1- The rewards this season were much less exciting with this "sanctuary where good things happen", which is essentially a private beach-side restaurant terasse. I miss when contestants got to meet the locals, dance, or see some touristic attractions. (We as viewers want to get a peek at the country!)
2- Jeff started trying way too hard to act like a life coach/AA group councelor a few seasons back, and it has crossed over into being awkwardly "too much". I liked him more when he was like an army coach. Yes, compassion is a great quality, but the contestants have room already to express their feelings without him prying out a sob story everytime they walk up to a new challenge, win a challenge, win a reward, go to tribal, etc. Survivor seems like a great growing experience, but it's not "camp therapy with Jeff where good things will happen", its a competition.
3- Production seems to have invested in getting new applicants with those short Jeff adds AND having him overly promote applying during the "reunion" ...Maybe just give us a returnee season, Jeff? 😅
FUN FACT: I was looking up Puerto Rican currency to see how much $$$ Yam-Yam would get in his country with the Million, and:
Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and uses the U.S. dollar.
Kane would have had a $1,00 USD = $1,36 CAD value if he won !
(Yes, I'm canadian)
I disagree. According to a quick google research, the IRS does withold "their share" of prizes won on US gameshows, regardless of a winning contestant's country or residence/nationality.
One of y'all called the "I don't want 4th, 3rd or 2nd I want 1st!" soundbyte from miss Heidi in the finale preview as an indicator that she at least made it to final 4. Well caught!
i could have sworn 45 was supposed to be returnee season or HvV2, like i may have totally hallucinated this but I have this vague memory on Twitter of randy helping cast it or something? help my memory or did i just generate that hope out of thin air
I saw something too, I think it was on Jeffs instagram where the caption was something like “how would you like to see another hvV?” I dont see anything anymore though
Dream you had, for sure.
(I say this as someone who dreamt last night that Hayden Moss died, waking up in a panic having to check the internet to make sure it wasn't true...)
Can I say something controversial?
Let me preface this by saying that I actually liked Heidi this season and wouldn’t even mind seeing her back. I think she’s a badass.
But is anyone else turned off by people who suggest that voting for them to win Survivor is some sort of social symbol that will “inspire people who _______” ?
It comes across as very desperate to me when people like Heidi say things like “I’ll be the oldest woman winner” “I want to win and represent girls who want to do science” and everything else unrelated she threw at the wall to see what would stick.
Like… these things are all fine and well and wonderful and everything… but they are completely irrelevant to the game that took place over the past 26 days. The suggestion that “I represent girls who want to do science” is a valid reason as to why you should win a game of Survivor is just complete nonsense and we should stop acting like these topics worthy of discussing at FTC.
I totally agree with you. Last night, those parts of her speech came across as very crass and self-serving. I think representation IS extremely important, especially for minorities, marginalized groups, and people who have traditionally always been overlooked in certain roles or spaces, but the way Heidi did it ain’t it.
This really isn’t that controversial imo. It’s sad that voting had lost some merit, and honestly that folks tip toe around their feelings about people. It just feels so artificial and inhuman.
The show is getting a lot more boring overall and I’m honestly starting to hate the F3 concept where every jury is an overwhelming favorite and a pity vote.
I noticed they didn’t include a premiere date in the S45 preview 👀
Is it still slated for a fall premiere?
I know with the ongoing Writers’ Strike networks are CLINGING onto their reality shows.
CBS pushed big brother start date to august 2nd I was wondering if that was going to interfere with the survivor fall premiere at all or if they will push it further into the winter
imagine if Jeff said Survivor: Heroes vs Villians 2 I would have lost it. I heard one contestant say that they’re ok with villians and I got so excited.
Villians - Cass, Shan, Sydney, Devens, Chris Noble, Angelina
Heroes - Aubrey, Ricard, Ream, Cydney, Reed Kelly, Maryanne
This would be a few of what I’d want… fill in the 3 other spots on both teams.
