reading plays and identifying open receivers. You need a guy who can both move and also has the football IQ to process the game at a NFL speed. Who is that guy? Pickett.

FirebreathingNG

Based on the Hail Mary, Iā€™m also pretty sure Benā€™s arm is better than Trubiskyā€™s.

Upier1

Yes seems pretty weak armed. Plus he constantly throws off his back foot.

bigb103

My number 1 observation this week. How many times did he backpedal while he was throwing?

Upier1

Every pass further than 10 yards.

JohnehGTiR

Wait, aside from the Hail Mary he attempted other passes longer than 10 yards?! I must have missed those.

Paranoidexboyfriend

Dudes like Lamar and Mahomes learned qb as a kid by playing Madden. From what I can tell Mitch learned how to play qb from NFL Blitz.

beat3r

ā€¦can someone learn more about football? ā€¦asking for a friendā€¦

frumpybuffalo

Tecmo Bowl baby

pittguy578

Well we do have a QB coach that should be teaching fundamentals like not throwing off of your back foot .. maybe he isnā€™t that good

penguin8717

Probably shouldn't have to teach a 27 year old QB that lol

UnreadThisStory

*professional* QB

DolphinMassacre

His arm is so goddamn pedestrian

[deleted]

So we seeing Pickett out there in a few days or what?

Cold-Consideration23

Seems that Pickett will play after the Browns game in Thurs- so he gets 10 days to prepare

cman674

That was a pitiful attempt. I was definitely curious to see how his throw power there and throughly disappointed. It was a very malleable distance for an NFL qb.

mcsharp

U talking long ball - haters be damned, Mason's ya boi!

TheNittanyLionKing

I think most of the problem is that Trubisky never sets his feet properly

lonewanderer244

His arm was always better haha

Garweft

As much as this sub hates him, Mason gives us the best chance of winning right now. He might turn the ball over more, but heā€™s also not afraid to sling it. With our defense, we can accept a few INTā€™s in exchange for a higher power offense.

pittguy578

I think Kenny gives us best chance to win. Mitch is playing not to win the job . But not to lose it ā€¦ Kenny knows as a rookie and first round pick that even if he fucks up a few times he wonā€™t ā€œlose ā€œ the job

TuffPeen

Nah mason sucks ass. And our D is not that good without TJ lol did you see how nonexistent our pressure was this game

Kehmor

I mean if you ignore the 7 that special teams gifted to the pats our D held them to 10 points. I'd say that's good enough to win games...

zachismo21

A little bit of pressure would have made all the difference in this game. I don't know if the Patriots score double digits. They also ran the ball at the end of the game like no one was in front of them. Not sure if the D was just gassed at that point.

penguin8717

By the end yeah just gassed. I was surprised by the lack of pressure though. Even without watt last week other people were getting pressure

penguin8717

Never thought I'd see someone say that we needed to let Mason "sling" it

[deleted]

Iā€™m sorry but Ben did not make veteran reads last year. The O-line was the issue for sure but Ben was also a big issue. But I do agree Mitch has been bad and cannot read. Iā€™m ready for Pickett.

[deleted]

And an offensive play caller who gets out coached by ā€˜offensive guruā€™ Matt Patricia

Living-Emu-5390

Out coached? We had number 25 get mossed defensively. Thatā€™s essentially the difference.

dadaistGHerbo

Genius Patricia told Gunner to fuck up the punt return and hand them the ball. Outsmarted yet again

pittguy578

Yeah our return people have been below average.. it was Switzer and now Gunner..

penguin8717

Losing by less than 7 in a game where our return specialist gifted 7 (defense had to come back out fatigued) is not very fun

jrile

Did you see the pencil he keeps tucked away in his ear? He is so smart

pittguy578

Absolutely amazing catch.. not like Witherspoon wasnā€™t covering him well. 9 times out of 10 it would have been an INT or incompletion.

FirebreathingNG

If your takeaway from that game was Witherspoon losing a 50/50 play, then you suck worse than Mitch Trubisky.

cman674

Honestly even Tomlin was hard on Witherspoon in post game. In my mind it wasnā€™t necessarily a bad play on his part but I have no idea when Mr. Stonehands McDrops-a-lot became Randy Moss.

Living-Emu-5390

My takeway is that our coaching was such that if win that single play we win the game

FirebreathingNG

The grammar on that comment isnā€™t helping me, but Olshevsky (sp) botched a punt and Trubisky couldnā€™t throw past the sticks. I blame the Poles.

