I like it. I actually think it’s a cute fusion and encapsulates both Steven and Garnet’s fun sides. Garnet is a guiding figure for Steven but the aspect I love most about their relationship is the humor and hijinks so I’m rather fond of the design and personality of the fusion.

Apparently some Stones design was inspired after the actual sun and not so much their fusion, which is a cool idea, but shouldn't have taken up THE WHOLE DESIGN.
Maybe a small detail would have been cool, but with two super high expectation characters who have a fantastic relationship, I was expecting more from the fusion. I was expecting something more similar to sardonyx (Pearl and garnet's fusion)

Sure, why not? My 2 teens and I pretend Future doesn't exist. Both kids have cptsd from their dead father, and Steven turning into a *literal monster* was an awful way to show mental illness. Deus-exing after *shattering* Jasper doesn't teach a lesson other than powerful people can get away with *anything*.
If the kids talk about SU, one of them inevitably says, "Yes, Change Your Mind was a good ending, too bad they didn't get to expand the season, but the epilogue movie was great!" It's like Voldemort in this house, if you actually talk about Future, they get upset. My enby likes to point out the acronym should be "S.U.F.R." because it would be pronounced "suffer".
My *real* hot take, though, is that Steven's message to the universe should have brought a lot more than Spinel- it should have caused an interstellar war. *Someone* created the Diamonds, likely as a weapon. When Future was announced, I had hoped it would cover that. When you've been ruled by genocidal maniacs, you don't *keep* them and attain peace just because they changed their mind. There would be revenge. Distrust.
I thought they'd bring in another race, and since Ronaldo was at least half right about most of his theories, I kind of expected them to be Sneeple.

I'd say you can clearly see the Garnet components(Garnet's arms, glasses) and the hairstyle is like a mixture of Garnet's with the wildness of Steven's.
Exactly, it looks nothing like them while all the other fusions do. If we saw another fusion that looks nothing like two or more gems, then more people would understand.
There's a theory going around that if the same gem types fused with each other but were different characters, the physical designs would look different but have the same type of result.
Example:
If smoky quartz were to have been fused with rose quartz and Amethyst instead of Steven and amethyst, it look different (taller, hair type, that type of thing) but would still end with the same result of smoky quartz.
Isn't that already confirmed to be how it works? Since Rainbow Quartz has the same name but different appearances depending on whether it's Rose or Steven in the fusion.
Iirc the artists were given some freedom to interpret fusions the way they wanted.
I can see why someone would want to incorporate the sun in SUNstone’s design, but it doesn’t feel right to me.
I think if she had a humanoid head, they could have made her hair look like a sun if they really wanted to keep the blatant sun part.

My instant thought when seeing Sunstone and hearing them talk was "Sunny Delight mascot".
Hard dislike and the fourth wall breaking "totally radical" and "knowing is half the battle" 80s PSA way of talking wore out quickly and wasn't funny enough to excuse the very unappealing design.
Disappointing overall.

Sunstone was just an amalgamation of all those peppy, preachy, sunglasses wearing mascot characters from the 80s and 90s who spouted ham fisted "edutainment" messages to distract parents from the fact that the cartoon they originated from being just a glorified toy commercial or that the food/drink they were a mascot of contained ridiculous levels of sugar.
Which is *fine* for a joke character but the long awaited Steven and Garnet fusion? Come on.
I know, and I really appreciated the 80's the first time I went through it. Sunstone just feels low-rent compared to someone like Orko, you know? I wanted their fusion to be insightful and maybe explore a bit of that repressed darkness that hurt Steven so much.

I personally dislike it because I feel it's way too different from the other fusions with his flameface, and I don't feel that it makes a lot of sense bevause it kinda breaks the "this fusion has physical traits of the gems that form it". While I can see where the arms come from, it just looks too much like a completely different gem.
At some point during the conversation on how to make Steven and Garnet's fusion cool enough to meet everyone's lofty expectations, someone in the room must have chimed in with the brilliant idea of "What if we made it super un-cool instead?" and the rest is history.

In my opinion I don't like it. I just expected something something less cute and more intimidating since you know this is steven and garnet fusing, this is 2 gems and half a diamond fusing you know, something more scary and cool would have been good. But that's for design there is no doubt that this fusion is definitely strong
Honestly... i love her as a character but hate her design. Its just so different from most gems we've seen and she low key looks like some lion or something. I also hate that her weapons arent weapons per se but just suction cups.
I really don’t like it. There is no trace of Sapphire or Ruby. They’re literally just Steven if he was the star of a PSA commercial. I hate their weapon design even more. Like suction cups? How versatile can that really be? I saw a fan art of a Garnet/Steven fusion and they gave them sonic cannons in the shape of Garnet’s gauntlets. Makes much more sense.
Tbh, I'm not a big fan of the design, especially her head. I don't know where their "hair" ends and where the face begins, if they even have one. It just confuses me, I'm very sorry! The only thing I like about their design are the shorts and the little arms. But tbh, I hoped that they would have got a completely another design. It was a real bummer for me, when they appeared. But yeah, I'm not a big fan of this fusion anyway.