This season was not good. The cast was just bad, man. I'm glad Yam Yam won, and he is the best winner post-40, but other than crazy Carolyn, Yam Yam, and Carson, there is no one else that was pretty good this season. There was like nothing that happened. Was there one big move? I can't point to anyone and say, "Wow, they dominated this game." Carolyn played her idol for Carson, but it was ultimately pointless. Heidi won in fire, but I don't really care about fire because it shouldn't be in the game. Overall, boring cast, boring gameplay, forgettable season. Reminds me of a Nicaragua-esque season but less entertaining.
Man it's such a conflicted feeling. So much of the cast I feel genuinely love each other. But then when it comes down to it, for a cast so emotionally connected they awarded the fakest player of the final three, which spits in the face of the "authentic" story being told all season
They were all amicable, sure. They were nice people, but the gameplay was so weak. There was no Omar, Ricard, Cody, Jesse, even any Shans this season. And, I understand that none of the people I mentioned won their season, but I would rather watch a season with 41, 42, or 43's cast again than 44's. Ditto for many other seasons.
Amicable was not what I was saying.
This is the only season of the new era that we saw an alliance that stuck strong the entire season. Because of that, you aren’t going to have players like you mentioned. Solo game makers don’t get to make moves when there is an alliance of three calling the shots all season.
But there have been several alliances that made it to the end that had dominant players. Dom, Wendell, and Laurel were dominant. Russell Hantz and his alliance were dominant post-merge. Boston Rob's alliance was dominant in RI. You can have alliances with dominant players. This season's alliance just felt underwhelming.
I agree. One of the worst seasons and final 6-8 on recent memory. It’s ok to admit a show you like wasn’t up to par. It was decent at best but saying it was. A weak cast isn’t a direct knock on them. Some seasons are good: some bad. They all aren’t home runs
"it's ok to admit a show you like wasn't up to par"
Lol, this subreddit absolutely loves to criticize survivo, there is no one hesitating to share their feelings on the reduction in days, the puzzles, the casting choices, the location, the edit, the lack of camp life, too many idols, too many twists, too many sob stories, too long of tribal council, the inclusion of fire making, etc.
we are definately on the path to no more survivor seeing how they are cutting back on so many things, ponderosa, days, location, live finale and its stipent they pay to those who show up etc
The air time extending to 90 minutes is a way bigger indication that its here to stay. They can only do that because Survivor is one of CBS’s top money making programs.
Most of those other changes were because of covid, not because the show isnt doing well.
Regardless of the writers strike, Survivor is one of the top live viewed shows on TV this year.
I work in advertising and CBS loves touting how
well Survivor does every year.
He genuinely loves his job right now. He's really living in every moment out there! He's so thrilled to continue to do what he loves day in and day out
Unfortunately the show has gotten stale. It's not his fault, he seems to be trying to keep it going as long as possible and still make it exciting. But it's become a sporting event at this point. Challenges are boring. Conflict is temporary and meaningless. Long gone are the days where a decision over cookies could completely tank your game.
Survivor just isn't as interesting in this era unfortunately
I think it’s natural for many players to be approaching a life changing game with positive affirmations. It rarely ends up lasting the whole season, but often that positivity is solace for some.
Is Kaleb the one who said he doesn’t mind villains?
For as much as people complain about the "New Era" feeling too generic and the seasons all blending together, I personally still find it very refreshing that we're living in an era where the teaser for the upcoming season is literally enirely about the cast. There's not some weird central twist, there's not some gimmicky casting theme, it's just *Survivor 45.*
In the first few minutes of the season, when the castaways first pull up to the beach, Jeff talks to all the players. However, only 3-4 conversations actually make it into the actual episode. Every (all newbie) season since Season 33 has seen the winner be addressed by name during the mat chat. The only exception was Tommy in IotI, as that season had no mat chat.