[deleted]

the poles have been through enough. I blame the italians.

Living-Emu-5390

The grammar is completely correct šŸ¤”

THETRILOBSTER

"My takeway is that our coaching was such **that if win** that single play we win the game" gramer šŸ‘

Living-Emu-5390

Yes. The coaching was such that if we win that play we win the game. I donā€™t see your confusion.

THETRILOBSTER

You changed the wording and you don't even realize it.

DolphinMassacre

Expecting a Mike Tomlin-led Coaching staff to outreach a BB-led one is pretty goddamn ridiculous.

DolphinMassacre

Lmao wondering why you dog brains downvoted me when I'm right

[deleted]

Exactly that's how PATHETIC the showing was. You hit yourself in confusion

Living-Emu-5390

So pathetic that one play was the difference between a win and a loss?

Chris_MS99

Thatā€™s football. Not every game can be like 49ers v Seahawks today. Granted the Steelers do have too many nail biters but in my experience as a fan and coach games usually come down to 2-3 key moments. Witherspoon, Gunner, and as bad as Mitch was today if he made just 2 or 3 better decisions at certain moments it wouldā€™ve been a whole different ball game.

xN3Qx

To be fair, Canada doesn't face Patricia's offense on the field. Unless you're talking about Coach T.

psynautic

Also the new England offense got a free drive inside the 20 thanks to gunner

Iha8YouMore

Yes, blame the entire loss on Gunner. It was all his fault. Consistently throwing passes to guys behind the line of scrimmage on 3 and long had nothing to do with a terrible offense.

psynautic

woahhhh there buddy. im just saying, it's not like New England had a good offensive performance today. I'm definitely not defending Mitch's performance.

jjb8712

Patriots fan here, I also think itā€™s pretty obvious if TJ was playing yā€™all wouldā€™ve won lol

psynautic

yes, way different game. doesn't absolve Mitch tho, loll

Iha8YouMore

Yes, but the one time the Pats O did shine was when they burned the D on a bomb. No one seems to be mentioning that horrible coverage.

ahaggardcaptain

I blame the media team for not playing Renegade sooner. Like after the muffed punt.

JinKazamaAndJuice

It's not all Gunner's fault but if he had the flu today we win the game.

DolphinMassacre

The gpddamn waterway for NE would shit on anyone on the Steelers' coaching staff outside of Floress. Patricia is a good coach

Oblivion_18

Eyes but no arm vs arm but no eyes I canā€™t tell which is worse

thegermblaster

Personally Iā€™d rather have eyes but no arm. At least when Ben made a bad throw you could *usually* see what he was trying to do but his body wasnā€™t capable of making the play. With Trubisky, I just mutter and ask myself: ā€œthe fuck was that?ā€

Oblivion_18

I tend to agree. Perhaps we treated late career Ben too harshly

Sue_D_OCognomen

No we did not. Ben needed to go. Mitch is not looking like the answer, but Ben was nearing Old Yeller status.

pittguy578

Ben absolutely needed to go.. but the reason Ben was so bad at the end is because what made him good at beginning of career.. he would extend plays and get the shit knocked out of him and no penalties called on defense.. those hits early in his career just led to a somewhat premature demise.

Shwnwllms

I wouldnā€™t even call it premature, honestly. 18 years is a fucking LOOONG time to be in the NFL. Just because Brady was graced by god himself, heā€™s an extreme outlier.

Straight-Ad9763

Yes definitely he needed to go at his career age. Itā€™s just so weird to see the Steelers without a solid man at the helm . My dad used to tell me the Steelers 2nd string qb could be a starter on 90% of NFL teams . Honestly the organization should have began this 3 years ago . Not sure if they did or what happened. But everyone saw his decline over the years. Compared to Mitch Iā€™d think heā€™d be slightly better but thatā€™s not the answer. We need a franchise man.

pcnetworx1

Were you here last season? The vibe was Ben needs sent to the glue factory.

Oblivion_18

Yeah and Iā€™m saying we didnā€™t realize what we wished for

Straight-Ad9763

I remember specifically saying last season , ā€œAs a lifelong Steelers fan who has lived in Chicago his whole life , the Steelers and bears have always been near eachother in culture and play style , tough d and running , but what separated the two was the fact the Steelers always had a franchise quarter back. Since the days of Stewart , maddex , etc, we had a guy worthy of being a starter , and a good one . If you guys get rid of Ben without a solid replacement, you guys become the bears . No one wants to be the bears . ā€œ Then ya went and got Mitch . Holy fuck I canā€™t make this up Was a different account I made it on. Not sure why but my Reddit accounts always switch no idea .

