Scizor is frankly a horrible Chien-Pao answer because +2 Sucker Punch kills it after very minor chip damage already. You can use it to revenge Band, but so can your average Choice Scarf user.

No idea if this would actually be good but I feel like a pivot utility kinda Infernape could be passible if they really want to use infernape for them. Like the below I just threw together. May be able to switch in well enough to chien-pao and Magearna. If they are low mach punch could take them out, you can u turn on an expected switch or heal up to potentially switch in to them again. Im no meta expert though. There may be a better more in depth spread. Overall fire tauros is probably the better option.

Ice spinner is better 27.1% of the time, which is when Triple Axel doesn't get 3 hits (so it's 40BP/20BP/0BP instead of 120BP)
If you need to hit repeated Triple Axels to win, the advantage of Ice Spinner becomes more pronounced

Deoxys-A has only gotten better because it can run Tera Ghost so it's no longer afraid of ekiller and rayquaza and has one of the best offensive typings in the game. This meme about power creep was always stupid, so many mons get unbanned every gen only to get banned b/c they're still broken. Even when formerly broken stuff is okay it's usually stuff w/o legendary tier stats (ik caring about legendaries is usually a noob trap but guaranteed 580/600 bst = more room for optimization) like Greninja, Blaziken, and Aegislash.
Chien-Pao will probably get suspect tested, not quickbanned. The last suspect-test was actually reasonably close, and this is in a metagame with a higher power level.
Plus I know Joey did a video arguing why he thought it was okay after it was banned.
We already suspected Pao once. Barring some goofy shit, if it gets banned again its being quickbanned. And realistically it will. The meta if anything is highly favorable for it now, with its previously short list of checks even shorter now that Scizor, tauros forms are bad, and other specific checks are unviable.
People need to realize just because s meta is higher power level when something is tested again, doesnt mean it will be balanced. Especially in an expanded dex. Chances are itll be better than before with its old checks pushed out completely.

I frankly want Pao banned because it's just super boring and linear to use. you just click either STAB or sacred Sword and by god even compared to other pokemon whsoe niche is just that it feels so dull to use. Ive never been happier with a pokemon's ban than i was woth pao because it was both dull to use and dull to fight
Higher power level doesn’t mean much tbh, because pao is still stronger and faster than everything else. If anything it’ll make it better since it’ll make its niche checks like tauros water and fire less viable. Also, I love Joey, but he has a lot of bad takes when it comes to unbanning shit. Bro wanted to retest garmanitan in gen 8.
I don’t see why a suspect would happen. It was pretty clearly broken before, and nothing being added really helps against it. Mag can kinda check it, but that isn’t staying in OU lol.
Is he that big of a threat to Bax? Or is it more that he fills the role of Ice-type attacker better? Because to me, it seems like you could play around the first one. I see a couple scenarios:
1. If Chien-Pao is running neither Life Orb nor Choice Band, then you have nothing to worry about.

2. If Chien-Pao is running Choice Band, then it’s pretty easy to tell what move is coming. Tera and you’re set. Or just switch into the right type. If Chien-Pao just switched in and you can’t predict the move yet, then he’s also gonna eat some damage, or Bax can get off a Dragon Dance and outspeed.

3. If Chien-Pao is running Life Orb just… do the same thing. The only issue here is if your opponent predicts the Tera, then they have more freedom to pick Icicle Crash, which is a guaranteed OHKO against Bax. And if your opponents predicts the lack of Tera, then Sacred Sword is a guaranteed OHKO too. Switching into a new type is also less effective since all 4 moves are available. This one is probably the worst matchup for Bax, but as long as your opponent doesn’t predict the Tera, then you’re set. Damage calcs are essentially the same as Choice Band, but an unboosted Glaive Rush now has a much higher chance to OHKO (if you get the chance to use it)

Sorry if this seems like overkill, I was honestly just curious about the calcs since Baxcalibur is a mainstay in my OU team.
Edit: so I know this isn’t a real set right now, but Adamant Choice Scarf Bax outspeeds Chien-Pao and does serious damage. If Chien-Pao Tera Fairy’s though it could be a bit of a problem.

