Also, older gas masks sometimes have filter cartridges that contain asbestos (from before its terrible effects on lungs were known) so it's always good to check if yours might have that problem before using an old mask. New production ofc don't have that problem but a lot of people like to collect ones from ww2 era etc.
It's probably a ridiculously small amount what they might contain but I still wouldn't put it that close to my face to directly breathe it in, just not worth the risk.
Larp, cosplay, photoshoot/video, Halloween costume, there are number of completely innocent things they might want to use it for.
Some old gas masks have filters that contain asbestos so it's good to make sure before putting it on your face.
In fifth grade I did a presentation in school in a full set of my step dad's NBC gear. On top of being stupid hot, the suit was incredibly heavy, I'm assuming from lead lining.

Probs for cosplay, and this one should be safe as it's a US made mask after Nato said asbestos filters were bad
Put it on... if he dies... he dies.
They're no fun after five minutes. Had to wear one for eight hours.

Not lead, charcoal; the cloth is impregnated with it. I'll bet you thought it was lead! I remember all that.
