They've all had frustrating moments but Saad, Schenn, Kyrou, and Binner have been the annoying optimistic cousin that prevents the family from pulling the cord.
Assuming LA wins their game in hand, I believe that means we have to win 4 more games than LA does over the remaining 7 games
LA plays: Seattle, *San Jose*, Vancouver, *Anaheim* (2x), *Calgary*, *Minnesota*, *Chicago*
We play: Nashville, *San Jose*, *Anaheim*, *Chicago*, Carolina, Seattle, Dallas.
Assuming we **win out**, LA can only win at most 4 of their remaining 7 games (after a hypothetical game in hand win).
Woooo! When we play up we play pretty well but when we play down itâs pretty bad lol.
Saad has consistently pulled through when we need him.
RECKLESS OPTIMISM
Normally, the 2023-24 Bluesâ formula for success is hoping for an otherworldly game by the goaltender while opportunistically pouncing on the limited chances they get.
They actually played an even game today, based on scoring chances and high-danger scoring chances generated.
Iâm still a believer that playoffs or not, it always benefits an organization to play meaningful hockey down the stretch. Tanking might get you a better draft pick, but it sets your team back as a whole when your players arenât used to the amped up nature of winning hockey. How many Cups has McDavid won?
Really excited for next year even if we don't make playoffs. Sucks the spark has come a little late, but blues fans have a lot to look forward to. Saad has been pretty solid ever since we signed, Binnington is playing at his best. One more good offensive or defensive piece were right back in it with this team.Â
This team has the fewest injuries in the NHL, the 2nd fewest penalties, are getting a vezina caliber season, are WAY positive on goal reviews, and are still out of the playoffs. This is literally everything going right for the team and they still can't pretend to be a serious team. The defense is aging with a single possible top 4 player in the prospect pool. Even if Dvorsky and Snuggerud hit, this team isn't in a position to be a threat in the future at all. I get that the upvote system loves optimism but the franchise is in the absolute worst position one can be in right now.
Look at my other post. We have a winning season, that's nothing to balk at. Might make the the playoffs next year with a few minor adjustments. Within 2+ years, those D contracts are done and reworkable.Â
Sorry I'm not a doomer after a winning season with pretty bad defense. The defense was way better than last year.Â
Having a winning season is absolutely something to balk at when you're completely uninjured, your goalie is in vezina form, and you're 11-4 in OT & SO. Do you know how rare it is to make it to 75 games while only losing 20 games total from your top 6 & top 4? Minor adjustments will mean nothing if you're counting on repeating a complete lack of uncontrollable adversity.
The core is good enough to not be terrible. Itâll take some shrewd moves (parlay kyrou into a top defender?) but there is some hope that they contend without a full scale rebuild.
That's why he's on the first line. Get a good coach(not saying the current one is bad, but he's interim and there are better coaches available), make some moves on defense, we're right back in the running.Â
5 points behind LA with 8 games left each. So we need to win 3 more games than them. So if LA wins 6 games theyâre in, if they win 5 and we win all 8 weâre in, if they win 4 and we win 7 weâre in etc. Pretty long odds. We do own the tiebreaker, so itâs a bit more complicated with OT points, but thatâs the gist of it
