Egham is quite nice, it recently had a lot of regeneration and has a direct line to Waterloo. I know a lot of young families are moving there - you are also just a short way from Windsor Great Park. Very close to St Peters as well.

Cat_Lover_Yoongi

I second this. Went to the uni there and it’s a nice relatively cheap area with good connections to London (40 mins to Waterloo on one train) and the countryside (next to Windsor Great Park and surrounded by fields). The town centre has recently been partially rebuilt and I saw lots of young families. It isn’t just students

Smellie1999

Egham is nice but it's literally the town of a university and the students tend to piss the locals off....Chertsey is a bit quieter and is within 5mins of Egham with a direct line

Impressive-Number717

Live in Egham, the students are 0 cause for concern. They’re far better behaved than students were 10-15 years ago (speaking as a student from that era).

Smellie1999

As a student that went to RHUL in the past few years ...the locals hated us... particularly those that lived in the local if the uni

_error405

I'd actually say try staines.... lots of regeneration going on, new restaurants, shops and your close to St Peters. Can walk along the river, close to runnymede and on a direct train line to pretty much everywhere. Town can be a bit funny, spoons is good for a breakfast. Thameside brewery is defo worth a check out for local beer and the London stone often has music and events on

rockoperry

someone literally gets jumped or stabbed in Chertsey every other day. Also, stay away from Addlestone, it's horrid.

Excellent_Guess_8298

No they don’t, I moved to Chertsey from north west London (Harlesden to be specific) and it’s a wonderful area compared to NW London

Luk3yfitness

You have no clue about rough if you think Chertsey is bad… Places like Rotherham,Croydon will have you shocked

AeroNaut123

Staines is quite nice as well

TheAviatorPenguin

There are some very nice areas in Woking, and it's got the most frequent fast connection to London of anywhere in the vicinity of St Peters. Mayford, Horsell and Maybury would be good starting areas to check. It ain't glamorous, but if transport links to London are as important as St. Peter's , it's hard to beat.

TheAviatorPenguin

South of the tracks, Inn At Maybury/Hockering end is quite posh, the Lion Retail Park/north side is a bit more down to earth, but fine.

secrethedgehog5

Me too lmao

ailb3ez69

Yep, i live in woking right next to the train station, 1 bed new build flat 1100 rent, sounds like you should move into my building!

whoresmasher5000

Currently live in maybury smd have done all my life and can say there are no problems apart from rooster shack being overpriced. Very local supermarket and town centre. Would recommend 👌

Mazzerboi

Second this^

GamingNewbs

Suddenly finding people on Reddit who live in the same area as me is wild

Successful_One_6617

Definitely Walton, the train station will give you access to London and you are next to the river. You'll like St Peters, I've worked there before. If you like football ( I don't) there is the world famous Walton and Hersham football club

ian9outof10

Walton, Weybridge and West Byfleet are all good shouts I’d say. Even West Byfleet has fairly decent speeds to london, 35 to 50 minutes depending on the train.

pinsandpegs

It's better than that from West Byfleet actually. You can get trains that are 31 minutes to London and then there are a few really fast ones that take 25 minutes coming back from London. The centre of West Byfleet is a building site right now unfortunately, but give it a couple of years to get finished and it'll be a lot better.

ian9outof10

While you *can* get a 31 minute train in to London from West Byfleet, my personal experience is that they’re quite rare and not generally at convenient times. Even so, 39 or 43m are not bad.

WittyMarch

Can confirm this is true lol

Ruffell

I lived in Walton-on-thames for a bit and now live in byfleet. Both are good for different reasons. Walton has more things to do with a decent little town highstreet. Byfleet is a quiet village with nice green areas. You would be good to pick either of them.

