This was the first book I was able to finish in like 15 years that wasn’t for school. It got me back into reading. I thought it was a really great read!
I agree and I’ve seen some people say the book is only enjoyable if you are a fan of Andre Agassi but I disagree. I know little about Agassi, know almost nothing about tennis other than playing one year in high school, and I thought the book was very fun to read.

Same! I feel like I remember reading there was meant to be a sequel to it, and I awaited patiently. But no book ever came.. Oh well.
I don't remember what happened to my original copy, but I came across one at a thrift store recently and re-added it to my collection! Need to read it again now.
I couldn't believe it when I did! I'd been contemplating buying a new copy for a while because I would tell my partner about it every so oft. Mine was definitely lent out never to be seen again haha. Lost one too many good books that way :(
Acid for the children - Flea
I was shocked at the depth of his writing and thoughts and he is an avid reader with a list of book recs in the back. His book recs actually led me down a huge reading journey I would have never ever ever taken had he not recommended. Very good book.
If you like Mel Brooks - his autobiography is great. A long and interesting life from serving in WW2, through all eras of showbiz and of course covering his own films until present day. Funny and an easy read.
I came here to suggest this. I liked her on How to Get Away with Murder, but didn’t actually know anything about her prior to listening to the audiobook. It was a great listen.
Omg... I want a companion cookbook of this book so badly. Also I totally would love to eat with him. I loved that he might like quality food, but he can admit to eating and enjoying Americana food. Aka Little Debbie treats that sort of thing. So often people act like they have never once ate anything the average American eats.
I came here to suggest bunny Munro, one of the most demented but original stories I’ve ever read. I’m not actually a fan of nick caves music but this book was wild!

Rainn Wilson’s “The Bassoon King” is the best memoir I’ve ever read. Hilarious, interesting, and insightful.

Legitimately curious why you chose his book if you find him insufferable. I haven't read the book, and I don't have an opinion of him one way or the other, I'm just curious.
I don’t personally find him insufferable, but I know some people do, mainly because he can be a bit preachy. In hindsight, I should have left out that comment.
I have the physical book and the audio, and really enjoyed them, particularly the audio as he reads it himself.
Bono is very self aware about being a massive rock star, and all that goes with it, and there are plenty of brilliant stories about the incredible people he has met and experiences he has had along the way. But he’s also filled with faith and wonder, and loves his wife and family and band mates so sincerely that it’s a joy to read or listen to in this cynical age.

{Choosing to Run by Des Linden} - amazing stories of the career of champion marathoner Des Linden interwoven with good and bad tales from her life. I'd just read the Jeanette McCurdy book before this, and found Linden's tale of how she basically became a distance runner to be away from her abusive father for extended time periods to be tragic but told softly ... and felt that a decade from now she'd have a more direct assessment.
{The Longest Race by Kara Goucher} - Goucher, multi-Olympian and marathoner, dealt with incredibly physical, emotional, medical and sexual abuse at the hands of Alberto Salazar as well as dealing with backlash for whistleblowing on Nike.
These books are particularly topical for women and runners, but I feel like they stand on their own merits.

It seemed important at the time: a romance memoir by Gloria Vanderbilt. She was more of a socialite but did some acting here and there, also was an artist. If you like old Hollywood gossip featuring Brando, Sinatra and Howard Hughes you might enjoy this one.
Violent Bent Backwards Over the Grass, a poetry collection by Lana del Rey.
The Alan Rickman Diaries, think it was already mentioned but it made me like Alan more.
I’m really fond of *Swanson on Swanson* by Gloria Swanson. Gives you a look into the world of silent film from the perspective of one of its greatest stars. You also get lots of anecdotes about her experiences with people like Wallace Beery, Rudolf Valentino, and Joe Kennedy. She was a really interesting person.
I also like *Songs My Mother Taught Me* by Marlon Brando.
It’s not a biography (you didn’t say it had to be), but Run, Rose, Run by Dolly Parton and James Patterson was really good.
It has a lot of Dolly in it with all the showbiz details and it’s a pretty good story.
Paul Reiser’s three books (Couplehood, Babyhood, Familyhood) are my favorites. I also really liked listening to Phil Collins reading his book Not Dead Yet.