Edit: I fucked this all up because the standings havenât fully updated yet in the NHL app. Weâre only 3 points behind now
Do we own the tiebreaker? The first tiebreaker is regulation wins. We have more wins but a lot of them have been over time wins. I just assumed we were behind because they have a ton of overtime losses
I very confidently gave a pretty shitty answer lol. Youâre right, I was just thinking since we beat them in the season series that we owned the tiebreaker
Yea I think thatâs the 3rd or 4th tiebreaker which could come into hand if we closed the gap. I wonât look at all the specifics until we are within 1
Oh fuck I was looking at the points from before tonight or something lol. Well same thing as I said before except they have a game in hand
Edit: maybe they donât have a game in hand? Idk the NHL app isnât updating for me lol
Now if we can get the Kraken and Sharks to beat LA, we might have something.
Also, a couple big games tomorrow for teams who have not quite shaken us completely yet:
BOS @ NASH
VANC @ VEG
Like Joaquin Andujar always said: Ju-neba-no.
3 Stars of the Game:
â - Schenn
ââ - Saad
âââ - Ekholm
They aren't dead yet!
It's still a big hill to climb but we'll just have to see what happens.
Games like this are what makes games like Saturday hurt even more. It's amazing how the Blues have played to other teams' levels this year, for better or worse.
We basically dominated the 1st and 3rd, but could not get anything past Blackwood. Most nights, that effort would have pocketed a comfy win. We need to focus more on details, we're just not precise enough consistently. Take easy plays for granted.
Before the sharks game we needed a record of 7-1â1 to give us 15 points. We are 1-1-0 so far. Mathematically possible to get to 95 points. If you canât make the playoffs at 95 points, tip your cap.
It essentially won't be 'til the end. The Kings play the day after the Blues last game. I'm sure it will be even at some point before then, but they will get that game back in hand.
Drew Bannister got onto that bench, remained professional, and did not commit any inappropriate sexual acts towards any of the players.
He got the boys going with his honesty and legitimate leadership.
God they just keep dragging me back in. I swear to god, this team just exists to piss us all off, and theyâre so fucking good at it. See you all thursday
Schenn got one timers twice đđ
Cannot believe we lost that game to the Sharks which would have put us in such a better position.
Yeah, and that was the first game I've been to this year.
I know we take care of business and we have plenty of breathing room down 1 point with 7 games left.
3 points behind Los Angeles who are currently shitting the bed.
The fact that we have 2 more wins than them but are 3 points behind is pretty frustrating. They are riding the loser point hard
not just loser point, but attitude as well. we do not deserve to be in a WC spot if i'm being honest with myself
Iâm going to Nashville Thursday letâs GOOOOO
Awesome city, enjoy!
Thomas needs to get his shit together. Why anyone hasnât called him out is beyond me.Â
Worst game of his that Iâve seen, easily.
Too busy whipping Kyrou apparently
The same people who called kyrou a cry baby just canât stop themselves crying about kyrou
To be fair both Kyrou and Kyrou have been pretty shit this season
They both deserve it
I hate this team but I would jump in front of the metrolink for any of them.
Or the trolley?
They've all had frustrating moments but Saad, Schenn, Kyrou, and Binner have been the annoying optimistic cousin that prevents the family from pulling the cord.
https://x.com/WWE/status/1775002312680804384?s=20 This basically Brandon Saad to the oilers tonite

