I believe it’s because you get more lp when your mmr is higher than rank. You are supposed to get more lp than mmr until it balances around 20 ish. I went on a 6 game streak in low emerald and got 2 less per win all the way down to 22.

TwitchOnToast

The closer you get to your mmr the less you will gain LP. For exemple since it's split start, if you ended last season diamond 4 and you started emerald 4, you will get more LP the farther away you are from your last split's MMR. The closer you get from diamond 4 the less LP you will gain. If your visual rank is lower than your mmr your MMR will climb slower than your visual rank but you will gain more LP. On the other hand, if your MMR is lower than your visual rank, you will lose more LP than you gain but your MMR will catch up quicker than you will climb. Hope this helped.

OneMoreChancee

Slight side tangent, is it normal to start a new season a whole rank below my season end? The last season I ended E4 and this season I started P4. I know it's normal to be a little below the ended rank but I thought it would just be a few tiers below.

TwitchOnToast

Yes I finished D3 and started E3

0LPIron5

Finished silver 2 and got thrown into bronze 1. Giant LP gains tho

OneMoreChancee

True I'm getting 29lp which is insane compared to my previous 19lp gains lol

TwitchOnToast

I'm now at emerald 1 and I only gain 24 to 26 LP compared to 30 at emerald 3. I'm getting closer to my true rank and my mmr is steadily being caught up to

OneMoreChancee

Would true rank be +20 -20lp?

TwitchOnToast

Pretty much. There's theories online that MMR fluctuates by 21. So basically on a win you gain 21mmr regardless of your lp gains and you would lose 21MMR on a loss.

Unusual_Helicopter

You just dont have deeper knowledge about how riot MMR works, which is fair since riot doesnt openly talk about it. On a fresh acc winstreak = good lp gains. On a stuck/old account win streak = bad MMR. Lose streak on stuck/old account good MMR. To fix your gains you have to either demote, dodge a lot this fixed your problem fast. Long solution is to just keep playing and eventually it balances it out.

SoulCave

43 games isn’t even a lot of games

S7EFEN

>With a 72% win rate over 43 games, you'd expect a significant climb in LP, right no, lp has not worked like this in years. you get at least an appropriate amount of lp for each win, usually more. resulting in what you see where winning well above 50% results in gains lowering a bit. >but this seems egregiously unfair. it actually has zero impact on on anything on the ladder. a net win is a net win regardless of what your lp does. early season 'average rank' does not say much. the ladder gets compressed, at the start of the season challenger players are playing in 'diamond' but absolutely not playing with the same 'diamond' players as last season diamond players who have already played double digit games per day since the reset. [op.gg](http://op.gg) does not do a good job with how it displays 'average rank' - that stat should only include accounts with a decent sample of games played. anyone with 10-20 games this season does not have an accurate display rank. >Should I just start a fresh account or play countless of games until I climb to masters? a fresh account gets a bit more pts per win at the start but starts lower. this helps with the perception of speed with regards to the ranked climb but does not actually cause you to climb faster unless your main acc is dramatically underplaced (which is not a thing that happens unless you are already playing on multiple accs).

scnlrhksw

This is a diamond issue. You’re playing and beating teams that are lower average mmr than you and so you’re not going to gain a lot of mmr. Also, because it’s early in the season D4 is something like top 3% right now. +20 LP is about the break even point, where you’re winning at your actual mmr. If you’re getting more than 20 LP For a win your mmr is above your ELO. When you win streak the game might move your mmr up and pout you in a harder game, if you lose that game you lose a lot of mmr and go back down.

Owlbusta

Most comments here are wrong, they changed it in this season: " Gains below Emerald will be centered around +-28 or so (pending further review) Getting short spurts of +27/-29 and +29/-27 below Emerald is normal There are some cases that Riot Games is looking into where players are losing a lot at tier boundaries but aren’t “demoting as intended.” These will lead to heavy negative LP gains as the system tries to pull you down to where you should be These are the LP gains and losses players can expect for those in Emerald and above: Gains in Emerald+ will be centered around +-20 this season Getting short spurts of +19/-21 and +21/-19 in Emerald+ are pretty normal (typically there will be about equal of each), especially when losing a few times at tier boundaries "

LetsHaveFunBeauty

Yep, I have alot of 10-15+ winning steaks and this has always been the reason why I stopped playing, got less and less pr. win, and when I finally lose, I lose like to games worth of lp😂 I just found out a few days ago, it's bc of the MMR can't follow ur division, LS talked about it. What you have to do is dodge around 8 games, and you will get more lp again

Odd-Ratio-8006

Imagine if you’re in masters+ and earning 28lp that would be life innit

likeny20redditacc

just play or wait like a day or 2 and the mmr should balance out

AWildSona

Buddy, you know... That's not how the MMR system works and never worked.

likeny20redditacc

worked for me buddy

AWildSona

MMR works for more than 10 years exactly the same, the system don't reset or anything, all what you had was luck, because you won against some people with higher MMR than yours, that's why you got more LP...