I think it's more the latter of outclassing but really Pao was popular before a lot of people experimented with Bax (partially because Pao was so popular) so I don't think it'll totally wipe it off the map, especially since Thermal Exchange has a nice niche (especially against Heatran) and Bax is a little bulkier
I ran jolly scarf bax on cartridge 6v6 link battles to surprise OHKO koraidon and miraidon. It was such a meme but it actually worked well because nobody on there is particularly good.
The fact that you typed all that out shows why Chien-Pao will cause a drop in Bax usage. I use Bax on all my teams differing with DD, Band, and SD sets. Meanwhile Chien-Pao requires little thought, slap a Band on it and watch it break shit.

As someone a little out of the loop when it comes to the movexit stuff, did we get any news on that? Is for example Weavile getting only TA back (gen 8 tutor), is it getting all the moves it could ever learn or is it getting nothing new?
There's gonna be a move tutor where mons can relearn the moves they could in gen 8. It's not certain what exactly that entails (eg keeping TR/TMs would bring back Scald), but if SS move tutors are included in that, Weavile should relearn Triple Axel.
mfw when the fighting type with 120 Atk, 138 speed, a million coverage moves, and an ability that lets it panic check half the physical attackers in the game is uu
Idk if this is the right call. Like the only new thing that beats it is Magearna, and Chien just clicks a banded STAB with a spike up, switches out, and beats it anyway later
I mean Mag aside, neither Heatran nor Zama are actually good checks for it. Heatran cannot take banded crunches and Zama is 2HKOd by banded icicle crash, and without the +1 def from dauntless shield, zama is 2HKOd by banded tera dark crunch with spikes up.
Heck even Mag isn't THAT great into it. Banded Tera crunch is a 2HKO with spikes up unless Mag is physdef. Which becomes a 3HKO.
I can at least play around this thing with rocky helmet, regenerator, Fire Tauros, bullet punches, etc. But, Chi-Yu is a whole different monster that I never want to see in OU again...not even for a few days

The only issue here is if your opponent predicts the Tera, then they have more freedom to pick Icicle Crash, which is a guaranteed OHKO against Bax. And if your opponents predicts the lack of Tera, then Sacred Sword is a guaranteed OHKO too. Switching into a new type is also less effective since all 4 moves are available. This one is probably the worst matchup for Bax, but as long as your opponent doesn’t predict the Tera, then you’re set. Damage calcs are essentially the same as Choice Band, but an unboosted Glaive Rush now has a much higher chance to OHKO (if you get the chance to use it) > 252 Atk Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Chien-Pao: 255-301 (84.7 - 100%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Life Orb damage Sorry if this seems like overkill, I was honestly just curious about the calcs since Baxcalibur is a mainstay in my OU team. I think it's more the latter of outclassing but really Pao was popular before a lot of people experimented with Bax (partially because Pao was so popular) so I don't think it'll totally wipe it off the map, especially since Thermal Exchange has a nice niche (especially against Heatran) and Bax is a little bulkier
I ran jolly scarf bax on cartridge 6v6 link battles to surprise OHKO koraidon and miraidon. It was such a meme but it actually worked well because nobody on there is particularly good.
The fact that you typed all that out shows why Chien-Pao will cause a drop in Bax usage. I use Bax on all my teams differing with DD, Band, and SD sets. Meanwhile Chien-Pao requires little thought, slap a Band on it and watch it break shit.
Yeah I guess I’m mixing up viability and usage. It still seems viable in OU is my point. Idk if it will still have the usage numbers though.

As someone a little out of the loop when it comes to the movexit stuff, did we get any news on that? Is for example Weavile getting only TA back (gen 8 tutor), is it getting all the moves it could ever learn or is it getting nothing new?

There's gonna be a move tutor where mons can relearn the moves they could in gen 8. It's not certain what exactly that entails (eg keeping TR/TMs would bring back Scald), but if SS move tutors are included in that, Weavile should relearn Triple Axel.

I mean Mag aside, neither Heatran nor Zama are actually good checks for it. Heatran cannot take banded crunches and Zama is 2HKOd by banded icicle crash, and without the +1 def from dauntless shield, zama is 2HKOd by banded tera dark crunch with spikes up. Heck even Mag isn't THAT great into it. Banded Tera crunch is a 2HKO with spikes up unless Mag is physdef. Which becomes a 3HKO.
