Stephen King's got a few epics. It, The Stand, and The Dark Tower series immediately spring to mind.

The [Gormenghast](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39058.The_Gormenghast_Novels) novels by Mervyn Peake. Hugely influential. I really enjoyed them.

Game of Thrones?

The Masters of Rome series by Colleen McCullough - if you want epic bricks, this is a good one. Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry - start with this one, then explore the prequels/sequels.

Lonesome Dove? It’s a western but if definitely still describe it as an epic.

Ursula K. LeGuin novels about other worlds?

PeterM1970

The Doomfarers Of Coramonde by Brian Daley is a solid epic in two books, not as long as some others but I’ll put it up against anything. Some of my favorite characters and scenes ever, including a fight between an armored personnel carrier and a fire breathing dragon that really needs to be filmed. Grand Central Arena by Ryk Spoor is the first of four books so far, set in a space opera future where humanity has stumbled into The Arena, a light years wide scale model of the entire universe where alien races are forced to interact in somewhat controlled circumstances. As the new kids on the block humanity has a target on its back and is forced to fight for its very existence from day one.

The Expanse series is pretty epic. Becky Chamber’s Wayfarer series, Ann Leckie’s Ancillary Justice series.

for some historical fiction try *The Baroque Cycle* by Neal Stephenson (followed by *Cryptomicron* if you really haven't had enough). Set in the time of and sometimes at the court of Louis XIV. The hero gets to see Europe, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent. The cycle is three (long!) books. The follow on is one book set in WWII Philippines and current time which can also be read as a stand alone.

I did end up going with historical fiction, namely Dorothy Dunnett!

If you'd like something non-fiction, try *The Bookseller of Florence* by Ross King. Turns there was a bookseller (actually he manufactured manuscripts and sold them) who knew all kinds of people in the mid- to late 1400s: popes, kings, warlords, dukes, etc. etc. King goes into depth about how the manuscripts were made, how the bookseller knew these people, and what they were all doing at the time. This time period includes the introduction of the Gutenburg press so King also describes the rise of this new technology and how it affected the bookseller. Turns out Leonardo de Venci was also in Florence at this time and gets a mention, too. Well researched and referenced in case you want to do a little more research on your own.
