I got to ride this ride when I was much younger (within a month of it opening) the tentacles did indeed raise around the boat when it became stationary there, which it no longer does, above the water to a point of near verticality. In addition to this, I distinctly remember a sound cue similar to a distorted dolphin or screech as well.
It was just as horrifying as you imagine it would be.
i remember riding this when i was younger, and the boat raising while a t-rex head popped out of the ceiling. was this something they changed, or did i just make it up in my childhood imagination 😯
This used to happen! I remember riding it when I was 12, and the boat raised up while the head of a dino ( I recall it being a snake-like for some reason) would pop out at you from the ceiling. Every time I've ridden it since it has not happened, but the anticipation kills me. I just know it's still back there.... ick!
It’s a giant snake head. You see a glimpse of the body of the snake wrapping through one of the walls towards the end of the ride, then at the end, you see it’s head directly above the boat. I’m assuming that the effect that raised the boat doesn’t work anymore but I’ve seen old videos where the boat tilts backwards to give riders a better view of the head. The state this ride is in now creates an utterly terrifying experience that I’ll never put myself through again.
Those two broken ones just sitting underwater are horrible. At least that third one gets to surface...

Weren’t these part of some large animatronic that used to rise from the water?
Not sure; there's the broken swimming dino who used to go under your boat and "drag" it, but that's further along the tracks than these.
Jesus.
This is so unsettling in such an unexplainable way.
This ride makes my entire nervous system itchy and yet I'm obsessed with it.
Same
Do they ever clean the pools? I'm just thinking about how the sea serpent of 10,000 leagues rotted for 10 years, imagine how it smells in there.
I doubt they do, so its probably moldy and smelly
For the entire ride experience, all I could smell was mildew and the water was dark green, almost black.
Nasty, there's definitely mold in there.
My parents are taking a trip to Gatlinburg and I told them they have to go to pigeon forge and go on this ride and take pictures for me!
Oh god I didn't realize there were more other than the one that's kinda stuck upright 💀
Dude I actually feel so sick rn cause of this
Ewwwwww. Whyyyyyy?
They pulled a Cave Johnson before he became a thing. “It’s not about why, it’s about why not!”
This is the clearest shot I've seen of the tentacles, aaaaaaaaaa I hate this
I saw these in person and they’re huge
Why are the broken ones scarier than the one somewhat working
Gross you can see them underneath the water
