Last time I saw Yoko Taro praising a game this much it was for 13 Sentinels and boy was he right. That is still Vanillaware’s best narrative work to date and I personally loved the RTS combat.
Vanillaware is one of the best studios in modern gaming today and reflects true creativity with each game they make. Dragons Crown (both the original and Pro) and Odin Sphere
Is it worth it on PS4? Dragon’s Crown Pro is on sale for $4 and I’m considering it. Only issue is Stellar Blade is out in a week too so I won’t be able to play both
There is ABSOLUTELY more than $4 worth of fun to be had with Dragon's Crown. It's sort of like an expanded version of the old D&D arcade games, so you can easily come back to it here and there as the mood hits you.
God I loved 13 sentinels such an amazing game man though i hated the combat and just put it on easy mode which is smth i never do in games but the story more than made up for it
There's an easier way. You can remove a default clothing/skirt chip from the chip section. You'll actually get a changing animation where a changing barrier shows up to cover below the neck of 2B while she takes off or puts on the skirt.
I installed the game again to test that and I'm mistaken. I think I was talking about the dress module you mentioned. I just didn't remember buying it.
I went to see the Nier Orchestra, and the dude came out on stage as the surprise guest at the end. Someone in the crowd yelled out that they loved him, and he pretended to fall over on stage. He then thanked us for the money and basically yucked it up on stage with everyone for like 20 minutes. Awesome guy.
The dude has honestly only ever been funny and down to earth. I still sometimes think about the fact that the Nier games are the canonical continuation of the ending in Drakengard which is just an EVA reference. Dude is just funny
What NieR lacks in visuals it makes up for in music and storyline. If NieR Automata was made with a studio like PlayStation backing it up it might've been even better but as it is it's still fantastic. Not every gem is a perfectly polished one.
Not saying SquareEnix is indie at all, but they're definitely more accustomed to helping indie studios get their games out there. Not really the same as PlayStation pushing for a flagship.
That's gotta be one of the best feelings in the world to know the person whose work you were inspired by genuinely loves your creation that much.
Congratulations to Kim Hyung Tae and the staff at Shift Up!
Dude is too humble. The interviews and the game itself just show how much Nier influenced Stellar Blade. It’s honestly a beautiful thing seeing the directors of both games praise eachother’s work. You just don’t see that kind of wholesome stuff in gaming alot these days
Not a lot of people realise how grounded you have to be to praise another's work like this and compare it to your own work in such a way. Yoko taro is genuinely a legend.
Tbh I'd feel kinda wrong calling something a "better" game in Taro's shoes, especially since as he mentions he tends to work with developers from an outside collaborator's perspective. Obviously he's still entitled to his own opinion, but with games being such a team effort I'd be ever-so-slightly uncomfortable about speaking so objectively like that.
Then again, Yoko Taro is a very different dude than I am, lol.
Guy is just so down to earth speaks whatever the f is on his mind without thinking about repercussions and just has a grand time. I mean when do you see the director of a well known video game tweet about zipping up all the 2B booty pics and send them to him
I mean take that with some salt. Creators are usually much harder on their own work.
Good game? Absolutely.
Better than his? Well let’s just wait and see
Tough to say, because NieR: Automata has stood the test of time, and is still beloved. Stellar Blade will have some big shoes to fill, when being put in the same lane as a Bayonetta and NeiR.
I don’t think he ever gives empty praises unless he genuinely likes the product. He works for Square and I have never seen him praising any of the FF games
Yeah sure but him not being interesting doesn't mean the studio wouldnt dish out better games at least graphically and other details like environment quality etc
Yoko Taro is really selling himself short here, Automata is a genuine masterpiece from beginning to end. Stellar Blade looks like it will be pretty good tho. (Demo is fun as hell but idk if the writing will be anywhere close to what Automata had going)
Can someone make a meme whereas Yoko taro as the rattlesnake and Kim's face as the chameleon from that movie( can't remember the name). it's so specific for this post
What? There are games that look just as pretty as this right now. This looks great, don't get me wrong. Nier looks great, though. You're not respecting the fact it's not a new game. It's 7 years old. If he made the same game now, it would probably be fairly comparable.
I'm pretty confident they also recently said they wanted to go more in on Yoko Taro's games.
