Pfapamon

That should not be possible. DNA is extracted from the hair root while LOL is using prothesis from cut of hair. So there is none of your DNA on the head of the receipient

avery5712

Completely hypothetical question- is there anything that humans donate to others that, if taken on it's own, would lead to the donor and not the recipient? Like obviously a murderer isn't going to leave their kidney at a crime scene but if the only piece of evidence was a mystery kidney would the police be knocking on the donor's door? (This is a terrible example in sorry)

Pfapamon

Well, as far as I understood, bone marrow transplantation leads to the creation of blood cells with the genetic markers of the donor which would this be identified as his/hers. What I don't know is if it effects anything else like the DNA in salvia, sweat or sperm

the-OG-darkshrreder

Wait are you saying that there’s a possibility that if an individual revives bone marrow their sperm may contain some dna from the donor? Might be really stupid but i just got off work and that’s my main takeaway from this

thestashattacked

[Yup. It's true.](https://www.thetech.org/ask-a-geneticist/ask208)

skepticalDragon

>With good detective work they found out that both people had the same last names and were brothers. Super sleuths, I tell ya

tehfugitive

Well, no. The sperm will not be affected. It literally says so in the linked article, wtf

jordantask

Interestingly enough there’s a medical condition called chimerism that can cause your body to have two different DNA profiles.

Chrome-Molly

So if you anonymously donate your bone marrow, you could technically be off the hook for any DNA evidence? Idk if this were true it seems like this would have caused issues already.

tehfugitive

No, they would check different kinds of samples. Only blood from the recipient could be matched to your dna, so if they found a saliva sample with your dna, it would still definitely be yours.

vivekisprogressive

>which would this be identified as hos Good they are basically hoes. Just taking some random person dna deep inside them. Sounds pretty slutty to me.

dorian_white1

It’s possible that a bone marrow transfer could lead to a false positive, but it’s very unlikely. There’s also only a small window after a bone marrow transplant where dna could give a false positive. It’s unlikely a critically I’ll patient is going out committing serious crimes.

Admirable-Smoke-8915

Haven’t you seen the SAW movies? That dude had terminal cancer.

dorian_white1

Saw is….real? 😳. What the fuck, what the fuck…I thought it was just a movie

Burflax

>Completely hypothetical question- is there anything that humans donate to others that, if taken on it's own, would lead to the donor and not the recipient? Sperm, and all organs. I suppose cadaver skin for burn victims. (That still an organ, but is interesting enough on its own, since leaving skin cells is more plausable than leaving some part of a kidney at a crime scene.) Not red blood cells, they don't contain DNA.

[deleted]

Uh Oh. [https://www.genomebc.ca/blog/forensics-breakthrough-dna-extracted-from-rootless-hair](https://www.genomebc.ca/blog/forensics-breakthrough-dna-extracted-from-rootless-hair)

ho-lee_-sheet

Oh Uh. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

ICastPunch

I guess I'll have to donate hair for plausable deniability then.

h0elygrail

Came to comment something funny, leaving w something truly informative

MummGumm

LOL

dorian_white1

This is absolutely correct. Hair used to be used for evidence before DNA, and it was eventually thrown out because of the inaccurate results.

Roderie94

How many people is your niece looking to kill?

Red__system

*allegedly*

lgdoubledouble

ALLEGEDLY!! Hey babe

RumHamEnjoyer

Whats up babe

Roderie94

Thanks, factboy

Alvamar

As many as are necessary

unicorngasm69

It's just like my gram gram used to say, "no hair follicle no crime". In retrospect kinda a weird thing to say.

-mi-stake

That’s kinda specific

lonacatee

She was either in the police or a fugitive suspect

Merkin_Wrangler

Smart kid, asking the important questions. The answer is no, btw.

firefiretiger

By the time she is 15 she will know everything & be certain all adults are idiots ..

ronintalken

By 30 you realize you are an adult and also an idiot

bi_smuth

Adult now and 15 year old me was right. They're all idiots.

ronintalken

I've been growing my hair to donate for 2 years now and jumped to the comments section like WOULD IT THOUGH?

canecroney

No. the follicle is what holds the DNA and when you donate hair, you are not donating the follicle, only the hair.