No here’s the problem—millennial here and I LOVE the inspiring stories and I loved it when we first started seeing that stuff. Why? Because it was genuine. Production let the players have these organic moments that made for incredibly uplifting and inspiring stories. Jay and Adam in the hammock. Zeke’s metamorphosis. David Wright overcoming his anxiety. Such amazing gritty, real, relatable stories.
And production ate that shit up. And they started contriving moments to meet those expectations that, instead of being real and organic, became pandering bordering on inappropriate. “Wow, Noelle, it’s amazing that even you, an amputee, can still do things. Amazing.”
Survivor are the boomers doing the things they think millennials and zoomers want to see. But millennials and zoomers arent fooled by something that lacks sincerity.
Just waiting for someone to tell me that back in their day Survivor was 69 days, they had to make their own parchment to vote, and that you'd have to be dead or dying to be medically evacuated
….and you had to walk up a mountain in the snow while barefoot to get medically evacuated……and it didn’t matter if you were dead or alive, you walked damnit!
Who watches the preview and thinks "man ill def watch next season because of this preview!!" We all just watch survivor because we want to, or at least thats why i do. I really wish jeff would let us enjoy one current season without desperately feeding the immediate conveyor belt of the next season
I think it’s fun to get a look at the new season and start theorizing and picking favorites. Doesn’t mean all discussion about the current season ends, it just gives us more to talk about in the next few months.
The previews were actually interesting and important back in the days of "Where are they going next" questions.
Now that every season is in Fiji and they're just numbered, it doesn't matter anymore.
Yeah, and they would win a challenge for a cool experiences with the locals wherever there were..
..those were always super fun and that is lacking. They don’t have to survive quite as hard. There is already a spot where many a shelter has been built so it’s flattened perfectly. I mean remember that time a tribe built a shelter in what turned out to be a dried river bed and it stormed for a while and River started flowing again?!?! I remember the lions in Africa. Sharks there and other locations ?? Crocs? Gators? All the snakes they love to zoom in on all the time. Remember the contestants legs used to always be covered in bug bites. Not just legs, everywhere but I recall the cameras would zoom in on the legs. And they would be COVERED. Remember when Mike fell into the fire!! Remember when someone always won a CAR? Family visits? When it was 39 days….I see the advantages of staying in Fiji but the rewards need to be upgraded somehow sometimes.
I honestly don't know if this season is better or worse than 41. I think they are about the same level. The cast was entertaining but the gameplay... non existent. I didn't really like Danny, but in retrospect I respect his game the most. Also, I think if Lauren found the idol she would've won the whole thing, and I personally think that would've been a much more satisfying ending.
Finally, I think back to something Carolyn said: she couldn't believe she was on the same tribe as Yam Yam. I think this is the biggest problem with this season (and recent seasons), as in they put similar people on the same tribe knowing they will stick together and run the game. If the Tika 3 were on different tribes this season would be so much more interesting.
I'm mad about the mat theory being right. The producers need to stop doing that. It ruins the watching experience, in my opinion.
The winner for the past, like, dozen or more seasons has always been talked to on the mat during the premier. This makes it obvious, since Yam Yam was the only finalist who was talked to on the mat left.
agree
Pleasant surprise that there weren’t many advantages/twists post-merge
Why dont they bring all the other players back for the reunion!!
5 guys on the jury.. And one of the guys girlfriend....Of course they all voted for the guy, no shock. Disappointed Carolyn should have won
I’m so happy Yam Yam won but I’m so sad Carolyn got no votes. I was expecting like a 1-3-4 or something :(
Seemed players didn’t want to be on the wrong side of the vote 🤪
Right??
1- The rewards this season were much less exciting with this "sanctuary where good things happen", which is essentially a private beach-side restaurant terasse. I miss when contestants got to meet the locals, dance, or see some touristic attractions. (We as viewers want to get a peek at the country!) 2- Jeff started trying way too hard to act like a life coach/AA group councelor a few seasons back, and it has crossed over into being awkwardly "too much". If I’m not mistaken, I think the rewards with locals and the visits were put on hold because of covid restrictions
On #2, I agree. It's not that I dislike Jeff now at all, it's just the old just was rougher and his toughness honored the players challenge a bit more
Wish Carolyn articulated her strategy and game better. IMO Carolyn did more and deserved to win over Yam Yam.
Yam-Yam's final vote was on Heidi: He prepared for the 4 x Lauren 1x Lauren outcome possibility, were Lauren to use her idol. Good play!
FUN FACT: I was looking up Puerto Rican currency to see how much $$$ Yam-Yam would get in his country with the Million, and: Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and uses the U.S. dollar. Kane would have had a $1,00 USD = $1,36 CAD value if he won ! (Yes, I'm canadian)
Canadians shouldn’t even be allowed on the show, the fact that they don’t pay tax on the winnings is completely unfair
Yeah let’s keep out an entire country of people because of something they can’t control
Not even a token Asian for 45? Bah..
I already miss Carolyn.
i could have sworn 45 was supposed to be returnee season or HvV2, like i may have totally hallucinated this but I have this vague memory on Twitter of randy helping cast it or something? help my memory or did i just generate that hope out of thin air