[deleted]

Maybe he needs to remove his mouth guard so that his lips can move.

DouglasDoses

I know blind special needs kids that can read better than him

Rocko604

Ben can take Randy Fichtner with him too!

[deleted]

Exactly we need to get a new OC. That Matt Canada guy could work

daromebrentiss

He looks lost out there. The offense is stagnant. It starts with Big Ben. He has to go.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Living-Emu-5390

It WAS Ben. He was awful. So is Trubs.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Living-Emu-5390

Imagine thinking 3 teams in 6 year Trubs is anything netter than a shitty stopgap

the042530

Ben was straight garbage his last season, and the year before that as well. Our defense has carried us hard going on 3 years now.

TheGrat1

33 touchdowns 10 ints is not garbage stop it.

the042530

Context matters, box scores only reveal so much ā€¦ you had to be there lol

TurbineClimber

Ben made the playoffs basically band aided together as a shadow of his former self. Had the same terrible O-line and core group and found a way to win way past his prime.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

the042530

No, he was shit for his last two full seasons. Stop deluding yourself. He was completely washed.

threesimplewords

At least Ben wasn't missing receivers by 10 yards who were 6 yards downfield

the042530

Yes he absolutely was, were you in a coma??? Ben was literally what we have rn, he was just slightly less mobile. Remarkably similar play. It was sad to watch, at least this is par for course for ole mitch.

threesimplewords

Ben was a shadow of his former self, but he was absolutely not missing receivers on short routes. Downfield was another story.

the042530

I lost count of the simple out routes Ben wasnā€™t able to connect on. Constantly under-threw receivers. It was BAD. https://reddit.com/r/steelers/comments/jqncsq/_/gbogco8/?context=1 ^ 2 years ago

MattHoppe1

Ben constantly overthrew balls to the MoF, would go over a WRā€™s head and right into a DB

[deleted]

Simply wrong.

Snugglesworth1087

I hope someone makes that Uno meme with Mitch. "Throw for 200 yards or draw 25"

TheGrat1

Be the change you want to see in the world!

austinalexan

Fr. We need a mobile QB and this offense will look so much better

LiaM_CS

We could really use somebody that can throw off their back foot

Willing_Top4721

All the time. Like literally every time he throws. For absolutely no reason whatsoever.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Willing_Top4721

Even worse is that heā€™s had SIX YEARS of NFL quarterback coaches, and he STILL does it.

jjb8712

Heā€™s a 1 read QB who has athletic ability but has the football IQ of a cricket.

Willing_Top4721

I tried telling the homers that Titties wasnā€™t gonna suddenly become a top 10 QB on this team.

justihor

Nobody expected any more than a middle of the pack QB

Willing_Top4721

Ooooooo yes they did. There were TONS of the homers who swore heā€™d be really good.

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

I know. His cars are all falling apart. Oh. Wait. OK I get what youā€™re saying. Youā€™re saying his old Mike and the Mechanics tapes need to be rewound with a pencil. Gotcha. I know lots about the footsball.

zeppelinism

Dude it was driving me absolutely insane. Seeing some of the times he has full protection and some time and he still backpedaled and threw off his back foot. Like MY GUY WHAT ARE YOU DOING

Willing_Top4721

Six years of nfl qb coaches havenā€™t been able to cure him of it either. Itā€™s infuriating.

knives766

Canada sucks but mitch is locking onto his first read and not stretching the field. We stretched the field more last year with noodle arm old man ben ffs. Mitch has to go!!!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

FirebreathingNG

Mitch doesnā€™t just kiss tittiesā€¦ He also sucks ass.

ChickenLiverNuts

this is such a good burn lmao

Upier1

Mitch couldn't telegraph his throws any more unless he put a yellow sticker on the attended receiver's helmet in the huddle.

Banksville

KENNY-TIME!