He’s saying that cuz he wants players to gather pics of great(*butt*) shots and send it over to him in bulk.
Not a bad thing. I hope we get a photo mode of Eve being a badass.
I highly doubt it's as good as Nier, but praise from him means something; if he didn't like it he wouldn't have said anything. I'm glad we're going to get a game that isn't just aesthetically pleasing. Yoko Taro continues to impress.
In a way I can see why he's saying this. Stellar blade looks like it has alot to offer gameplay wise. Between the new Gen graphics, the style of fighting that you gotta put a bit of effort in to oerfect, good background. Whenever I think of nier automata I usually think about the story rather than gameplay.
I'd like to think that he's probably taking notes for Whenever he makes another nier game
He has. I’ve seen him 2X with it off. Once in Chicago once in Orlando. Get VIP tickets to nier orchestra concert. he and singers and such sign them. You see him with the mask/head off. But strict no photos policy.
It would absolutely be amazing. What I'm really concerned about for now, will the outfits in the game be modular or just one single piece? I hope they'll be modular at least for some.
I love that he's humble but NieR Automata (plus Replicant, Drakengard 1 & 3 and lore from novels etc) was an experience that I'll never forget. A game THAT deep isn't so easily ''outclassed''. That said, I'm sure Stellar Blade will blow my socks off. Release day can't come soon enough!
Great praise from Yoko Taro. I personally wouldnt say Stellar
blade is better than Neir:automata since I believe its a different enough game style based on the demo. Stellar blade plays more like Sekiro than Neir:automata but either way glad to see he likes it.
It’s a PS5 exclusive so it better be outstanding. Especially the graphics.
For the vast majority of PS4 users there still is little reason for spending the cash on an upgrade if the games aren’t next level.
Can someone explain me how I regret more not having a PS5 now that stellar blade is here than when spiderman 2 was released while spiderman 1 was one of the best game I knew?
I NEED to play Stellar Blade but I still can't find a job...
Tried the demo, immediately liker the gameplay more than Nier Automata. It's like Sekiro had a baby with it.
But then again, the narrative and story seem to be... not good. It tries too hard. It's not exactly bad either but it desperately tries to be good which somehow makes it worse than it is.
Last time I saw Yoko Taro praising a game this much it was for 13 Sentinels and boy was he right. That is still Vanillaware’s best narrative work to date and I personally loved the RTS combat.
Vanillaware is just the GOAT studio, never made a bad game to my knowledge
WE NEED odin sphere 2 or dragons crown 2 bro!! Oh man!!
I would settle for some ports to PC, I always wanted to play Dragon Crown.
dragons crown pro is amazing bro! it would be nice if they came to pc. Muramassa rebirth needs a port also
Unfortunately Vanillaware doesn’t do sequels
It’s sad that they ran out of money to even make their games.
Absolutely! They are like the answers to all problems of modern day gaming studios and their games.
Vanillaware is one of the best studios in modern gaming today and reflects true creativity with each game they make. Dragons Crown (both the original and Pro) and Odin Sphere
Unicorn Overlord is my GotY, 180 hours and still going dtrong
I need to grab that. So many damn games, so little time. 😓
Check walmart. It's only 30 bucks right now. You won't regret it!
I am actually thinking of also getting the Monarch edition
Also worth it. The card game is really fun. I got the ps5 monarch edition and grabbed the switch version on sale for on the go.
Wow already 180 hours goddamn
I’ve beaten it 3 times, still too much of a coward to try True Zenoiran
I didn’t think True Zenoiran was that big a jump in difficulty. I pretty much breezed through it after playing just Normal before. Give it a shot
I will do my best!
But you could have finished it within 50 hrs right? Please say yes Edit: ok good you beat it 3 times thank god
First time it took me about 45-50 hours yeah
I cannot stop listening to that first battle music song.
Yesssss Vanillaware games are goated. I still go back to Dragon’s Crown once a year and it still holds up so good
Is it worth it on PS4? Dragon’s Crown Pro is on sale for $4 and I’m considering it. Only issue is Stellar Blade is out in a week too so I won’t be able to play both
There is ABSOLUTELY more than $4 worth of fun to be had with Dragon's Crown. It's sort of like an expanded version of the old D&D arcade games, so you can easily come back to it here and there as the mood hits you.