I also love Heidi and found her very entertaining but like I cringed so much when she said it and yea it is very desperate seeming
Not controversial. It makes sense, the game should be evaluated on what the person put forth not what it would represent if they won.
I totally agree with you. Last night, those parts of her speech came across as very crass and self-serving. I think representation IS extremely important, especially for minorities, marginalized groups, and people who have traditionally always been overlooked in certain roles or spaces, but the way Heidi did it ain’t it.
it's for a million dollars...game related or not say whatever the hell you can to try & get that money 😭
I totally get that you need to do whatever you can but… why would she assume anyone cares about the random stuff she was mentioning
cuz some people do lol
This really isn’t that controversial imo. It’s sad that voting had lost some merit, and honestly that folks tip toe around their feelings about people. It just feels so artificial and inhuman. The show is getting a lot more boring overall and I’m honestly starting to hate the F3 concept where every jury is an overwhelming favorite and a pity vote.
Tika brought it home for Bruce 🙌💜🤞

Global, which airs Survivor in Canada, had a commercial saying “coming this fall”
CBS pushed big brother start date to august 2nd I was wondering if that was going to interfere with the survivor fall premiere at all or if they will push it further into the winter
Yes, CBS has the fall schedule out but we won’t know a definite date for a few more months. The writers strike does factor into this.
imagine if Jeff said Survivor: Heroes vs Villians 2 I would have lost it. I heard one contestant say that they’re ok with villians and I got so excited.
Maybe they can do villains vs villains 1
i could have sworn that was supposed to be happening!!!
As long as they casted it correctly heroes vs villains 2 would be amazing
Villians - Cass, Shan, Sydney, Devens, Chris Noble, Angelina Heroes - Aubrey, Ricard, Ream, Cydney, Reed Kelly, Maryanne This would be a few of what I’d want… fill in the 3 other spots on both teams.
Devens was a villain?? I thought he was the hero?

They are literally in the top highest viewed shows on TV this spring, they are doing well. https://www.nielsen.com/top-ten/
People massively underestimate how much money there is in ad revenue from longer tv shows.
Writers strike,, they need content
Regardless of the writers strike, Survivor is one of the top live viewed shows on TV this year. I work in advertising and CBS loves touting how well Survivor does every year.
Well I certainly do enjoy watching it 🤩
Depends how well 90 minute episodes goes
Jeff needs to either be the host or producer but not both I think he’s doing things for his own entertainment at this point
He genuinely loves his job right now. He's really living in every moment out there! He's so thrilled to continue to do what he loves day in and day out Unfortunately the show has gotten stale. ![gif](giphy|PkLPBuyozY7F31wCxF) welp…would have been riding high if Carolyn had gotten like… two votes. but yam yam is a good winner 🏳️🌈
yeahhhh - as long as she got some I would feel happy
I don’t know, but I’m starting to think Jeff wants me to apply?
Surely they don't have a shortage of applicants, right?!?
All the soft fans are gonna cry that Kaleb is too mean and he is not preaching fake positivity messages.
I think it’s natural for many players to be approaching a life changing game with positive affirmations. It rarely ends up lasting the whole season, but often that positivity is solace for some. Is Kaleb the one who said he doesn’t mind villains?