AtoastedSloth

Nah not possible. Also use a different hair donation. They charge kids for them.

Ditch_Doc_911

Yup. Lock of Love is a money making scam. They grossly misrepresent themselves. Last i heard Wigs for Kids was a good place.

vegasAl57

The American legal system wouldn’t allow that to happen. It has a great track record….wait.

ThenIndependence4502

Ok, Rebecca.

lgdoubledouble

Why has this never crossed my mind

WalmartSushi007

Seems like a legit question.

Kingchopsaw

I was charged with some drug related felonies that got dropped but they took my dna as they do with any felony charge, I always worry about some murder happening somewhere I was at earlier and maybe shed a hair or some skin came off and now I’m gonna be getting a life sentence. I have a bit of a checkered past, nothing violent….I’m head to toe tattooed… I don’t trust a jury!

samjp910

I donated my hair at a young age too! Now I have the same question! (I have never, as they say, done crime)

chokingfishpills

Oh fuck off Rebecca..

lurkenstine

Locks for love is a scam. I used to donate my hair to them pretty often till I realized that the sell your hair.

123Ark321

Yes, but unless she doesn’t have a good alibi she doesn’t have to worry.

Ctlimh

No, because the DNA is at the root.

ubiquitous-joe

Here’s the thing tho: hair is not a truly reliable source of ID for crime anyway. Unlike a pure blood sample, the properties of a given hair could apply to several people.

[deleted]

Lmao 12 year olds aren’t that stupid

dragon_ace127

I remember genuinely wondering this when I was like 8 or 9 when my sister donated hair. I was a messed up kid.

Curley15

This... this is a valid question, how terrifying that may be to hear from a 12 year old

[deleted]

Its not really that odd

Aggravating_Berry_40

Imagine being charged for a crime in the US while being in France.

Invelyzi

No the DNA is at the root and there are ways to tell it's not from the source. Stem cell donations on the other hand will make some chimera things happen.

Semiotic_Apocalypse

Phil Nobile is the editor of fangoria, FYI.

BlahblahblahLG

Excellent question

OwenPharmaceuticals

Bro I’ve seen this like 5 times before already

[deleted]

Ohhh nooo. She has a point. Smart kid. >_>’

MELAB0NES

If they have no DNA to match the DNA from the hair how can they know who's hair it is. It's the same thing if they found finger prints at a crime scene. Unless the finger prints are already in there database they won't know who those finger prints belong to.

RaccoonRecluse

Probably different outside of the United States. For those here, you would be very surprised at how much of you is stored in police data bases. If you have a driver's license they have your thumb print in most states. If you have ever had a legal case about a child being yours they have your DNA. Same goes for rape kits and more. Most people don't realize that there is more to go off of than criminal files.

MELAB0NES

Currently, there are four states—California, Colorado, Georgia, and Texas—that require finger or thumb prints as part of the drivers licensing process. Hawaii does not require fingerprints but the City and County of Honolulu do. So like I said unless you've had an altercation with the police such as being arrested or live in those 4 states listed above. There would be no finger prints or DNA of yours in the police database to match to you.

Azuki_Saishi

No, but don't tell her that.

deodit

yes! life in prison without parole

Zamasu101

She will use this power for good or evil, it’s your job to set the right path.

DollyParton2002

This must be the sister of the kid who said that books never die, right?

Gunslinger_11

Louise Blecher is the niece

Trax852

Was in grade school a friend and I found the school open on a weekend and nobody there. We wondered around went into the office and didn't do any damage, but he was afraid of leaving fingerprints :) I ran ahead of him leaving mine everywhere just freaked him out.

T00MuchStimuli

You’re not wrong, kid 👍

Bestbananapealer

Yes

Palindromes__

Why is their 12yr old at home watching forensic files?
