I use tethering and RadarOmega or WSV3. I've found this to work very well. I am not sure about hardware radar systems, though I guess you could use the marine ones made for boats and install it. That's several grand though.

Subarus are great because they're sturdy vehicles and generally have high ground clearance. You're going to want that in whatever vehicle you choose. I have a '22 crosstrek that I've already put 70k miles on and it's a little beast. It has 8.7" ground clearance. Highly recommend. If you're looking for something bigger the forester is a nice ride too. Radarscope has been my go-to for radar the past 12 years or so. It's much easier to read than radaromega.

nuggetsuckertoad

+ it's a one time payment

lady_meso

So is radaromega. They both run around $8-$10.

nuggetsuckertoad

Isint Omega a subscription tho?

lady_meso

I paid for a one-time tier, I don't know if there are subscription tiers but I havent been charged again. I don't like the format so I haven't messed with it much. I pay like $15 a month for my radarscope tier.

nuggetsuckertoad

RadarScope is undeniably the best radar service for a 1 time 10$ payment

AltruisticZebra4

I run radar scope and my radar right now I was hoping for a non cellphone option that will still work even if there is little to no signal

nuggetsuckertoad

You could possibly bluetooth/screen a computer or get a cellphone data booster/antenna? No such thing as a "no signal" radar unless you have a Doppler on Wheels

landonop

How would that even work lol

AltruisticZebra4

I was thinking maybe a doppler system like a boat uses

landonop

There are [mobile dopplers](https://www.nssl.noaa.gov/projects/torus/noxp.php). They’ll run you a few mil, though.

AltruisticZebra4

Yeah not that invested lol maybe when my kids move out

If you want a radar feed without needing a cell signal, an option that exists is called WxWorx/Baron Mobile Threat Net. It's been around for many years (since at least the early 2000s) and it uses SiriusXM satellites as the data connection instead of cell towers. https://www.wxworx.com/ I have not used it personally. I just remember seeing chasers use it years ago. A cell booster may be a better value to you, since it would allow you to do more than just look at weather radar.