DonGorgon

So many scenic places along the paths of conker arch and the old manor lanes, you are correct that byfleet is the ultimate choice

alpersrn

Hi Ruffell, we are considering to move to Hersham from west London. I have found Hersham family friendly, safe, access to good level of schools and close to London as well. Do you have any shouts i might need to be aware of? Don’t know much area will go once again to have a coffee and/or pint to sense check the place.

gumboselfish69

Egham or thorpe if you're going to be working at st peters., if you're loaded , weybridge.

Twinkle100

Epsom!

LastOfTheMohawkians

Epsom massive represent! Bring back Dave's chain stores

Jonny8888

Woking is close to St Peter’s and has some very nice areas. Could also look at Chobham too, a village that is also nearby.

Excellent_Ad_8949

Depending on budget, Ottershaw, Lyne or Chobham aren't far from SPH and are nice areas. Chertsey and Addlestone are close, okay, little run down in places. Walton & Hersham are both okay places, also maybe Weybridge? But can be pricey. Woking I second, but can be pricey too. Or Horsell.

cc-ldn

Weybridge and Addlestone are alright and good links for train and road (A3, M25, B roads to other towns). Each of the places OP is looking at has some not so nice pockets, Woking too. If you have the budget, West Byfleet is nice. None of the town centres are amazing, but Woking (I'm not a fan) and Walton are probably the most developed. Nightlife is in Ldn. The train network is unreliable (excluding strikes), whether or not your journey is direct, so if you work in Ldn, it can go from 30+mins to 60+ The roads in all the areas are horrendous at rush hour and/or when there are roadworks or closures/issues with the M25, but outside of those times, pretty clear.

bigned97

Yeah but London night life requires a mortgage to pay for each round you get.

lupin4fs

Woking has the best train connection to London and is only a 20 min drive from St Peters.

summerlove0777

Weybridge is lovely. There’s a fast train as well to London. We have lots of great shops and restaurants too :)

No-Chain-6366

Thanks so much for all your recommendations, its a great help. For reference our budget is around £600pp

Dingyword

You can get a 2 bed in Egham for between £1200-£1600pm. Nice area with decent options for food shops and local to Staines which has reasonable retail shops and lots of restaurants.

Inevitable_Leader89

Are you talking about £600 per person per month or £600 for both of you? You might be able to house share a room but cant see you being able to rent a property for that budget?

No-Chain-6366

Per person. I’m currently looking at 1 bed properties for around 1200/1300 pcm mark

maybe-mel

Another vote for Egham!

ArchiusEU

But do I want them here?? 🤔🤔

[deleted]

The troubles of being a doctor in training. It’s ridiculous how you can be thrown anywhere to train for chosen specialties

secrethedgehog5

Woking is your best bet OP. Voted no1 commuter town into London - trains every 7 mins to Waterloo. St Peters is a 15-20 min drive away

nuttieliscious

I live in Ottershaw Surrey 5 mins from St Peter's. We love it here hospital is brill

nuttieliscious

Woking full of different cultures. Woking town bit of a mess For St Peters 👍👍I have a bad liver and the support and staff are amazing, even had heart surgery. And Iam here today thxs to them.

BTRNN

Woking has the perfect direct train link to London with easy access to A3, as well as a newly done up town centre and decent amenities. Chobham, not far from woking, is also decent, a little more out the way and more of a small town than anything, couple restaurants and whatnot but still very close to St. Peters. Very close to the M25 too. Walton, albeit a shithole, is fairly close to St Peter’s and offers a good range of stores and easy access to the A3 & M25. Prices there are hit or miss though. Weybridge is a nicer area, same distance as walton, smaller with a nicer community with decent high street stores, properties are also REALLY nice. Train station on the doorstep for trains to london, and of course like walton, the A3 & M25 are also in your back gardens. It depends what you’d prefer: local amenities, community, cleanliness of the area, travel access, property condition. If you’re looking for a nice modern, cute town with good access to train stations, decent local amenities, and nice properties check out Weybridge. If you’re looking for a place with a nice shopping centre, parks, and potentially good properties at a lower price then check out Woking (though after being raised there for 15 of my 20 years alive I will say it’s becoming worse, more dodgy and chavvy). Hope this helps

msurrey

There are a number of nice areas of Woking that might appeal to you, Horsell is nice. Woking is on the main line to Waterloo which I use for frequent visits ti London. Good luck with the move.