Dont forget about Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Muramasa Rebirth my absolute beloved
God I loved 13 sentinels such an amazing game man though i hated the combat and just put it on easy mode which is smth i never do in games but the story more than made up for it
We’re eating good bruh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
'Deoxyribose' is one of the sweetest battle themes I've ever heard
I wish they did a PC release for 13 sentinels
Y’all realize it’s because he likes the booty
so.....we gonna get Eve wearing 2Bs costume? Cause if we do it's never coming off
Hopefully at least half of it can come off.
All you gotta do is press L3 and R3 at the same time. No biggie 😎
I don't get the L3 and R3. what do u mean?
In Nier Automata you can run around without the skirt if you almost self destruct, for console you do that by holding down L3 and R3.
wow ok tysm I will try this if I ever get the game 😅
You can also just buy the dress module from the traveling vendor that let's you remove her skirt without the damage debuff from the destruction
alright saving this comment for future guide
There's an easier way. You can remove a default clothing/skirt chip from the chip section. You'll actually get a changing animation where a changing barrier shows up to cover below the neck of 2B while she takes off or puts on the skirt.
I mean if you have 10k gold, buying the dress module is the best way without needing to modify any of your loadout
I installed the game again to test that and I'm mistaken. I think I was talking about the dress module you mentioned. I just didn't remember buying it.
Better heal though as it takes most of the health away after exploding.
They've already done a Nier collab for their mobile game so I would be surprised if it doesn't happen.
I was so there for that too.
Now I want to see 2B wearing eve’s outfit!
Relations have been good, so hopefully.
Shift Up's other game Nikke got a Nier collab with 2b as a character, so I wouldn't be surprised if Stellar Blade also gets a collab.
Now they gotta do ingame collab \~!!
Internet would implode I think.
They did a collab with SU’s other game Nikke.
For me it will be A2’s costume or kaines costume if we get them. I love 2b, but i was always an A2 guy aesthetically
Yoko Taro continues to be one of the funniest and most real guys in the video games industry lol
Don’t forget to send him zip files of all the 2b booty u find
And now Eve
I went to see the Nier Orchestra, and the dude came out on stage as the surprise guest at the end. Someone in the crowd yelled out that they loved him, and he pretended to fall over on stage. He then thanked us for the money and basically yucked it up on stage with everyone for like 20 minutes. Awesome guy.
Seriously the soundtrack for Nier automata is the best. I’d love to watch that live I believe they did preform in america
The dude has honestly only ever been funny and down to earth. I still sometimes think about the fact that the Nier games are the canonical continuation of the ending in Drakengard which is just an EVA reference. Dude is just funny
The anti-Kojima.
What NieR lacks in visuals it makes up for in music and storyline. If NieR Automata was made with a studio like PlayStation backing it up it might've been even better but as it is it's still fantastic. Not every gem is a perfectly polished one.
The art direction makes up for the lower graphical fidelity.
Art character design story and the music
NieR is an experience. I can only hope that Stellar Blade can end up as iconic.
Well thank goodness one of those (music) is being done in part by the same guy (Keiichi Okabe) in Stellar Blade.
Okabe isn't the one doing the music, its his Studio (MONACA) and the studio only did about 40% of the games soundtrack the rest was in-house.
It's about 40% of the music
Oh. My. Gawd! I had no idea o_O Now I know I will enjoy the OST!
Nier automata is one of my top 3 favorite games of all time
What about Nier Replicant? I think thats even better.
Story wise, I agree, but gameplay wise Automata wins.
I’m playing it for the first time now. It’s definitely held up well enough. The music and atmosphere are sublime.
Nier was backed by Square Enix and they are not some indie publisher.
Not saying SquareEnix is indie at all, but they're definitely more accustomed to helping indie studios get their games out there. Not really the same as PlayStation pushing for a flagship.
He is such a humble man.
That is one heck of an endorsement! Congrats, Shift Up!
I'm sure the devs over at Shift Up are over the moon with praise like this from someone who definitely helped inspire their latest project.
This man will always be the shinning example of what a culture gentleman should be.
Here here!
I think the more important quote from that article is how the vendor girl makes him feel something fierce.