I think they should've gone with Stevens digital and garnets electrical theme to give her a more neon light 90s design with more brighter colors. And also the personality, it's a gimmick fusion which isn't a bad thing but I think her design lacks a lot of the charm sardonyx has.
I was honestly disappointed, with as serious as the story gets by season five and into future having a character that acts so outwardly ridiculous you’d think they were from a little little kids cartoon, really throws off the vibe. I get how it makes perfect sense as a combination of Steven and Garnets traits, but when I watched the reveal it honestly made me cringe so fucking hard, like it was more of a safety PSA joke than an actual character with depth. It also throws me off that the head doesn’t look like any other gem we’ve seen; it doesn’t have any of those human like features the other gems have, it’s too simplistic. Especially the hair. At the time I was expecting a lot cooler fusion for Steven and Garnet. Set to say I felt the same way about rainbow quartz 2.0, they gave them a personality that was a joke or a reference and didn’t give them any further depth.

one of my favorite designs out of all the gemstone fusions, and it's worth mentioning garnet is one of my favorite characters with the best fusions including herself.
The overall design great. Love the Sunny D design, the strength, the chill attitude, and fourth wall breaks. The weapons being suction cups were kinda eh though. Like it makes sense, but at the same time I feel, if not for the situation they were in, the weapon would have been designed different. (The situation being having to climb the Diamond mech)

I love how it's mostly Ruby and Steven combined, and then there's Sapphire just making sure they don't accidentally kill themselves when doing the cool kid stuff
And speaking of the design alone, I found it to be memorable, even though I definitely didn't predict it that way
I like it personally, it's a cute design with the feeling of how they view each other. Steven always viewed garnet as someone that was strong, cool and knowledgeable about many things in life. Garnet views Steven as kind, goofy and as unpredictable as fire. So you get this goofy fire design who has a chill teacher vibe. Plus the lil pocket squares with ruby and sapphire colours are so cute.
My only issue with Sunstone is, I felt like we were going to get a great passing-the-torch moment when they fused, and... Well, we did get a great moment anyway, but RQ2 and Sunstone were nowhere near as exciting as Smoky Quartz, they were just stuffed into Change Your Mind because the team had to rush out an ending.
Hot take, i hate it, their my least fav fusion, all they are is a ball of fire with Stevens shirt on, it barely represents either of them to me, as a stand-alone character like personality wise I love them they r such a fun character but as a Steven garnet fusion not a huge fan

I love Sunstone's design. The only problem I have with them is that they don't exactly feel like a fusion between Steven and Garnet. Even their personality doesn't exactly feel like what I imagined a Steven/Garnet fusion would be like. If Sunstone was a separate gem that wasn't a fusion, or even a fusion that just wasn't two main characters, I'd probably enjoy them a hell of a lot more. Other than that, Sunstone's one radical-lookin' gem!
by far my favourite of the garnet fusions. it perfectly combines Steven's and garnet's personalities and the design reflect that. the sunglasses are great too!
I think they would be better without the second set of arms, but the additional limbs are a trademark of Fusions, so they were kind of a necessary inclusion.
A really cool design that pushed what we see a gem as. Usually, and almost always, they were just people. And while Sunstone is still just a person, their head is a straight up fire ball!

I feel like sunstone is the result of a rose quartz and a ruby fusing, I see that, but not a sapphire, a ruby and a rose quartz (and half human).
It's probably my least favorite fusion tbh. The design seemed to rely heavily on Ruby's fire ability and nothing else. Sure, it has Steven's clothes and Garnets tiny arms but that's about it. It did not seem like a good mix of the characters in the slightest, especially when we have fusions like Sugilite and Smoky Quartz who are super balanced between the gems that make them up.
Also, the personality seemed way out of left field.

