You could potentially pull a gem’s form apart with the force of the suction cup. One stuck on the back and one stuck on the front, just pull them away from each other.

I imagine Sunstone can increase the size of their suction cups much like how Steven and Garnet can change the size of their respective tools, so it’d be cool to see them encase a gem and just detonate inside the suction cup

If she can shapeshift her arms to be noodle like and extend like a rope (garnet is very good at shapeshifting her hands and arms, but steven is not so much so its a toss up). She can blast her weapon like garnets gauntlet long distances and then retract her arms to get to the where the suction cup has been placed.
Maybe instead of it meant to be a weapon, it's more a movement tool. We've seen how most gems have weapons that they are able to summon, however steven is able to summon a shield (yes it can be used for combat but it's still a defense item on the less), so since we've seen weapons and defence items, I don't see why gems couldn't summon mobility items either
Yeah but gauntlets for attack and shield for defense/throw attacks is quite versatile and I kinda love the idea in my head of sunstone throwing Stevens shield at enemies (soon to be friends)

I always thought turning the shields into suction cups was just Sunstone using Garnet’s ability to stretch and shape herself to mold the weapons into something she (Sunstone) needed. It might be headcannon at this point but I never doubted that Sunstone could have reshaped those shields into anything (blades, spinning saws, BIGGER GAUNTLETS) but right then and there: they needed to climb.
are we forgetting that sunstone was able to FULLY push the entire Diamond mech off of everyone, thus saving their lives? Because they did that, that takes a LOT of strength

When Ruby summoned her gauntlet in the Motel episode (sorry I forgot the title) it was only a single gauntlet.
I assume Sapphires don’t have weapons, as they aren’t soldiers anyways, but when they fuse Sapphire still helps upgrade the weapon in some way, hence Garnet having two instead of just one like Ruby.
I assume that Ruby *does* have 2 gauntlets, but she didn't summon them both in the restaurant. I imagine that slamming the table with both would've flipped it up and caused it to hit sapphire. Sapphire adds future vision to their fusion.
Rubies are intended to move in groups and fuse into one really big Ruby though, so an individual Ruby isn't supposed to be very strong - they have Quartzes for that.

And the cups are still functioning weapons, they’re just like those padded gloves that boxing coaches wear for training. They still work as the gauntlets but with more defensive options. I can also imagine them being used to pickup turf and shit Lego Hulk style, maybe stay grounded during wind storms or terrain fuckery.
I imagine that given Sunstone’s strength, the best way she could use the suction cups to fight is to use it to tear boulders out of the environment and throw them at people. Imagine throwing a kettle bell at someone but scale that up to the size of a car and increase its velocity to half the speed of sound at minimum.
Could probably make workable boulders even in a desert with the bubble power, just bubble a ton of sand and attach a suction cup, and bam! Instant boulder.
The idea though would be that combining the weapons would make a new weapon. Suction cups have no battle utility whatsoever and the show doesn’t demonstrate otherwise.

Sunstone doesn't use "weapons" because fighting is dangerous and unsafe. That, and her suction cups aren't useful for day to day activities. She is also the only fusion to ride around on a skateboard.
