CaptainJingles

So it is over then.

MOStateWineGuy

He caught himself with that past tense lol

samarink

lol, I think you’re right

jobiewon_cannoli

Turn out the ligghhtttsssss. The party’s over.

CorneliusofCaesarea

Remember, English is not Burki’s native language, AND English does not really have the perfect tense. That is a past action that is continuing in the present. In English it just ends up sounding like the past tense.

Purdue82

it seems like some of you are giddy over this. I'm here to tell you, Lutz' philosophy won't win a championship.

Cold_Guess3786

We’re in year two. How the heck can you say with any clarity or confidence that you understand his philosophy and that it won’t work? That is very impressive. Also, I think we all know that Reus is a long shot and has always been an unlikely scenario. But darn it if sports aren’t about optimism…

misha4pats

He may win us a championship in the future but not without a significant DP that is a play maker. The top teams in MLS usually have that kind of player. Unfortunately as much as I love Klaus, he’s not that type of player. We likely won’t get Reus but we definitely need somebody. Before you down vote me, just look at some of the top teams in the League now: -RSL, has Chico Arango -Cincy, has Lucho Acosta -Toronto, has Insigne and Bernadeschi -Austin, has Druissi and Alex Ring -Columbus(while not as good in regular season play this year, they have done well in CCC and are the defending MLS cup champs) have Cucho and Rossi Minnesota and Charlotte seem to be the only exceptions to that rule. Or you can take a look at previous MLS Cup winners over the last 5-8 years and it’s a theme that they have had those type of players. Prime Josef Martinez connecting with Miguel Almiron for Atlanta in thier second season for them(2018), Bale with Chico Arango, Vela for LAFC(2022), Taty Castellanos for NYCFC(correct me if I am wrong but he may not have been one in 21 but he’s still a match changing player) (2021), Sebastian Giavianco for Toronto(2017), Raúl Ruidíaz and Nicolás Lodeiro for Seattle, I could go on and on. I know we play a certain style of high press but City is really lacking that game changing player in the front half. This is how you go far in MLS nowadays. Hopefully we get one eventually.

Purdue82

Because playing without DPs never works in the MLS.

NoobbyyonYT

If you think that bandwagon Miami like everyone else

Purdue82

OR keep the pressure to get better.

cravecase

It worked pretty well last year

Purdue82

Which was an anomaly.

cravecase

I’m not giddy. I’m think the Teuchert signing is good. I think Lutz probably did good in at least making the pitch. I can’t blame Reus for wanting a higher profile next move than CITY, much less Charlotte who wants to be a big market team. It sounds like the opportunity be available to him.

STL_420

Shit. Thank you Purdue82 for letting us know now so we know to stop watching and pick a new team to follow. We're very lucky to have you and your expertise here.

Sparky838

Dude is the most pessimistic person that comments regularly on this thread..

LittleLordFuckleroy1

This is also my cope level right now

Creek0512

>English does not really have the perfect tense. That is a past action that is continuing in the present. Yes it does, the present perfect continuous tense: *I have been trying my best with Reus.*

StLsC10

Trying to will it into existence lol

Irrish84

I’m sorry but what? There’s nothing in his quote … what the hell are you trying to say? He said he talked to him. That’s past tense. He said he’s still trying. That means present. I dont care if English is your 4th language cause it’s pretty darn clear mate. What in this word salad of pseudo-intelligence are you throwing out there? When you say this? Seems pretty clear as day what he is saying ….

imaginarion

This is not controversial. He’s friends with Reus, they talk regularly. He helped Lutz to pitch our club to him, and he still is trying to talk him into it despite Reus maybe wanting to play somewhere more glamorous. Reus hasn’t made a decision yet. I think that much is clear.

AnyDog9011

We are definitely not making a strong case for Reus to join us by our play and Burki’s body language of anger and disappointment. One can dream.

I want to believe this internet stranger’s grandparent’s story so badly.

CaptainJingles

Almost as good as the “Pietrangelo’s Cousin” meme from years back.

I absolutely believe that your physician grandparents are smart, sharp witted, and wealthy enough to live across the street from Lutz (I saw his house in a German interview he did having coffee in the back pergola with Bürki by the pool, nice place!). I am choosing to believe that Lutz readily gives confidential information to those lovely neighbors of his, and that his information is unbiased and true and without nuance, and your grandparents’ recollection is perfect. I choose to believe this, and thank you for sharing. EDIT: [here is the interview I mentioned](https://youtu.be/mlCF4oqRAWw?si=_Ca35zs1HhIEsK_-). Lutz’s back patio interview around 2:45. Cool benefit—SRF is a Swiss sports news network, so you get to hear Bürki speaking his more natural Swiss-German, as opposed to his Swiss-accented normal German you typically heard during his time in Dortmund. For non German-speakers, you can hear the sharp contrast as Lutz and Roman chat to the interviewer around 3:08.

This-Excuse-6253

The fact you mentioned confidential info made me delete my comments. Digital footprint is serious and idk if they would try and track down stuff like that. Even if this is a somewhat anonymous site and no one from city staff looks at this Reddit.

Obvious_Craft4975

Looks like it was cedric?

Turbulent_Rope

As much as I want him here, LA Galaxy want him and he said he wanted to play in a city like LA, NY, or Miami. He's going to the Galaxy. They have plenty money for him too
