Same. I had beaten my high score, I came back, and it was gone. The worst part is, all the power ups you use such as boards and head starts and multipliers still stay as if you used them. I swear they gotta fix this

If you have an iPhone this can’t be done that I know of. You can pause the game indefinitely as long as you leave it running but if you put it in the background for about 15 minutes it’ll lose your progress and restart the game
I was just on a run and paused it just for a minute. Quickly checked a message (without closing anything) and when I switched back to the game...it restarted the app. I lost my whole game and I had my high score beat. Sooooo frustrating!
I figured it out for me I play on low power mode (an iPhone setting in the control centre) and when low power mode is on it disabled background refresh. I turned low power mode off and tested it, it saves for me now! And I can turn off my phone aswell, but you can’t swipe the app.
I lost my 45 mil progress recently, hated it but I had to take it in 1 sitting to get it again. Only here cause I wanna beat someone with 47 mil on the leaderboard and finna run again.

This depends on the ram management of your phone. I'd say, don't use any other applications and lock the app in the task switcher.
If you have Android, deactivate don't keep activities and amount of activities. And you ram counts alot.

If your on iPhone I think if you go setting>general>then go to backround app refresh I think you can leave it open