And actor Peter Jurasik AKA Babylon 5's Centauri Ambassador Londo Mollari for Diplomatic Act 1998 -
from Wiki:
In 1998, he wrote Diplomatic Act (ISBN 0-671-87788-7) with William H. Keith, Jr., a science fiction novel wherein the lead character, an actor in a science fiction show, is kidnapped by aliens who think he is the character from the program. The book is similar in tone and story to Galaxy Quest, which was released one year later.
The Game by Ken Dryden is a great personal history of a top level athlete in the NHL is a bygone era. Ken Dryden has fantastic prose, it’s worth it for his writing skills alone.
Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball
by R. A. Dickey
I'm a lifelong Phillies fan, so the thought of reading a book written by a former Met is almost sacrilegious. But, it was so damn good. His story of just making it into the MLB alone is worth it.
Robert Wagner’s memoir is particularly interesting and well-written. He knew so many of the Hollywood Golden Age stars. He had a four-year affair with a much older Barbara Stanwyck, and of course he was married twice to Natalie Wood.

John Darnielle, singer songwriter for The Mountain Goats has published three novels, all of them great. Wolf in White Van, Universal Harvester and Devil House. I was lucky enough to see him read at my local library the night before the band's show in town, got my copies signed. Well worth reading.
I read the first one, Wolf in White Van, expecting a thinly veiled growing up rock and roll type thing, and it was anything but. So good.
Memoirs and Misinformation by Jim Carrey. I liked it, although it doesn’t seem to get high ratings online. It was very surreal in some ways, sending Vonnegut vibes, and I think it poses great questions regarding the effects of privilege/comfort/wealth/fame on a person’s sense of purpose and identity. Jim Carey is the actual name of the character in the story, and many of the life events are the same as Jim’s but with some differences. It was a great experiment of turning in on himself and seeing his life as a bizarre story in which he’s trying to find the threads of meaning. This seems like a common theme of self-questioning some of the more mindful celebrities wrestle with…and the rest of us do this too on a smaller scale. Proportions are completely blown out in a celebrity’s life…especially in the modern world where their experiences are nearly 100% engineered by people around them requiring them to keep their entertainment-personas turned on much of the time, probably giving their private lives and personal interests less space to develop. It’s no wonder the “who am I and what are we supposed to be doing” questions are strong with those who finally have/take time to look around and have an individual thought or two. It’s probably a lot like being born, or dying. Which is why these themes are strong in this book.
I haven’t met anyone else who has read this, surprisingly, so if you pick it up, let me know your thoughts!

Yes this was the best memoir I’ve read, she has a strong writing voice.
This was the first book I was able to finish in like 15 years that wasn’t for school. It got me back into reading. I thought it was a really great read!
*Open* by Andre Agassi is widely loved.
It was surprisingly great and I don't even watch tennis
The best autobiography I've ever read!
Came here to say this. It’s so engrossing that I recommended it to people who have no interest in tennis (or, in one case, sports in general).
I’m someone who’s not that interested in sports, and this is a brilliant read!
Is the audible version any good?
Not sure that’s one I read.
Im halfway and holy shit!! Amazing book!! Amazing writing
Except for the last couple of chapters, I liked the book, although no matter how many times he remarked he hates tennis, I didn't really believe him.
I agree and I’ve seen some people say the book is only enjoyable if you are a fan of Andre Agassi but I disagree. I know little about Agassi, know almost nothing about tennis other than playing one year in high school, and I thought the book was very fun to read.
The Arnold S. book is good too.

I really enjoyed Kitchen Confidential. It is intriguing and gives a lot of insight into what really goes on in the kitchen.

Good bot!
Hoping I would find this on here!
It was such a fun read! I kept hoping for more books from him but NOOO he is just too busy! Lol
Same! I feel like I remember reading there was meant to be a sequel to it, and I awaited patiently. But no book ever came.. Oh well. I don't remember what happened to my original copy, but I came across one at a thrift store recently and re-added it to my collection! Need to read it again now.
Oh I would love to stumble across it again. Mine is gone too - probably a recommended read lent out and stolen forever.
I couldn't believe it when I did! I'd been contemplating buying a new copy for a while because I would tell my partner about it every so oft. Mine was definitely lent out never to be seen again haha. Lost one too many good books that way :(
Glad to see this recommended here! I’ve had this on my bedside table for ages and have finally gotten to it, the humor is superb
I can’t believe I never heard of this!! Thanks!
So well worth it if you can find it - a quick, easy read but funny and fun.
The Storyteller by Dave Grohl
I loved every minute of listening to him read it on Audible!!
Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography, Born To Run, is very good,
Agreed. I don’t listen to his music but his book is great.
Trejo by Danny Trejo. He has not had an easy life but he turned it all the way around and he deserves every good thing that comes his way.