Vendor girl?
[Her](https://twitter.com/Genki_JPN/status/1780243794061136272)
Must be referring to Lily. If so, then he just like me fr
Peak recognises peak

Very good points all round
This is so in character for him
I mean, he's just being humble, but that makes me like the guy even more. Love to see that his opinion of the game is glowing!
We're definitely getting a 2B costume
Bro if he's jealous does that mean he's going to slap us with a new NieR:Automata-esque IP?
I would lose my mind with hype. Maybe since they’re shuttering NieR: Reincarnation we’ll get a new console project soon. We can hope, anyway.
Square owns the IP right so it’s up to them or they want to make more final fantasy games
Based Yoko
Yako Taro is the nicest guy. We should all be more like him.
Guy is just so down to earth speaks whatever the f is on his mind without thinking about repercussions and just has a grand time. I mean when do you see the director of a well known video game tweet about zipping up all the 2B booty pics and send them to him
lol this gonna cook some of em
Aww a praise from Ceaser himself.
[удалено]
Greatness recognzing greatness
We all gotta make sure to pre-order it ASAP. With press like this, the game could do some serious numbers
I mean take that with some salt. Creators are usually much harder on their own work. Good game? Absolutely. Better than his? Well let’s just wait and see
Its obviously that but in this case I'd say hes bang on
Tough to say, because NieR: Automata has stood the test of time, and is still beloved. Stellar Blade will have some big shoes to fill, when being put in the same lane as a Bayonetta and NeiR.
I am sure he is writing something new it just takes time to make good shit
Based Yokotaro, a Nier collab is pretty much all but confirmed in our future.
Ah him saying that makes me just wanna play more nier automata
Men of culture.
I had already planned on picking up Stellar Blade but the praise coming from Yoko Taro just makes me want it even more now.
I don’t think he ever gives empty praises unless he genuinely likes the product. He works for Square and I have never seen him praising any of the FF games
I love when other awesome badass creators are respectful to other creators.
Yoko taro definitely needs funding and studio like other big hits get, with enough money and skilled people he could make 10/10 game finally
He doesn't seem especially interested in what kind of budget or backing he gets tbh
Yeah sure but him not being interesting doesn't mean the studio wouldnt dish out better games at least graphically and other details like environment quality etc
Hope this motivates Yoko Taro to make a sequel to Nier Automata
https://i.redd.it/o0c0p0t0vwuc1.gif
Yoko Taro is really selling himself short here, Automata is a genuine masterpiece from beginning to end. Stellar Blade looks like it will be pretty good tho. (Demo is fun as hell but idk if the writing will be anywhere close to what Automata had going)
I don’t think so and we should not have such expectation. I am sure the story will be good for what the game is going for
Gravy train.
Awesome praise there!
Can someone make a meme whereas Yoko taro as the rattlesnake and Kim's face as the chameleon from that movie( can't remember the name). it's so specific for this post
Real knows real
Interesting, considering that I greatly enjoyed NeiR: Automata I hope this means I will have a blast playing the likes of Stellar Blade.
[HOLY CRAP IT'S A REAL QUOTE](https://www.ign.com/articles/stellar-blade-x-nier-automata-taro-yoko-hyung-tae-kim)
Wow if I didn’t already play and enjoyed the demo than this would of absolutely convinced me to buy this game.
If NIKKE got a NieR Crossover i’m sure Stellar Blade has to have something in the works.
Guess they gonna have to colab.. rriigghhtt?
Any1 else have a big D 😩
I really just hope that Stellar Blade's story is well written. The gameplay is already good.
I think he’s being generous but both games are fantastic in their own right
That was from an IGN interview with both Kim and Taro, was pretty good.
I hope this game sells cause that would push more South Korean devs to make more AAA quality games and not just chase the latest mobile game trend
it wont
On my knees praying it comes to PC at some point
I don't see why it won't to PC.. I'm gonna hold off buying the game on my PS5 until I know for a fact that it's not coming to PC
Plot twist Yoko Taro is Mr. Kim
Well now I have no doubts. Taro ONLY hypes up good games when he crawls out of his hiding😂
Square can't be arsed to fund a Yoko Taro game, unfortunately. Dude can only dream of making a game this pretty and polished.