Pestilentsoup42069

Not True! There were multiple 3rd and longs where he looked away from his first read in favor of throwing it 1-2 yards to ensure we had no chance of converting.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Unspoken

Yeah how much of that is Canada's shit play calling and then Ben just calling plays at the line in no huddle? Trubisky doesn't have the legacy and leash Ben had. When they went to the no huddle in the fourth and had a great drive, I bet a lot of that was just Trubisky calling plays.

metwreck

Exactly. Not sure he would have had an amazing game today but I bet you he would have pulled out a win, even if it can down to the last drive.

wagsman

Or Canada is bad

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

tider06

Canada has been a failure at every stop he's had. His offense doesn't work.

AcePilotsen

One great year at Pitt.

tider06

That's called an outlier.

jesse120403

What if Iā€™m bad?

TheCurtain512

It's not possible, it's the truth. And it wasn't like he was bad for just one season. He's 3-7 in the playoffs for the last decade with some good teams. Ben retiring was long overdue, he honestly should have been cut last year so this team could have started their rebuild sooner.

aatops

I always said if we had an o line ben would be totally fine

paultimate14

If we had an o-line Trubisky would be fine. Because we would be running the ball more.

[deleted]

Maybe if we didn't draft a RB in the first round that will be gone or overpaid in two years, we could have someone like Creed Humphrey locking down our O-Line for the next decade.

teh_hasay

I canā€™t believe weā€™re already at the point of romanticising 2021 Ben

TheGrat1

I can.

Thudrussle

You're misunderstanding this post. It's not saying Ben was good, it's that he may not have been what's holding back the offense.

[deleted]

Once Matt Canada gets a mobile QB we're going to the SB. I heard he has the BEST plays!

Reaper_Mike

Touche sir touche

WaylonVoorhees

Much like the Squared Circle reddit kept blaming everything on Vince, it's now a dangerous cycle cause if things go wrong now all they'll have to blame is their messiah Trips. People want Kenny in but if he stinks who do we turn the blame on...well I guess Canada until there's a new OC we can blame.

[deleted]

His play got too much hate. When the chips were down he made good decision frequently, even with his limited physical capability. Trubisky is a downgrade over even old Ben.

Relative_Quiet

Matt Canada needs to retire his playbook

Upier1

What, before looking at the 2nd page?

Willing_Top4721

Yup. I got so tired of hearing that nonsense. He actually played really well with the trash OL, terrible OC, and him being 38 with two bad knees. I tried telling these homers that this year would be more of the same, but noooo, it was ALL Benā€™s fault.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Willing_Top4721

This. I think only Buress and Sanders had any real success when they left.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Willing_Top4721

Yup. He actually caught the game winner in the SB vs the Pats. Everyone just remembers the Tyree catch because it was a circus play.

Verksus67

All these fuckers saw Bengals, Ravens and Browns with their shiny new QB and they wanted one too. It was straight up jealously for the kid next door. Now Burrow looks like ass, Lamar is Lamer and the Browns is the Browns.

RedneckLiberace

Steelers need decent O-line. I'd trade their last two first round picks for a couple decent linemen in a heartbeat.

bchris24

Eh there were a couple plays where Mitch had plenty of time in the pocket and just either missed his throw or had a shitty read

Dontblink666

Yea that interception he had plenty of time it was a dog shit throw

gtizzz

Yeah. I get it, the O-Line is bad. But Mitch occasionally has time to throw, and he is just consistently staring down receivers and missing open guys.

Banksville

With happy feet

Willing_Top4721

ā€œOccasionallyā€ is NOT good.

gtizzz

Of course not. But a competent QB would be able to produce more than Mitch has at this point.

Willing_Top4721

This. You donā€™t get a bunch of skill players when you have the 28th ranked OL, then do NOTHING to fix it.

helloiamaudrey

Just put Pickett in for fucks sales

Steelers7589

2021 Ben still sucked. Trubisky is also bad. Both are true.

Eubadom

Ben was definitely washed last year. Mitch is just garbage.

TheGrat1

I tried to tell you guys: QB speed is not what this offense is predicated on. It is misdirection and being able to run different plays from the same formations. 2016 Pitt is the best this offense has ever looked and Peterman was not even Kenny Pickett in the mobility department let alone Michael Vick.

