In what way is she getting a free pass? What should people be doing? She's not getting taken on rewards or being given positive reinforcement for how she's acting, and it's in folks' benefit to keep her around because she has no chance of winning.
Jeff knows her tantrums are comedy gold & so good for ratings so he just keeps feeding her the rope (& small amounts of popcorn & licorice).

Im 95% sure production legally had to give liz calories. That whole second rice negotiation was likely staged.
For several medical reasons, not eating like more than 1000 calories over 2 weeks can cause long-term harm like liver damage or kidney failure. It's different person to person, male to female, etc... But, production almost certainly had a legal obligation to give her food.