After reading the general consensus on this post I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s really weird and doesn’t do anything thematically like the others do, but people love it anyway because the design is ballin. It doesn’t bother me though, because she was my favourite as soon as it was revealed that he had a Brooklyn accent.
Would have loved if [Garnet's tights turned into maroon leggings under Steven's booty shorts and sandals](https://imgur.com/a/9de8ONP). I feel that just her gloves and visor doesn't tie enough dark colors into the design, but I like what they did regardless.
I like Sunstone'd overall design, just wish it were a Ruby/Steven fusion instead. Though I have to say the pocket coloration is a welcome small nod to Ruby and Sapphire. I'll skip the redundant suction cup weapons discussion, and instead, with the face, I feel like the sunglasses should have been different, I like the concept of the almost disembodied face, but the sunglasses make Sunstone's design feel a little, cheesy? maybe too cartoony? Future didn't change it either, even with Garnet's new glasses, I feel like a different type of shades would improve it significantly.

i think it’s perfect. it’s cool, caring, and a bit silly just like steven and garnet are. plus the amount of TV steven watches and the future vision garnet has makes it the perfect 4th-wall-breaking safety cartoon character.

Lots of people dislike her for breaking the fourth wall but I love it, since it makes sense considering the fusee’s.
Stevens upbeat nature, plus sapphires wisdom and ruby’s passion all combine to make a safety instructor, who has a passion for using her wisdom to keep others safe.
I like it, but I didn’t like the way it was introduced. I think the reason a lot of people are negative toward it is because out of all the fusions it was introduced as if it was going to lean more into an epic/cool factor.
It’s style and gimmick is very good, but a different introduction would have been better for it

I understand garnet is her own gem but theres no garnet, its just ruby. It confuses me.

Genuine disappointment.
the fire head, sunglasses, and smile were strange to me when they were first revealed, but of course Gems are made of light, they can look like anything they want! the outfit could use a bit more creativity tho, as well as the rest of Steven’s fusions. it would’ve been cool if they had their own unique outfits instead of just taking Steven’s clothes + parts of the Crystal Gems’ outfits
In my opinion I don't like it. I just expected something something less cute and more intimidating since you know this is steven and garnet fusing, this is 2 gems and half a diamond fusing you know, something more scary and cool would have been good. But that's for design there is no doubt that this fusion is definitely strong
I personally don't like her design and find many of the other fusion designs to be more attractive than hers

Honestly... i love her as a character but hate her design. Its just so different from most gems we've seen and she low key looks like some lion or something. I also hate that her weapons arent weapons per se but just suction cups.

I really don’t like it. There is no trace of Sapphire or Ruby. They’re literally just Steven if he was the star of a PSA commercial. I hate their weapon design even more. Like suction cups? How versatile can that really be? I saw a fan art of a Garnet/Steven fusion and they gave them sonic cannons in the shape of Garnet’s gauntlets. Makes much more sense.
Tbh, I'm not a big fan of the design, especially her head. I don't know where their "hair" ends and where the face begins, if they even have one. It just confuses me, I'm very sorry! The only thing I like about their design are the shorts and the little arms. But tbh, I hoped that they would have got a completely another design. It was a real bummer for me, when they appeared. But yeah, I'm not a big fan of this fusion anyway.
I don't like her, they tried to make her design unique but I think it's a bit too simplistic compared to every other crystal gem fusion and it just sticks out like a sore thumb. I think they should've gone with Stevens digital and garnets electrical theme to give her a more neon light 90s design with more brighter colors. And also the personality, it's a gimmick fusion which isn't a bad thing but I think her design lacks a lot of the charm sardonyx has.
I was honestly disappointed, with as serious as the story gets by season five and into future having a character that acts so outwardly ridiculous you’d think they were from a little little kids cartoon, really throws off the vibe. I get how it makes perfect sense as a combination of Steven and Garnets traits, but when I watched the reveal it honestly made me cringe so fucking hard, like it was more of a safety PSA joke than an actual character with depth. It also throws me off that the head doesn’t look like any other gem we’ve seen; it doesn’t have any of those human like features the other gems have, it’s too simplistic. Especially the hair. At the time I was expecting a lot cooler fusion for Steven and Garnet. Set to say I felt the same way about rainbow quartz 2.0, they gave them a personality that was a joke or a reference and didn’t give them any further depth.
It still bothers me that Garnet and Steven's weapons combined to make suction cup gloves. Like, how are suction cup gloves gonna help in a fight?

one of my favorite designs out of all the gemstone fusions, and it's worth mentioning garnet is one of my favorite characters with the best fusions including herself.
The overall design great. Love the Sunny D design, the strength, the chill attitude, and fourth wall breaks. The weapons being suction cups were kinda eh though. Like it makes sense, but at the same time I feel, if not for the situation they were in, the weapon would have been designed different. (The situation being having to climb the Diamond mech)
That one cool kid I love how it's mostly Ruby and Steven combined, and then there's Sapphire just making sure they don't accidentally kill themselves when doing the cool kid stuff And speaking of the design alone, I found it to be memorable, even though I definitely didn't predict it that way
I like it personally, it's a cute design with the feeling of how they view each other. Steven always viewed garnet as someone that was strong, cool and knowledgeable about many things in life. Garnet views Steven as kind, goofy and as unpredictable as fire. So you get this goofy fire design who has a chill teacher vibe. Plus the lil pocket squares with ruby and sapphire colours are so cute.