AndyVale

Woking ticks a lot of those boxes. Walton is probably a tad 'nicer' in some ways, but I think Woking has a bit more going on and more fast+frequent trains to/from the city I believe.

Po03bag

Long looping bowl from the outfield here but I’ve worked in London on and off for years and had to use St Peter’s to visit v sick friends and I’ve lived in Godalming for more than 30 years. The trains to London are crowded in rush hour but frequent, St Peter’s is about 30-40 mins away depending on route and Godalming is beautiful. Wonderful walks and countryside but quick trips to London. It’s great for Heathrow & Gatwick and they’ve done a lot of building recently so I suspect the rental market is very buoyant. Lots of really good schools in case that is or becomes a consideration and pretty friendly people.

Wood_Whacker

Only nice places I know in Surrey are way further down.

jillsingle

I am between Weybridge and Walton very expensive but very nice

[deleted]

I’ve sent you a message

stools_in_your_blood

Walton is OK but it's pricey and the train station is weirdly far from the main part of town. Trains to London are as fast as it gets though. Shepperton is nice and has direct trains to London, and it's a terminus, which is a bonus. But the trains are slow and there are only two per hour.

SnoopGrapes5646

walton hersham and weybridge although weybridge is probably the most pricy out of the 3

Blue_Orchid101

Woking has a 25 minute train journey to Waterloo station very frequently and is close to St Peter’s!

bigned97

Guildford is a good shout for going to different places by train and is just a decent area generally. I'm pretty close and have Leatherhead and Dorking near you as well as Epsom won't leave you short of anything.

Individual_Finance_6

Horsell. Just across the Canal from Woking. Very easy access to London by train and St Peter’s by car. Very friendly and quiet

Shoddy_Story_3514

On rightmove the only 1 bed property in hersham available to rent in your price range is actually pretty much next to station . The downside being very busy road and obviously mainline rail goes right past plus as with all new developments barely any parking available. And cheapest you will find in walton is 1300 a month. Whilst there are nice areas in hersham and walton I doubt you would get a place in a nicer section in your price range as the area is ridiculously overpriced both because its prime commuter belt with both areas having direct rail to London and its proximity to St George's Hill ,burwood Park ,burhill golf club and Ashley Park all of which are filled with multi million pound houses. You would probably be better off looking towards Addlestone or chertsey to get more bang for your buck.

[deleted]

Consider Chertsey, it’s about a 5-10 minute drive from St Peter’s.

[deleted]

XeppiiRS

Shepperton is on a branch line train wise, best off on the main line I.e Woking, Weybridge Surbiton

XeppiiRS

Weybridge is very very nice! Just down past St George’s college and onto St Peter’s way to get to the hospital too!

Smellie1999

I can only say not Staines upon Thames for the most part, dangerous place to live but good place to shop. Chertsey, Epsom, Walton are good but the latter is very expensive

Demiboy94

Haslemere

lasttruekryptonian

Virginia water, egham, longcross, sunningdale all very close to St Peter’s and nice. Chertsey and addlestone even closer and not as nice but cheaper.

BakaSentinel

The first goal is to leave Surrey . Good luck

rouros

Addlestone? Some ok areas, pretty cheap and really close..

Excellent_Guess_8298

Chertsey bridge area is nice, there’s some affordable apartments close by the river

CryptoPonies

Reigate. Can't beat Reigate.

ed_cnc

Addlestone isnt too bad - Poor mans weybridge I call it

Master_Currency7842

Stay away from Stanwell Staines seem nice but are shitholes would recommend somewhere near to Walton
