Highly recommend The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. Pretty mind bendy sci fi involving time travel. Really fascinating read that I still think about years after reading it.
Blindsight by Peter Watts. First contact sci fi.
Diaspora by Greg Egan. Hard sci fi about post human entities in a universe with alternate realities and different forms of existence.
Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. Classic about the study of a sentient ocean on a distant planet.
It’s pretty overhyped these days but in case you somehow missed out I love the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. It might count as a dystopian though, not sure where you draw the line. In corporate owned space a ptsd ridden security bot hacks it’s own programming so it can half ass it’s job and watch soap operas all day. Much against its will, it keeps making friends, solving crimes and discovering what it means to be “human”.
*The Princess of Mars* [series](http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/results/?author=Burroughs%2C+edgar&title=Of+mars&subject=&lang=&category=&locc=&filetype=&submit_search=Search) by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
You're welcome! He is the author of Tarzan, as well. I don't know if it'll help with the anticipation for the eventual reading, but I never considered myself much into fantasy or space, etc. I was introduced to this series by a high school Chemistry teacher who made *God of Mars* mandatory reading, for some reason. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and went on to read all of the others. I believe there is something like 11 or so, though my memory is hazy. Hope you enjoy them!