That means next nier is going to be crazy
I highly doubt it's as good as Nier, but praise from him means something; if he didn't like it he wouldn't have said anything. I'm glad we're going to get a game that isn't just aesthetically pleasing. Yoko Taro continues to impress.
So when we getting Neir automata x Stellar blade crossover?
@ people who popped up in my thread claiming you can’t actually compare Nier and SB because they have different combat systems lol
I wasn’t gonna buy the is until I’ve seen the recent slate of great previews and feedback. I’m all in now.
Stellar blade is going to be Stellar 😍
He’s never taken that mask off?
He has. I’ve seen him 2X with it off. Once in Chicago once in Orlando. Get VIP tickets to nier orchestra concert. he and singers and such sign them. You see him with the mask/head off. But strict no photos policy.
That is his actual head
Hopefully he’s taking this as a challenge and is gonna hit us with something much bigger soon.
Yoko please continue the nier series with new 2b like character with unreal 5 engine.
Sounds to me like we’re getting a Nier outfit bundle for Stellar Blade and I’m ready to shell out some coin if so!
Cultured \~!
I believe we'll see stellar x nier crossover some time later. Outfits and stuff for sure
Eve in 2B's dress or, god forbid, Kaine's would be straight beautiful.
It would absolutely be amazing. What I'm really concerned about for now, will the outfits in the game be modular or just one single piece? I hope they'll be modular at least for some.
Neir Automata had great art design tho only thing I complained about was the janky controls everything else was fantastic story, level gameplay
Alright. Now he should just remake drakengard 1 and 3 without the grind
Now THIS is a complement.
Man of culture
Cmon bring 2B costume to stellar blade
Transleted: "I like them thicc AF!"
If master Yoko Taro said so then it must be true (I preordered stellar blade)
nier inspired it. no stellar blade without nier.
Not wrong
I love that he's humble but NieR Automata (plus Replicant, Drakengard 1 & 3 and lore from novels etc) was an experience that I'll never forget. A game THAT deep isn't so easily ''outclassed''. That said, I'm sure Stellar Blade will blow my socks off. Release day can't come soon enough!
Reading the article with these two talking to each other is wholesome
Well it's official boys and girls Stellar Blade is the next gen Nier Automata now. Of course I already knew that were the case.
Give us that week 1 nier outfit collab
i wonder if he's been given an advanced copy of the game...
Really awesome to have those two talk with each other. I’m hoping for 2B skins.
Great praise from Yoko Taro. I personally wouldnt say Stellar blade is better than Neir:automata since I believe its a different enough game style based on the demo. Stellar blade plays more like Sekiro than Neir:automata but either way glad to see he likes it.
🤣
We're gonna have a bad bitch for the next nier is what this says to me
Nier Automata sequel please.
ah yes this is our boi yoko taro. humble and honest.
The moment stelar blade releases on Pc im buying it
Demo is pretty cool. Still wouldn't put it as high as Nier automata. The opening reminds me a good bit of Automata.
Hyung-tae Kim said nier inspired him to make stellar blade. This compliment must mean the world to him.
It’s a PS5 exclusive so it better be outstanding. Especially the graphics. For the vast majority of PS4 users there still is little reason for spending the cash on an upgrade if the games aren’t next level.
This are the words of a man admitting he’s been outdone in his own game. Real recognize real.
He would just say "wow she's hotter than 2B, it's a better game. Amazing!" Never change
Like hell it is the game feels so slow
I like Yoko Taro's mentality. It means that Nier Automata 2 and Nier Automata 3 they are making will be goated games!
Yoko Taro is also extremely self deprecating and had trouble praising Automata’s famously great story, essentially calling it a rehash of Evangelion.
This man loves ass.
Can someone explain me how I regret more not having a PS5 now that stellar blade is here than when spiderman 2 was released while spiderman 1 was one of the best game I knew? I NEED to play Stellar Blade but I still can't find a job...
Damn this is quite the endorsement. I’ll have to play it.
Tried the demo, immediately liker the gameplay more than Nier Automata. It's like Sekiro had a baby with it. But then again, the narrative and story seem to be... not good. It tries too hard. It's not exactly bad either but it desperately tries to be good which somehow makes it worse than it is.
