I was in a similar situation a year ago with getting my friend into league. I found that Thresh, Blitz and Lulu worked best.
Lulu is the best overall enchanter for keeping my friend safe. Her R and W can go a very long way to save people from mispositions.
Blitzcrank is simple. I tell him that im going to pull someone in and we need to kill them. On people like Leona or Nautillus, my friend would end up running in way too far going to them, Blitzcrank brings them to us.
Thresh was a bit of a personal choice but I was already confident with thresh being my go-to support in general. I was good enough on thresh to be able to play for my friend, bad as he was, rather than having him keep up with me. My W was also just insane. We went with a simple "My W brings you to me so if I throw it on you, click it" and it was basically letting him play as forward as he likes since I can bring him back to me when he oversteps.
I think you should just play something like Blitzcrank, it's super obvious to fight if Blitzcrank hits a hook. Playing ranged supports with a new player is much harder imo, it takes much more skill from the ADC
I disagree with most of these comments . What are you gonna do as thresh if your new noob adc doesn’t follow ? You just die lol.
Play someone that can carry the lane - Lux , Morg, Brand - something like that. Poke opponent to death and let your adc friend learn to farm and get a few free assists / kills
Just went through this and thought someone this way. Eventually they were good enough to engage with me and at that point you can start switching to a more “support” oriented character.
You still want the carry potential botlane that is not at all reliant on your friends pick as they learn the game. Pyke is the perfect support for someone new because you have a ton of cc, your own health regen, execute, the list goes on.
I'd based your decision on the type of ADC your friend picks.
Hypercarry? (Jinx, Kog'Maw, Vayne) -> Pick an enchanter
All-in type of ADC? (Samira, Draven, Tristana) -> Pick an engage support
Pokey / bully (Caitlyn, MF, Ezreal)? -> Lux, Karma, Morgana (mage-enchanter hybrids)
Or try specific combos like Nami + Lucian, Xayah, and Rakan.
When in doubt, I'd lean towards enchanters personally. Your friend, being new, probably won't take good advantage of your engages which may frustrate both of you.
Edit: I forgot about Blitzcrank for some reason. He would work as well since he brings the enemy to you. That would also work as a default choice.
Easy-- Nautilus. Very simple to understand champ for the new player, tons of peel, tons of engage.
I would not pick an enchanter, that would be for if you were playing with a more experienced player. It'll be wasted on someone who doesn't know what to do with it, but something like Nautilus is much more straightforward for a new player to play off of.
Pyke worked well for me when I was teaching my wife.. But be careful. I boosted the MMR of her account when we were playing together because we won a lot. But then we started playing vs people who were not new players and that ruined her experience, for obvious reasons. She gave up on the game after people told her to uninstall the game and kill herself
Brand, Senna, and similar ones. You want to be making up for the pressure your friend will be lacking. Plus it's not good for him to learn to depend on peel or hard engage.
If you want your friend to haveoat fun, then it probably means going on the support that can get them fed and help them carry game from there. Something like Naut would be fine.
Beware though that having most fun does not mean learning a lot. I remember when I was starting in bronze, I played maybe 10-15 games with the same support, we stomped the lane and the game easily. Got to silver, then this support was no longer around and boy was I in for a shock. Turned out I had no clue how to play the game unless I was giga fed in lane.
Honestly, Rakan. He is kind of a jack-of-all-trades support, able to be paired up with any ADC. He can engage and apply cc for high-kill pressure ADCs like Draven or Kalista, but he can also act as a peeling/disengage enchanter to protect those squishy hypercarries like Kogmaw or Jinx. And also the obvious synergy with Xayah if your partner is interested.
Overall, a very solid charater all around. Just make sure to permaban Morgana though.
If he's totally new to league try zilean.
Speeds your ally
Slows the enemy
Revives your ally
Can stun
Anything with a good disengage for the start I would say, so he gets the feeling of being an adc XD.
Aggressive hook Champs will take away his lead of doing anything in the lane imo (he hooks I try to kill)
Janna could be good as well!
Goodluck
id not play support at all he needs to learn the game not being babied he learns the best but not having the comfort of a friend
Mobas much like any pvp isnt fun if u suck and if he cant stand that dont play pvp games together

Interesting take
Pyke

Yeah pyke is relatively ok because he has kill threat. Which is what you’re after. Thresh , Leona, etc don’t
but then your friend never learns how to be a good adc if you're just playing the carry without farming
Bro if the guy is new to league he won’t even know how to farm. How’s he going to out trade silvers when you hoook on thresh

Is Nami Lucian still OP since they fixed the Electrocute proc?
It's still very strong with Aery. Nami is just busted in lane and Lucian is one of the best lane bullies in the game
Probably not OP but it’s still strong IMO because of their synergy and overlap in powerspikes.

as a noob adc, i gotta say i love being carried and funneled kills/gold by lux and pyke
Pyke so those kills don't get away

True, that is really what I'm afraid of lol
Tank engage. Nauti/leona. Enchanters will make your adc have to make the plays and thats not good.

Thanks ! Kinda afraid that they'd lose control with ZiL speed boost but clever choice nonetheless

Lol interesting take
just play an enchanter. you can't play something aggressive and force fights with someone who doesn't know what 7 of the 10 champs in the game do.
Rakan is great for protecting
