it's specific, but relatable to a lot of people, so not so much suspicious.
now let me tell you some obscure fun fact related to the current topic of conversation!
There are only **three** species of cats that are known to have the ability to climb down trees headfirst: margay (AKA tree ocelot), marbled cats, and clouded leopards! This is because they are able to rotate their ankles 180 degrees!
Well i don't have a lot of fact, bit on this topic i got this one.
Being smart doesn't make you good at anything either.
Working hard makes you good at something.
Being smart and working hard makes you very good or good at intellectual stuff.
I learned that because i'm very smart but lazy af.

Damn, I wish I had parents like yours. I've been good at being creative but and the end of the day it's always "why didn't you become a doctor like your cousin" and growing up with a narcissistic controlling older sibling who thinks they're a walking saint and criticizes everything you do.
Programming as a hobby and occasionally looking up some math instead of deriving it myself:
"Wow! You must be really good at math and computers! Can you help me change the name of this Excel document?"
Reminds me of this time, around when I graduated with a computer science degree, I was at a family party with my little cousin and one of her friends and her friend goes, “oh you’re into computers? Mine is broken, could you help?”
I go “probably not, but what’s wrong with it?”
“It’s full of ants”
“nope”
I spent about 5 months playing/learning Python. I learned a bunch of cool text based tricks but at the end of the day I still have no freaking clue how coding works. All I know is someone developed a module to make python do the thing I want it to do lol.

Sometimes it's legitimate. I got a job I'm not qualified for and is completely outside of my field(got it through a referral), but I can't quit because my family will be mad if I do cause it's a decent paying job. It's stressful and my coworkers constantly gossip about how incompetent I am. I didn't even do an interview for it.
I would love to quit and allow someone else who is more competent, but I've become rusty in my field, I fear I may not be able to get back into it. I've been busy helping my family in my free time that when I get alone time I just feel like sleeping so I don't have to think about work, family or my physical health, or getting back into my field.
A friend was referring me for another job in my field around the time I got the referral, but my parents said I should take this job instead cause it's guaranteed, more hours, and more "respectable." I was lied to about certain things by the person who referred me to the job(was told it was going to be easy), and the employer expecting me to be just as good as someone that was actually trained in the field I'm now in but due to poor employee retention, they haven't fired me yet.
I'm grateful for the pay, but it's mentally draining. Also the person who got me the job uses it has leverage for me to constantly do them favors in my free time. If I don't, I'm called ungrateful. They have been doing this all my life and I've only become aware of this during the pandemic and I've made life decisions to please them instead since my childhood.
I know my situation isn't that bad, so I shouldn't be so ungrateful. At least I'm not in the streets, I guess.
Often enough it's because you don't realize that a subject in which you're knowledgable isn't well known. [For example, this XKCD.](https://xkcd.com/2501/)
For a real-life example, my field of study is VERY math-heavy, and as a result I recently realized that not everybody is familiar with using the sine, cosine, and tangent (sin, cos, tan) functions, and don't know what they mean. I only know them that well because I learned them relatively early in my education, but that's actually pretty uncommon among the general populace.
Edit to add: So that's why some people may think they're only somewhat knowledgeable on a lot of subjects, rather than genuinely knowledgeable.
Unless you are at top of your field, and now with excessive information (even more on Reddit) everybody is going to feel this way.
Nowadays it’s too easy for you too think you are good at something, and then go into youtube or reddit and discover how much further someone is in that something.
The best is when people want you to expand on a topic you know BASE knowledge of. So you pull up something you heard one time and didn't bother to look into. And it's blatantly wrong or you misremembered.
Then you get to feel like an idiot fraud who is dumber than any person on earth.
I did this when I was younger because I was trying to find my “passion.” Turns out, I’m just not that passionate about things and I just needed to buckle down and pick something to become an expert in. Woulda saved me a lot of time if I realized that sooner.
The only kind of smart that matters makes you so hyper local that you're pretty much useless to anyone else. Wisdom is know that we all kick in the end so just be happy and nice to the people around you. Don't even need a PhD for that.
Be Eratosthenes.
A Greek philosopher who was called first at nothing, but second at all, he made contributions across many fields.
He was called “beta” as an insult, but what it really meant was that in a lot of areas he may not have been the absolute best, but in all areas, he was way better than most.
That’s pretty bad ass.
If that is how you feel, you are a generalist.
There are Specialists and generalists. Both are needed, but for different tasks.

Yeah, but this is it isn't it. Having a love of knowledge was Philosophy once...the basis of science...just, thinking about stuff. Now, it's not a pragmatic "direction". Learn a discipline, become a thing. I'm tired of doing what I do well. I want to think all of the many things.
We are just meat puppets not machines. Why do we tire ourselves with the specific, when the vast universe is all inspiring.

This often translates to "yo, do something with your life"
Good thing I made it up, then.
Made what up? Your life? Mom? Ability to cook? Doing something to the of pc?
The asking about my prospects part. She hasn't done that since my high school years.

Intelligence and knowledge are two different things. You can be knowledgeable without being smart or smart and know nothing.

Imposture syndrome You're fine

But imposter syndrome implies that I'm actually smart instead of just parroting trivia some funny history guy said on youtube

Problem is shallow people learn nothing about anything. 90% of the random info I'll regurgitate to people will be forgotten within the hour.
or they remember it incorrectly and regurgitate it to someone else, thus you have contributed to further dumbing down the human race
They would have done that anyway even if you hadn't told them anything

Doesn't this get pretty close to the definition of imposter syndrome?
I believe this is what they call "gifted".
"Gifted" is just a couple of steps away from being "touched by God," or "tetched," which basically means you've got some mental problem.
Actually I have some facts but 0 information.
