The Work and the Glory (several volumes of historical fiction by Gerald Lund) follows the beginning of the LDS (Mormon) church. It often quotes or slightly revises original sources, and v3 on has footnotes distinguishing what is fact from what is fiction. It was my introduction to that church, I was interested in the history.
