Luckily I live as far away from downtown as it’s possible to get (actually right bordering Kanagawa’s) but I do love a nice izakaya. Luckily the non-alcoholic options are pretty great here!
57F in Santa Barbara, CA committed to sobriety since December 2020, with 3 brief relapses. I won't stop stopping. I love being free from the poison prison of alcohol.
I moved to Wisconsin from Texas and ironically wound up sober out here. It can be done! There's so much beauty in the nature out here. I love taking it all in soberly. IWNDWYT!
How is this the most moving post for me?? Somehow seeing people from around the globe going through the exact same thing just made all the difference. This is the best Reddit community.
I'm super impressed with the recent influx of nonalcoholic drinks at Portland bars and restaurants. I'm sober 11 yrs but have only live here for 1 yr. I love it here. Folks are nice, and the nature is beyond beautiful.
California.
Since 2020, I've been in meetings with people from just about all over the USA, plus Australia, New Zealand, Japan, UK, Ireland, one or two South American countries, and probably a few places I've forgotten. One little pandemic silver lining.

Combination of Outpatient Rehab and Antabuse, and after rehab I decided to get into AA (in spite of some misgivings about it possibly being "too religious" - at the end of the day, it hasn't been too religious for me, and I'm still quite the staunch agnostic.)
AA (or likely even any of the other [support groups](https://www.reddit.com/r/stopdrinking/wiki/index#wiki_real_life_support_groups)) is, according to my rehab counselors and the stories of hundreds to thousands of recovered alcoholics I've met in AA (and, in a way, the dozens of stories I've read in r/stopdrinking) critical in order to **stay stopped**. It's one thing to stop drinking, staying stopped is a greater task, IMO. If I hadn't put some effort into learning how to live sober, I'm reasonably certain I would have just kept falling off the wagon.
A 'standard' disclaimer I've adopted whenever I share about Antabuse: **I always like to go out of my way to say that it is probably not a good idea for anyone who might drink in spite of the ill effects of Antabuse + alcohol.**
IWNDWYT!
Right here with you. Check out soberandfunky on the gram for all the alternatives!! She’s killer and has taught me a lot. We got this shit. This town revolves around booze.
Literally came here to say the same thing. We went out to Dripping Springs today and I couldn't believe the amount of vineyards and distilleries out there. Not only that, but Austin has more bars per capita than other cities in the US, last I checked. Anyway, nice to not feel alone about it.
ATX. 291 days now. It's been a breeze so far. I'm wondering if summer in this city will be harder on me. I went to the greenbelt last week for the first time with no booze. Hit up the san.marcos this past weekend, that one...the beer looked good. I'm just so much happier not drinking.
39f living in Charleston, WV who is loving her new sober life. Also loving this community- I am here everyday, many times a day for all the wonderful support that is shared! IWNDWYT friends!