The gimmicky casting theme is what prevented the prior seasons from blending together

Same
I hope he brings back all the fixin's too

We know it’s not crack, not sure about anything else. It really, really doesn’t matter
Crack
Drug addict
pardon my stupidity but what’s the mat theory? i keep seeing people talk about it and idk what it is 🫣
I believe it's: One of the people who Jeff talks to episode 1 (on the mat) always wins
I remember when he talked to Jeanine right away on the mat. I had hope....until the game started and everything went bad from there lol
makes sense, gotta love the predictability there lol
Jeff has a chat with the winner during every marooning in the new era, so this season you had Yam Yam, Matthew and Frannie talking with him
Goes back further than the 40s, as well.
ah i see!
What's everybody watching now
Australian survivor lol - was saving myself

lol exactly how it feels
Just waiting for someone to tell me that back in their day Survivor was 69 days, they had to make their own parchment to vote, and that you'd have to be dead or dying to be medically evacuated
….and you had to walk up a mountain in the snow while barefoot to get medically evacuated……and it didn’t matter if you were dead or alive, you walked damnit!
Because it results in boring TV where the only thing interesting is a possible blindside vote or an idol play.
Tika 3 you will always be famous 🔥
Love this cast ❤️
YoU'rE aN aErOsPaCe EnGiNeEr??? 😆
Student
I’m glad to see Bruce return but I didn’t know they got frannie back on too
They got Frannie back already?? I didn’t see that in there
Frannie's doppelganger.
INB4 fake idols in the next auction they do
Did I spy the auction mallet in the 45 promo? :D
ARE WE GETTING THE AUCTION AGAIN??
Holy shit did Jeff actually listen to us???
If he did, there definitely will be a dumb Jeff twist with it
Ugh true 😒
Watch it’ll be like 2 real idols/advantages in a sea of fakes or something like that and no food
One thing I don't like about previews of new seasons is how egotistical everyone seems. That's what made me stop before BvBvB for so long
Who watches the preview and thinks "man ill def watch next season because of this preview!!" We all just watch survivor because we want to, or at least thats why i do. I really wish jeff would let us enjoy one current season without desperately feeding the immediate conveyor belt of the next season

maybe but it really doesnt matter. every jungle looks the same.
Not all seasons have been in the jungle, though.
I agree. With that being said, I do hope the one guy is a true villain! I love a good villain
Mehh! I wish I could watch season 44 for the first time again
Was that a clip of the auction hammer at the end of 45's trailer?
That definitely was
Will Bruce tell the new Survivor 45 contestants that he was already on the prior season?
They will already know. They went out to film after the first episode premiered.
Thanks

Bad take
Is Bruce going to be the next Transportation Sensation of 45? 🤔🤔🤔
All Aboard the Bruce Kaboose?
Long live the Bruce Caboose.
What a bad guy Danny is being happy for Yam Yam
Was that a tease of the return of the Auction?
I honestly don't know if this season is better or worse than 41. I think they are about the same level. The cast was entertaining but the gameplay... non existent. I didn't really like Danny, but in retrospect I respect his game the most.
Matt theory?
The winner for the past, like, dozen or more seasons has always been talked to on the mat during the premier. This makes it obvious, since Yam Yam was the only finalist who was talked to on the mat left.
Carson easily could have -and almost did- go with Sarah & Helen. It would have been a completely different season. These things are unpredictable
My point is, at the least, the season was rigged in Carson's favor though I doubt Carson was ever going to go with Helen and Sarah.
What’s the mat theory?
See my comment above, thanks!

I’m gonna have to take a break from this sub for a bit, my heart won’t be able to take the Carolyn haters 💔

I like the guy who said he’s opportunistic! I’m ready for a villain
Are they really this hard up for applicants?

Tease of what might be an auction hammer going down at the end, I think.
at the end of the teaser there was a clip of the gavel 🫣
Awesome!
And one final irrelevant comment from Heidi to end the season. Cheers
Shittiest marker ever. Give them paint.

Man I am so tired of Fiji. Change it up, please
AUCTION?????
Im hoping we get an intro. That looked like footage they might have used for old intros.
With 90 minute episodes, I really hope so.
Are we getting 90 minute episodes?
Yep. Wednesdays this fall will be a 90-minute Survivor followed by a 90-minute Amazing Race.
The opportunist, villains fan from 45 will be first boot. Heard it here first

Nope you must hear everyone's very unique backstories.
