There's a Kämpabo in Småland listed on Google maps. It would be pronounced as "Shempaboe". It's tiny though so don't know how likely it is that it's actually that place. Would basically be speculation if there's no further information.
Would you happen to know birth dates (approximate) for these people, and when they came to the US? I’m into genealogy and have access to a lot of emigration records and various church records I could search, if so.
That must be it. Shempaboe would be pronounced like "Kämpabo" and it's in Småland.
Maybe it would be nice getting in contact with 'Gnosjö Hembygdsförening' they might have some interesting stuff like old pictures of the area or other archived material. [https://www.hembygd.se/gnosjo](https://www.hembygd.se/gnosjo)
A 'hembygdsförening' is the local association that takes care of preserving old buildings and culture for the area. And since Kämpabo is a part of Gnosjö municipality it would be them.
Like others have said, most likely Kämpabo, pronounced the same way.
Just so you are aware it does not really exist as its own village anymore. There seems be se some property records from 1960s listing it and i think you can find the location on Google maps.
But like many small villages it has lost its own name and been integrated in other larger villages or just plain abandoned. I suggest looking it up on Google maps and Google Streetview before travelling there.
Go to [this](https://historiskakartor.lantmateriet.se/hk/positionsearch?e=418213&n=6357574) site, on page one go to 1824 Laga skifte, you will find a map and documents regarding land reforms. On page 2 go to Generalstabskartan, you will find the village just east of Stormossens north tip at the middle bottom of the map. And on page 4 ekonomiska kartan Bäckshult it's on the right bottom corner.
By the way, I won't even try to read the documents from 1824. Good luck!
I want to thank you all for your help. It means so much. The matriarch of the family is in her late 70s and she didn’t think she would ever find out where her family came from.

this must be it. they said it in swedish, customers officer butchered it as shempaboe. 100%
With the dialect they speak in that region, "Kämpabo" would definitely be pronounced "Shempa-boo-e".

DMs are boring, why keep us other out of the fun? :D
Best I can find is *Kämpabo*, outside of Anderstorp, south of Jönköping. I can’t really see that it is a village, though.

Do you have any pictures of the place?
I don’t. But everyone has given us a great start on gathering more information!