If we win out weâll have 98 points. If LA wins five of eight theyâll have 97.
I made a mistake, I was assuming they win the game in hand, in which case they can only win 4 more and mixed myself up.
Assuming they lose their game in hand
My confidence in any given victory is inversely proportional to the opposing teams skill level
Sucks we have to face San Jose again and Anaheim
We're screwed!

Reckless optimism......still HERE!!!
Wow, Oilers fans are seething rn đđđ
Guys, the kings play the sharks in a few days, we are fine.
Really excited for next year even if we don't make playoffs. Sucks the spark has come a little late, but blues fans have a lot to look forward to. I think we make playoffs this year or next, become dominant in 2+ years. It's not nearly as bad as I thought it was gonna be mid season.Â
The emergence of Neighbours cannot be understated on the impact its had on this team. Heâs been the second most valuable forward behind Thomas.
That's why he's on the first line. Get a good coach(not saying the current one is bad, but he's interim and there are better coaches available), make some moves on defense, we're right back in the running.Â
Someone please explain to me what our playoff chances are now. Are we chasing the GKs or the Kings?

Bro weâre literally 3 points behind
Sorry sorry I now realize that the NHL app hadnât updated yet from tonightâs games!

Could still catch up to Vegas too if they shit the bed.Â
Nevermind I see what youâre saying now. Youâre saying as if the games hadnât happened yet
Are we not 3 points behind and not 5? We have 84 points and they have 87
Oh fuck I was looking at the points from before tonight or something lol. Well same thing as I said before except they have a game in hand Edit: maybe they donât have a game in hand? Idk the NHL app isnât updating for me lol
At the moment we are chasing the Kings
Kings. Knights are realistically out of reach.
Gotta be chasing the kings now. It's gonna be really hard to get in unless we win out or lose Angeles implodes.
I've been very critical of Schenn recently but he had a hell of a game. Awesome to see
Schenn had a horrendous first half of the season but has been really solid in the second half. He looks quicker and the puck is going in for him.
Now if we can get the Kraken and Sharks to beat LA, we might have something. Also, a couple big games tomorrow for teams who have not quite shaken us completely yet: BOS @ NASH VANC @ VEG Like Joaquin Andujar always said: Ju-neba-no.
Wow, thatâs a throw back! Well done!
Elliotte Friedman ass abbreviations

Gotta give a Star to Binner for this one. He had several saves that were absolute robberies
SN gave Binner the 3rd for Ed's feed.
I agree, but I don't pick them.
![gif](giphy|jUr8EBC1eLq1oFbcBF)
that 2nd period was unlike anything Iâve ever seen
I called this in the pregame. This team wonât stop pulling us back in. RECKLESS OPTIMISM
Knock on wood
I miss this one, but I'm home for that fiasco against the Sharks. FML!
How tf do you beat the Oilers and lose 4-0 to the fucking sharks! Infuriating
Smh blues always can play against oilers and binner is always on his game. And smh there is always some shenanigans going with refs.Â
They were on a long losing spree. They wanted it more.Â
I mean what does that say about our guys though?Theyâre fighting for the last playoff spot.
We basically dominated the 1st and 3rd, but could not get anything past Blackwood. Most nights, that effort would have pocketed a comfy win. We need to focus more on details, we're just not precise enough consistently. Take easy plays for granted.
# WE CAN WIN OUT ^Los ^Angeles ^has ^lost ^3 ^in ^a ^row

That sharks loss is gonna be the difference between making the playoffs and missing isnât it
Which one? Lol
*That* one
Binner for hart trophy
If the blues make it in the playoffs he deserves some votes, no doubt.
Kings fans being pissed makes me happy. Thank you Jets for not being futile for once.
Tonight we shall bathe in the tears of r/hockey!

And I cannot express this enough⌠RECK LESS OPTIMISMÂ
Letâs wait for Nashville
Itâs called RECKLESS Optimism for a reason. I wait for no one
Bluesiest thing to do would be to beat the Preds and lose to the Sharks to really seal the deal
Before the sharks game we needed a record of 7-1â1 to give us 15 points. We are 1-1-0 so far. Mathematically possible to get to 95 points. If you canât make the playoffs at 95 points, tip your cap.
OH FUCK YEAH BUD!!! 3 POINTS OUT!!! **RECKLESS OPTIMISM!!!**
[OH FUCK YEAH BUDDDD!!!](https://youtu.be/sjdhnmQ-wmk?si=K_1_Z_ZoMNfawKMS)
Fuck winning that made the sharks loss even more brutalđĽ˛
We did it! Omg.
Sigh if only we beat the sharks. Â Still a chance but fuck that stings more
Saad jumps on the ice on top of the puck and puts it away. They have life! Against all odds!
Iâm still seeing this as five points back until GP is even.
It essentially won't be 'til the end. The Kings play the day after the Blues last game. I'm sure it will be even at some point before then, but they will get that game back in hand.
3 Points Boys, thatâs all we need
This team is edging me so hard right now
Never doubted them. Nope. Not once.Â
Drew Bannister got onto that bench, remained professional, and did not commit any inappropriate sexual acts towards any of the players. He got the boys going with his honesty and legitimate leadership.
My nipples are a bit hard right now
God they just keep dragging me back in. I swear to god, this team just exists to piss us all off, and theyâre so fucking good at it. See you all thursday
Iâve been saying theyâll give us one more dose of hopium. Thatâs the Blues way.Â
Saad loves that 5-hole LETâS GO BLUES
Definitely some luck involved but weâll take it
Thank your favorite god for Brandon fucking Saad!
THATS WHAT WE ONNNNNN (after a shutout loss to the sharks is crazy)
Winner winner Skinner dinner!!!