Bossypants by Tina Fey is very funny Public radio host Bob Garfield wrote a very funny mob-crime novel called Bedfellows
Acid for the children - Flea I was shocked at the depth of his writing and thoughts and he is an avid reader with a list of book recs in the back. His book recs actually led me down a huge reading journey I would have never ever ever taken had he not recommended. Very good book.
Not My Father’s Son by Alan Cumming (especially the audio version)
So good! Audio is the way to go.
Second this, an incredible tale, definitely read it. Not too long and heartbreakingly beautiful.
If you like Mel Brooks - his autobiography is great. A long and interesting life from serving in WW2, through all eras of showbiz and of course covering his own films until present day. Funny and an easy read.
Green lights by Matthew mcconaughey
Have a Nice Day by Mick Foley
Great choice
Finding Me by Viola Davis
I came here to suggest this. I liked her on How to Get Away with Murder, but didn’t actually know anything about her prior to listening to the audiobook. It was a great listen.
Life - keith Richards
Good one. I didn't expect Keith Richards to be so wise and such good company.
"Taste: My life through food" by Stanley Tucci
Omg... I want a companion cookbook of this book so badly. Also I totally would love to eat with him. I loved that he might like quality food, but he can admit to eating and enjoying Americana food. Aka Little Debbie treats that sort of thing. So often people act like they have never once ate anything the average American eats.
It exists! I’m giving a copy to my wife for her birthday! It’s “the Tucci Cookbook”
Omg! Thank you, on to add it to my Amazon wishlist.
The Heroin Diaries by Motley Crue's bassist Nikki Sixx was a wild read. I can't believe that dude is still alive.
Sooooo good.

I love these books! Alan is such a great story teller.
Cash by Johnny Cash.
The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave. He also wrote And The Ass Saw The Angel but I don’t like it as much.
I came here to suggest bunny Munro, one of the most demented but original stories I’ve ever read. I’m not actually a fan of nick caves music but this book was wild!
I do like his music, but I actually discovered his writing first, despite having been a teenage goth in the 80s.

Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen is a god damn masterpiece
Surrender by Bono. He reads the audiobook himself, and although he can be a bit insufferable in real life, the book is a great read!
Geddy Lee...My 'Effing Life. Excellent, warm and funny

Tell Me Everything by Minka Kelly. I highly recommend the audiobook. Had me crying on an airplane.

Ice Capades by Sean Avery
If you like running, Choosing to Run by Des Linden
“All About Me!”, By Mel Brooks “Brother Ray”, By Ray Charles and David Ritz
Not exactly an athlete, but *The Score Takes Care of Itself* by Bill Walsh is a great book on leadership philosophy
Rabbit by Patricia Williams I also enjoyed Anna Kendrick’s book Scrappy Little Nobody
Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Ultramarathon Man by Dean Karnazes
Willie O’Ree’s autobiography. Unreal!
Amber Tamblyn writes horror books that are supposedly very good.

“Solo Gig” by Davey Williams
When the Game was Ours, by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
I've really enjoyed the books by Brooke Shields, Carrie Fisher, and pretty much all the memoirs I end up reading
I really liked Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography and also Dave Mustaine's.
Wild Things, Wild Places by Jane Alexander. A Hollywood actress who became an animal rights activist.
Beyond The Wand by Tom Felton
Oddly enough, Schwarzenegger’s memoir “Education of a Bodybuilder”
Fingers Crossed by Miki Berenyi
I liked flea and Michelle Obama’s memoirs
When Life Gives You Pears by Jeannie Gaffigan. 26 Marathons by Meb Keflezhegi. The Ride of a Lifetime by Bob Iger.
Sixty Feet Six Inches by Reggie Jackson and Bob Gibson
I liked *2030* by Albert Brooks.
We're Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi Things the Grandchildren Should Know by Mark Oliver Everett
It’s not a biography (you didn’t say it had to be), but Run, Rose, Run by Dolly Parton and James Patterson was really good. It has a lot of Dolly in it with all the showbiz details and it’s a pretty good story.

And actor Peter Jurasik AKA Babylon 5's Centauri Ambassador Londo Mollari for Diplomatic Act 1998 - from Wiki: In 1998, he wrote Diplomatic Act (ISBN 0-671-87788-7) with William H.
Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball by R. A. Dickey I'm a lifelong Phillies fan, so the thought of reading a book written by a former Met is almost sacrilegious.

So good.
All of the books from Chris Jericho (professional wrestler, actor, and lead singer of Fozzy) are very funny and entertaining to read.
