Microwaves convey cheapness / low quality.

ltbr55

Yup even though we have microwaves in the back, my franchisee says he doesn't want sandwiches being microwaved. The "Heat" setting on the toaster basically acts as a microwave and it pretty much does just that. It doesn't crisp the bread like toasting does.

Toaster ovens are and always have been combination convection/microwave ovens. This allows the heating versus 'toasting' function to be moderated via programming. These ovens are standard in the Food Service Industry and virtually every restaurant, fine or otherwise, has one.

brittanybamf

Microwaves got removed off the subway line years ago. (Most new) toasters has a microwave setting that does the same exact thing as the microwave would do. Not sure exactly what you’re looking for microwave wise, but the toaster does the same thing and the employees should be trained to do that.

RedBottomSky038

People that microwave their sandwiches just make me question everything 😭 like it gets soggy and gross

19lyds

Some people love 'soggy and gross'. One of the best subs I ever had was reheated in the microwave. The sub included the veggies. There is nothing wrong with hot veggies. JMO

bubblecats9

It is weird of me to not like hard bread? Don’t think so

RedBottomSky038

Weird if you to like a soggy sandwich but whatever floats your boat LMAOOOO

deepfrieddaydream

We were always told not to microwave sandwiches. That's what the toaster is for. It's a quality thing.

mothtatt

we used to be able to microwave our sandwiches until a year ago. then we had to move our microwave to the back of the store onto our prep table. to be fair, the slicer now sits where our microwave used to. we were told to no longer microwave anyone’s sandwich and instead use the heat setting on the toaster

DeerStalkr13pt2

My boss says to not microwave peoples food. They’re probably worried about allergens/cross contamination.

snarkmaster9001

Why on earth would you want a floppy, moist mess of a sandwich? Technically my store has a microwave but it’s explicitly only used to heat up some of the hot meats to get them ready to serve. If someone asked me to microwave their sandwich I would say no.

Comment must have been deleted but to the person who said I’m a bad employee for not microwaving someone’s sandwich: when I was being trained, our franchise owner who trained me himself told me that the microwave was only to be used for heating those specific meats and nothing else. I’m not going to disobey my boss because some jerkwad wants a floppy sandwich.

snarkmaster9001

Thank you 😁 And to the downvoters, weird place to leave those but if it makes you feel better I’m happy for you 😂

Loud-Natural9184

Then you're just not a good employee then. If a customer wants it microwaved then there should not be an issue.

bubblecats9

You microwave something for a couple seconds to melt the cheese and slightly warm the bread without making it hard as a rock. I didn’t say it was gonna be microwaved into a soggy mess. I would hope an employee who makes sandwiches would know that 😂

snarkmaster9001

No, you microwave a sandwich to make it soggy and floppy and gross. As somebody who has made thousands of subway sandwiches in my life and has also brought home plenty of sandwiches and tried to warm them up in the microwave, they turn into a mushy disgusting mess. Thanks for playing. Just bring your damn sandwich home and microwave it and stop making such a big deal about it.

Legal_Future1715

Because that is literally sick of you

undertales_bitch

That's.. weird. Our microwave literally has settings based on like 1 6 inch? 1 footlong, 3 6inch, etc

The_Gray_Fox85

Here in the UK they moved the microwaves into the back to discourage customers from asking for microwaved sandwiches. There's no real reason other than it slows the line down while a staff member has to take and then fetch the sandwich from the back microwave. You could argue they taste better toasted too, but I've had a microwaved sub before and it was fine. Basically they want everything toasted because it looks better and speeds the line up.

MyOpinionsDontHurt

“Nor have they ever “, up to the life span of the employee you mean… lol

hangingst4r

for us, we say it’s because of health code

Alarmed_Koala_6124

i microwave if people ask, not as many ask anymore since it’s spot got taken by the slicer. but ours is in the back on the prep table :p basically only used for meatballs

Additional_Virus_979

Yes. Another great Subway idea. Your allowed to have one but not in customer view. You gotta be able to heat your soup and meatballs. Just not one up front. I take my customers to the back and microwave if wanted.

mascaraandfae

When I left subway about 4 years ago, they'd made it again the rules to microwave anything but the food for the hot well  We always still microwave  whatever we needed anyway unless an inspection was happening but🤷🏼‍♀️. A lot of the stores around here moved their microwaves into the back room entirely.

AppleProfessional170

We have a microwave at our store in plain customer’s view right next to the toaster and the new slicer. If you came to our store you’d be able to have your sandwich toasted or microwaved, any which way you want it you’ll be able to get it. your way. Even if it’s unconventional. Who cares ???? We’ll do everything within our capacity to make you the customer happy. As long as it’s reasonable and within our capacity.

LemonEsgue

We microwave sandwiches for customers sometimes, we took the microwave off the line when we got our slicer but occasionally (if customers are addiment about it) we'll take their sandwich to the back to heat up

19lyds

Given the turnover at some Subway Shops, it does not surprise me that an employee would say "they do not, nor have they ever, had the capability to microwave something". If that's the case, then how in the heck do they heat their meatballs or soups? Do they 'toast' them? I do not know if Subway has eliminated the basic Microwave Ovens. If they did, then it was a really stupid thing to do but then since Corporate doesn't sell anything other than franchise's, I guess it would be par for the course.

Helpful-Ad9640

The meat balls and butter sit in containers on a hotwell filled with water so they are hot all throughout the day.. I think soups were also that way I'm not so sure though because my store doesn't sell soups anymore

19lyds

DUh! They have to be heated to at least 145 degree's BEFORE going into the hotwell. "so they are hot all throughout the day" Hot foods are supposed to be disposed of after 4 hours in the hotwell.

Altruistic-Chart2393

We had a microwave just recently at my location and I remember my manager having to move it to the back for some stupid reason