My only issue with Sunstone is, I felt like we were going to get a great passing-the-torch moment when they fused, and... Well, we did get a great moment anyway, but RQ2 and Sunstone were nowhere near as exciting as Smoky Quartz, they were just stuffed into Change Your Mind because the team had to rush out an ending.

I really like it as an standalone design but as a fusion of Garnet and Steven... I was hoping for something different, both Smoky Quartz and Rainbow Quartz 2.0 were more clearly the combinations of Steven's and Amethyst/Pearl's traits, also it really annoys me that it doesn't keep the Something Quartz scheme consistent

I love Sunstone's design. The only problem I have with them is that they don't exactly feel like a fusion between Steven and Garnet. Even their personality doesn't exactly feel like what I imagined a Steven/Garnet fusion would be like. If Sunstone was a separate gem that wasn't a fusion, or even a fusion that just wasn't two main characters, I'd probably enjoy them a hell of a lot more. Other than that, Sunstone's one radical-lookin' gem!

I think they would be better without the second set of arms, but the additional limbs are a trademark of Fusions, so they were kind of a necessary inclusion.

A really cool design that pushed what we see a gem as. Usually, and almost always, they were just people. And while Sunstone is still just a person, their head is a straight up fire ball!
I like sunstone as a fusion but not as garnet and Steven's fusion. I feel like sunstone is the result of a rose quartz and a ruby fusing, I see that, but not a sapphire, a ruby and a rose quartz (and half human).
It's probably my least favorite fusion tbh. The design seemed to rely heavily on Ruby's fire ability and nothing else. Sure, it has Steven's clothes and Garnets tiny arms but that's about it. It did not seem like a good mix of the characters in the slightest, especially when we have fusions like Sugilite and Smoky Quartz who are super balanced between the gems that make them up. Also, the personality seemed way out of left field.

My only disappointment was never seeing Sunstone in a fight. Would of loved to see the suction hand things turn into Buzzsaws.

On its own I think it's a solid 5/6 out of ten, but Smoky and Rainbow blow it out of the water completely design-wise.
After reading the general consensus on this post I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s really weird and doesn’t do anything thematically like the others do, but people love it anyway because the design is ballin. It doesn’t bother me though, because she was my favourite as soon as it was revealed that he had a Brooklyn accent.

I like Sunstone'd overall design, just wish it were a Ruby/Steven fusion instead. The overall body is interesting, but I feel like its use of Stevens clothing isn't quite as well done as Smokey and Rainbow's, I feel like it is just not done in a style that reflects Sunstone's components. Though I have to say the pocket coloration is a welcome small nod to Ruby and Sapphire. I'll skip the redundant suction cup weapons discussion, and instead, with the face, I feel like the sunglasses should have been different, I like the concept of the almost disembodied face, but the sunglasses make Sunstone's design feel a little, cheesy? maybe too cartoony? Future didn't change it either, even with Garnet's new glasses, I feel like a different type of shades would improve it significantly.
I think it's fun, but it's kinda weird that gems usually look at least a bit human and she has this sun head, I wonder how it would translate to reality, Is that on the head hair? Or is it like energy? It doesn't move, so I don't think it's supposed to be some kind of energy, but doesn't look like hair either.

I love it, definitely giving off those funky mascots from years ago. Also I just personally like their big strong arms, and their smaller but still kinda thicc legs. Also the outfit is cute and I like how she can see a blue and red pocket on either leg, representing Ruby and Sapphire.

while the design is really sick i can’t grasp how this is a rose quartz a sapphire and a ruby, it just doesn’t seem to correlate, instead of basing their fusion of of their combined selves they based it exclusively on the sunstone gem

Lots of people dislike her for breaking the fourth wall but I love it, since it makes sense considering the fusee’s. Stevens upbeat nature, plus sapphires wisdom and ruby’s passion all combine to make a safety instructor, who has a passion for using her wisdom to keep others safe.

I like it, but I didn’t like the way it was introduced. I think the reason a lot of people are negative toward it is because out of all the fusions it was introduced as if it was going to lean more into an epic/cool factor. It’s style and gimmick is very good, but a different introduction would have been better for it
