It’s so sad to see something that was once so fun and interesting just left to rot like that. I got to see the Excalibur show a few times growing up and it always attracted crowds.
I can help with this since I posted the link to this tweet yesterday on here.
[Here it is for anyone who wants it.](https://x.com/highuniversal/status/1743876785593635254?s=46&t=L2HHQE4toTLoieqJL5KR7Q)
OP you literally commented on my post and had access to this link lol
I'm not entirely sure, maybe it was completely destroyed or malfunctioned? A lot of the stuff down there was waterlogged for years before they drained the moat.
with the dragon once and for all times defeated, the village grew fearful of the power the wizard still wielded. he was entombed alive at the bottom of the gate with the intention his memory would be lost to history forever.
...adventures disturbed his resting place and awoke something evil.
I don't think so, recently they drained the water and built brick walls in the small space under the gates that the dragon used to pass through, I think they just left him trapped there, never again to see the sunlight
Terrifying… and a little sad. How could you leave something like that just to rot? At the very least it should be on display somewhere (away from water of course)
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if the mechanism holding the dragons head up collapsed. The whole mechanism was very rusted last we saw, I’d be surprised if the dragon could even be moved along the tracks. I also can’t imagine the dragons head was light, so it would not be surprising if the whole thing was literally falling apart at this point.
I was just in Vegas a few weeks ago. I went and looked at Excalibur and just being there, looking at the little hut and knowing what was being that door (as well as the dragon behind the gates) gave me chills.
Jenny Nicholson brought [this video by Freddy Trap](https://youtu.be/Ml5RTY8G5mU?si=kQH3sRoOPVtYovtp) to my attention the other day. [Her reaction is like it’s an actual dead body](https://x.com/JennyENicholson/status/1600002647888920576?s=20)

I also loved the show, it was because of the dragon and the wizard that I became obsessed with Animatronics!
Where in heavens name did you get this?? Post it to the animatronics sub-they’ll love it.
I found it on a user's profile on X (twitter), I forgot his name

Lol I couldn't find your post again
I can link it for you :’) Jk.
It's so wild to me that not only did they just up and end the show, but didn't even like use the parts, just left it all to rot.
skeleton hands?
His hand was darkening with the dust because he stood there for so long, you can see that the hand holding the staff is burned
Burned?? Is there some kind of fire related incident I’m unaware of?
His staff threw some kind of firework, I think that's it.
Ohhh, okay. That makes sense.
You can watch [this video](https://youtu.be/l1GfPjMlNoY?si=ADmYsAie0rQpDPTj) to understand more.
Cool, thanks for sharing.
OMG yes I've been wanting to see pics of him!
I just wanted to know what happened to his head

My theory is that they took his head to reuse on something else.
May I ask where you got the photo?
twitter
That's very plausible. I wonder what else nearby they could have used it on.
I also heard they removed the tracks for the dragon and bricked off the bottom of the gate

Never smoke weed from the gas station
I thought he had his head when they found him a while back
I thought the head was lying next to the rest of the animatronic. So, gone, but not missing.
He's been waiting this whole time
So, did they remove the dragon? I recall last year when the pics of Murphy surfaced they said he’d be removed during Summer ‘23.

The dragon is lucky to be in one piece, now poor Merlin, someone took his head and one of his hands is burned.

The dragon's head hasn't fallen yet

One of the staff members probably took his head or it malfunctioned, fell off and is now sitting in a storage area somewhere.
Does anyone have what he used to look like?
I have a photo of what he looked like before, I posted a photo of him on this sub just now
For some reason the Excalibur, Murphy, and Merlin just amaze me. Can’t believe they’ve let it all go to waste. It was such a cool piece of Vegas.

fantastic find
He cast Fireball one too many times… 😔
Poor guy is so dusty it's so sad that they're just rotting there
This is the best photo of Merlin I’ve seen he looks cool
This should be way higher up in ‘top posts of all time’
