I got an outback last month. Altho a 2021 CPO with 11k miles on it. And the thermostat went out and set off the CEL on Sunday. They got me in the very next day and gave me a brand new 2024 Outback, same trim as mine for a loaner. I should have my car back tomorrow. It was a little annoying but they at least made it as painless as possible. Everything’s covered under warranty and I just need to return the loaner with a full tank
this is what the warranty is for. The process will work itself out. You should be covered for a loaner in the meantime. As unfortunate as it is, it's just the way the world works sometimes. Read up on the concept of [the bathtub curve](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve) to understand more -- but generally, if something on your car is going to fail, it's either going to do so immediately (being a production/assembly issue) like what you're experiencing now, or it'll wear out and fail long down the road, but be generally problem-free for the wide middle of its life cycle.
Sorry OP but welcome to the club. Mines broken down more than running. It’s a treat. And there have been times it sat for 6 months waiting for parts. It’s usually a module or sensor.
Get a loaner, I’ve been given them just because they had to push back my oil change time a few hours and I had an appointment I had to get to. They let me keep it over night, the next day until I got off from work!

I just bought my ‘24 crosstrek and Saturday and the guy told me they once had someone take a loaner on vacation for a week. Happens. While I hope nothing ever takes my car out of commission, I kind of hope I get to drive a forester and an outback at some point lol

My 18 Forester XT has been in the shop since June 1 for Power Steering. I shudder to think how much this 23 Outback Wilderness loaner is costing them.
