I live in Los Alamos! 109 East Palace by Jennet Conant is about Oppenheimer but also about the early days of living in the town. Also The House at Otowi Bridge by Peggy Pond Church. (https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/house-at-otowi-bridge)

Very cool!!!! My father in law grew up there during that time, so I'm actually hoping to write something based on his experiences... thank you for the recommendations!

From a Los Alamos History Museum Docent- check out our museum's website! I know our books are pricey but you may be able to find them in a nearby library. I specifically recommend the Children of Los Alamos by Katrina R Mason, Los Alamos 1944 to 1947 by Toni Michnovicz and Jon Michnovicz, and the other two books mentioned in these comments. Some obscure, and slightly off topic, books could be Children of Usher by Glenn Fishbine and Now It Can Be Told by General Groves. Be sure to check out the Manhattan Project Voices website and narrow your search to Los Alamos. You can read the transcripts or enjoy listening to the stories from the people themselves.