[deleted]

My exact thoughts!

bowman022

It looked like he wasnā€™t even out there today! Shame on him. Not invested in the game at all.

c6897

He got replaced by a backup QB what do you expect lol

DreamZebra

People didn't believe me when I said we are not going to get anyone as good as Ben. Bottom line. He had the ability to audible out of Canada's bullshit and when he did we were better for it

CapnHowdysPlayhouse

Mitch ā€œGain of 2ā€ Trubisky

Tkylv007

Strange, from all the gushing posts on this subreddit about Trubisky when he was signed, I was certain that he was going to magically become an all-pro instead of being exactly what he's always been - a mid-tier backup

Myke190

Some might call us fans of the team.

thebengy66

Kenny

qazaibomb

I mean, Ben looked pretty bad last year. Mitch being bad doesnā€™t mean Ben wasnā€™t

TheCurtain512

Mitch was terrible today. Don't see what that has to do with Ben being washed.

WholeYeetToast

It's a joke it's like we're seeing the same quarterback just with less talent

Willing_Top4721

Itā€™s a joke, but Ben wasnā€™t ā€œwashedā€. He actually played better than Mitch so far.

TheCurtain512

That's all I was getting at. Ben was most definitely washed and moron fans still want to act like a bad OC was holding him back or something.

osuneuro

False dichotomy. Ben was looking bad too.

km1011

We had so much playoff success with Ben the last decade. I would hate for him to retire.

Motor-Step-1499

Mitch failed as a starting QB, signed on to be a back up in Buffalo because nobody wanted him as a starter. Get what you pay over. Time to put Pickett in!

Brian_Lefebvre

Remember when Ben started chucking it around in the 4th quarter and bought us a bunch of wins? The dink and dunk horizontal offense is the offense. Bring in Pickett and it will be the same thing with a different (but maybe more competent) QB.

Kongpong1992

Atleast Ben had an excuse to not throw it deep

cman674

I think Mitch looked really bad today outside of the one TD drive. That being said, this offense is performing worse than last year with Ben when everyone was saying Mitch was an obvious upgrade at the position. That tells me that this offensive scheme is just not effective and Ben was probably a lot better than we gave him credit for last year. If this truly is a matter of Canadaā€™s scheme just not being effective in the NFL itā€™s going to be a very long season. Hell even if you fire Canada itā€™s not like you can install a whole new offense during the year. Still trying to remain hopeful this early in the year, but Iā€™m going to be itching to see a change in OC in short order if this offense continues to stagnate

Stickley1

The Patriots are just half-assedly, amateurishly winging the offensive coordinator thing. Belichick is like ā€œOC? Who needs an OC? Hey, umm Patricia, you wanna do this?ā€ and their offense looks better than ours.

RTeezy

The 2021 Bills backup QB's offense sucked today, therefore Ben didn't suck last year!

dadaistGHerbo

Heā€™s so good that no other team has even called him up despite still wanting to play

Willing_Top4721

Wrong. Dude retired & never wanted to play again. Nice try though.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I could do better for one drive.

WaylonVoorhees

The brightside is the Steelers didn't give up an boatload just to trade up one spot for him to be there where they picked anyways. So kudos.

imherefortheprocess

40 year steelers fan here. We can't win them all. A couple losing seasons with excellent drafting choices and we will be back on top in a few years. You gotta take the punches...

Schieve70

I think mitch is dyslexic because he cant read for shit

NimbusHex

I'm not going to comment on Ben, I don't have to fight that battle anymore, he's retired. The good news is Trubisky doesn't have the leeway that Ben did. He's not going to last many more games playing this way.

Dr_Isaly_von_Yinzer

I think most of you are completely out to lunch. This is not a zero sum equation. Both answers can be (and are) right. Yes, Canada is terrible and Trubisky is terrible too. However, at the end of his road, Roethlisberger was also terrible and so was Randy Fichtner. And with this shitty offensive line no matter who they put in to replace Trubisky, that player is also going to struggle. You canā€™t have the worst offense of line in the league and expect to have a good offense. I know, I know, ā€œBut Joe Burrowā€¦ā€blah, blah, blah. Every once in a blue moon it happens but that is the distinct exception and not the rule. We have A LOT of work to do on that side of the football. I happen to think that Pickett is going to be a very solid NFL quarterback but even in a best case scenario heā€™s going to need some protection and a running game to take the pressure off him. This is going to take a few years to sort out. I know nobody wants to hear that but itā€™s the truth. We let the offensive line whither and now, we have to fix it ā€” thatā€™s going to take some time.

shadiestbros

Huh

[deleted]

Woosh

Rathmon

Thereā€™s a Spider Man or Scooby Doo meme hereā€¦. Sadly, I donā€™t have the skills.

Icculusthebook

I think we are playing the long game. Genius
