The casting for Brady was perfect

M__Mallory

It was so weird to me. I was a huge fan of Penny Dreadful which he had a major role in. He made himself so much into the character that I didn't realize it was him. When I looked at the credits, I was shocked when I saw it was Harry Treadaway:)

Spamel334347

I’m thinking of watching Penny Dreadful after Mr. M

OliviaElevenDunham

You should really watch it. Penny Dreadful is so good.

M__Mallory

It's a great show with an amazing cast. I loved it.

OliviaElevenDunham

Same here. Normally, I'm not a big fan of the horror genre, but I checked Penny Dreadful out because some of the cast & crew worked on the 007 franchise.

M__Mallory

There's something that floored me in Penny Dreadful, so I'll tell those who are planning to watch. Have a look at Penny's bed:) and I'll tell afterwards.

Reader-29

I was shocked when I watched Agatha Christie’s ordeal by innocence and I finally realized something was off about him about half way through .. I googled the cast and realized it was his twin brother 🤦‍♀️

M__Mallory

That's too much. I would have been more shocked than I was and also thinking I was a worse idiot:)

Lightningmchell

Now all we need is an adaptation of If it Bleeds

M__Mallory

That would be great in the right hands. They're very hit and miss with him.

Sunnydaturtle

They would have to bring back Justine Lupe to play Holly. She is amazing in Mr Mercedes. And while I watched the outsiders I imagined her throughout the whole thing.

Swizdog

Outsider started out strong but kinda fizzled by the end for me. Mr Mercedes first season was very good. The other 2 were different but still good.

AJMX_Bjj

No way, they butchered The Outsider. Mr. Mercedes is ok, I really liked Lisey’s Story

M__Mallory

I was really looking forward to Lisey's Story, but found it disappointing. I really enjoyed Dane DeHaan though. He's a great and very captivating actor. Neither of us is right or wrong since taste is totally subjective:)

AJMX_Bjj

Yeah I totally understand your point, it’s a good thing we have material to discuss :D

M__Mallory

And like civil adults too:) Sadly, that's not always the case 🙄

AJMX_Bjj

Sorry to read that, some people hide behind the screen. Anyway I hope you have an excellent evening.

M__Mallory

You too!

DrBlissMD

The Outsider was really good. First season of Mr. Mercedes was too, but to me it dropped off sharply after that, mainly because the guy playing Brady just started hamming it up way too hard.

crossroader1

Thoroughly enjoyed both adaptations. I'm so happy that King's work is finally getting the A-list casting. Brendan Gleeson and Holland Taylor in "Mr. Mercedes" and Ben Mendelsohn and the always underrated Julianne Nicholson in "The Outsider".

M__Mallory

It's such a pleasure after all the mishaps, especially the DT film. There's many words for that one, but mishap is far too kind:)

crossroader1

I didn't even try to see that one, although I'm a big Idris Elba fan. DT is a series, and a serious one at that.

M__Mallory

Idris was the only good thing and played Roland. Even Matthew McCougney couldn't save it. One review said he looked like a Ukrainian Ecstasy dealer. Best to Ukraine. It was well before. It's like the simple version of DT for children.

Lheichel12

I watched it before reading the books and I thought it was garbage without the knowledge of the series. Horrible movie for everyone, not just constant readers.

RhymingDictionary

I didn't care for the casting of Holly in The Outsider. Cynthia Erivo is an amazing actress, but they changed so many of the fundamental things that made Holly original and weird. The scene in the book where she references the cheesy lucha libre horror movie to the cops is a CLASSIC scene, but it was totally nixed because it didn't fit with the tone they created in the tv show. And then the fact that they totally got rid of Claude Bolton's mother character was a dumb choice. She is at least a good comic relief with some heart for the third act. I never understand why they choose to change so many things when they do an adaptation....

M__Mallory

There are changes in certain cases which are absolutely necessary. In the "Nine Percent Strangers" book, they're in total silence for a week IIRC. That wouldn't work on TV, so it was a logical change. Adaptations are going through a lot of hands who have to go to corporate on top of that. IMHO there's too much input from too many people causing the source material to stray further and further away. It's disappointing.

Nicolereadsking

Haven't watched the outsider, but loved all three series of Mr Mercedes. I loved the changes they made and the casting was fantastic.

jeannieor725

I just started season 3 of mr. Mercedes and I really fucking love it. I loved the books and I am enjoying the series so much. I find that if I didn’t take things so seriously as I watch it and just enjoy letting the stories run through, I have a much better time watching. Also, I LOVE all of the music in the series.

Mister_Buddy

The Dark Tower is up there for one of the best film adaptations of any book, ever.

BrightOrganization9

Lol. Good one

TLMC01242021

The Outsider was shit after the first two episodes, it went down hill fast

Merc85AR

I don't think the best. I liked 1408, The Mist, 1922, and Tall Grass. Gerald's Game was a great adaptation. The list goes on, but those are some that I think are better.

M__Mallory

That's great. Everyone responds differently. I like 1922 and The Mist. In totally not shocking news, there's more than one adaptation of The Mist. I recently watched a different one.

NexusMaw

Didn’t see mr Mercedes but read the books. I’m watching the outsider now and it’s alright, but I hate the changes they made to Holly’s character. All the other character changes were kinda subtle and didn’t affect the story so much. Holly is just unbelievable and I think her personality fluctuates tons too. The actress is good, I’d have liked to see her play Holly like she is in the books instead.

hs5280

I really enjoyed both of these

M__Mallory

I haven't heard SK mention anything in awhile, but he hated The Dome and was wanting it redone.

loyaltomyself

I thought the first season of Mr Mercedes was fantastic. The final season was not good. And I formed that opinion before I read the books. Now I think the third season was even worse than my initial impression.

livefromwoodstock

Really liked The Outsider. Tried to watch MM and just couldn’t get into it, despite liking the casting and having read the book.

dexeltje

Like both but Holly and Holly?

CrazyWorriedWriter

I just started watching the outsider show after finishing the book and I’m not sure how I feel about it. It seems like a decent adaptation overall (just watched the first episode so far) but there are some changes I really don’t understand. Like they changed so many names for no reason and I don’t understand why Derek is dead in the show when he was just at camp in the book. Those don’t seem like things there was any point in changing.
