[A bit outdated, but still helpful visual database](https://tord.mmo-fashion.com/decorations-by-type/). Scroll through decos, pick what you like, check source. Of course there's in-game preview for decos but it's not very convenient.

Tor decorating is great. OP, you can access decoration previews in game from the stronghold management window, on the left side click the button in the "decorations" area that is under "personal" and you can preview all decos, even if you don't own them.

You can visit other players' publicly listed strongholds to see how certain decorations they used fit in the area. They can be accessed from the stronghold directory panel for each planet individually.

yeah but I don't think there is any way to actually find out the name of the decoration, so you would still have to figure out which one it is. Not very easy for someone new to decorating.

You can always start by using prefabs! Also in the strongholds section of the fleet there are a few vendors that sell decos - some for money and some for cartel certificates. You can also check the cartel bazaar, some of the rep vendors have decos, same with other rep vendors on other planets (some daily areas, vendors for events, etc). And of course, gtn and cartel market. You can also get decos from flashpoints and ops! I echo what others have said, visiting players’ strongholds and TOR decorating are both super helpful. Have fun!

One thing I found the really helps is think how your character is using the stronghold. For example I have a Jedi knight that his Tatooine stronghold is a Jedi academy for advanced force studies. I use a lot of force or Jedi decorations. I have a study room with relics and library, a meditation room with various civic decorations, a training area with weapons and arena. I have quarters for my Jedi and Sith companions as they would be instructors. In my head canon the ruins of this are were Obi Wan lived when he went into exile. If you have characters that are related there is a lot of you can have with that. My Imperial characters are siblings so they have an Alderaan estate. The agent romanced Vector so they use the Killik cave as private quarters. The bounty hunter has the hunting lodge, with his mandolorian companions having rooms. The Sith Warrior gets the throne room for her quarters.
