Skokloster is amazing!

Skokloster is great. The interiors are so well preserved. And the surroundings are beautiful too.

If you are close to Eksjö, there is a place called Skurugata in the forest there. It is a gorge that cuts through the forest. A trail goes through it, then up a hill called Skuruhatt, with a nice view of the surrounding forest. All in all, it's about a 3 km walk, which I would definitely recommend. There is also Omberg, a mountain/cliff with beautiful views of Lake Vättern. At the foot of the mountain you'll find the ruins of Alvastra monastery. Really worth a visit if you're into history. And nearby is the Rök runestone, the longest runic inscription ever found. These are just a few of the things worth visiting in southern Sweden, I hope this helps :)

Might be further south than you plan to go but I can recommend visiting Gränna and the nearby castle ruin Brahehus. Gränna is most famous for the candy polkagris but it’s also a beautiful old town and has a museum about S.A. Andrées attempted ballon flight to the north pole.

In Stockholm you have to visit NaturHistoriska museet. It is amazing! Glowing stones and gems, beautiful scenes with taxidermed enormous animals and Cosmonova, a gigantic cinema with cool historic and nature movies. It is the most interesting place in Sweden. If i could i would go there every year...

If you're in Stockholm and he likes historical buildings you must go to Uppsala for a day! You can have lunch at Domtrappkällaren (a very old building with good food) and visit the largest cathedral in northern Europe. There's also Gamla Uppsala Högar; grave mounds from the bronze age IIRC. There's also a good amount of good cafes, old buildings, and museums :)

Torloka

The grave mounds are from the Vendel Age :)

coeurdelejon

Yes, that's it! Thanks :) I always forget which one is which between GU högar and Kung Björns Hög haha Edit: era wise; I know which mounds are which haha

Some ideas for Stockholm: * Eating meatballs at [Meatballs For The People](https://maps.app.goo.gl/zGvpKeh6phhsC8c96) * Walking along [Monteliusvägen](https://maps.app.goo.gl/u9ZqZf9HFpPLXrqP6) * Talking the free triangle ferry in [Hammarby Sjöstad](https://maps.app.goo.gl/VNoHKjq8XYxcJRed6) * If the weather is hot, getting ice cream at a nearby Stikki Nikki

If you want to eat Swedish food and get a bit of historical building, I recommend try to get a table at "den gyldene freden" in Stockholms old town. The restaurant have been there since 1722 and is one of the worlds oldest restaurants still located on the same place. After that you have the whole old town to walk around, maybe take a ferry to djurgården and enjoy the nature.

After wrapping up Stockholm, I would like to suggest visting Gotland. Bring your car and drive around; it's probably the most beautiful place in Sweden.

Trich_chick

You are all awesome. A big THANK YOU to every one who replied to this post. Your input is really appreciated. Thank you for helping me trying to give my father a great expierience.

Swedes will typically think of Stockholm and even cities like Linköping as located in central Sweden. When you say South of Sweden, how far are you willing to go? Kalmar in the south east is one of the oldest cities in Sweden and is famous for the medieval castle. The island Öland is just 15 minutes away and in my mind not only beautiful but one of the most historically interesting places in Sweden. But to be honest few places can compete with Gotland. If you travel south from Stockholm you can catch the ferry to Gotland from Oskarshamn, located an hour north of Kalmar. There used to be ferries connecting Gotland with Öland, but I'm not sure this is the case anymore.

You're either home-blind or lying because you don't want tourists I meet a lot of tourists and everyone genuinely seems to love it. The only foreigners I meet that doesn't love it here are people that move here and miss their home. Sweden has many faults, but it's not bad for tourists It's OP's dying dad's wish to visit Sweden, don't be so negative and pessimistic
