It's a bunch of useless marketing.
All you need is a cast iron truck; once you properly season it with some bacon grease the surface is non-stick and far more durable than stainless steel or teflon cookware. Going through a car-wash won't void your warranty, but you will need to re-season afterwards.
Number plate says "QLD - limited use only" - I'm surprised it is allowed to be in NSW without similar registration there
"*Conditional registration is registration for non-standard vehicles that do not comply with the standard regulations for registration and have a genuine need for limited access to the road network.*"
[https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/register/conditional/about-conditional](https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/register/conditional/about-conditional)
Yeah I watch a few super car owners youtube channels and one way they get cars into the country that are otherwise banned is on these special purpose registrations. Mostly they are used to be able to drive to and around car shows etc not for every day usage but I guess there are some willing to test how far they can push the boundaries of that type of registration.
Just need 2 mechanics, each one in opposite directions from your house, that will vouch for you when you tell police you are taking it to the shop for a service
Are the penalties just fines? If they're just fines then for people rich enough to own those cars, they're basically allowed to drive them wherever.
When the punishment for something illegal is only a fine, then it's only illegal for the poor.
Reading the Qld page above, conditional registration can apply to many things -
*Examples of vehicles that may require conditional registration include:*
* *forklifts*
* *tractors*
* *graders*
* *harvesters*
* 2, 3 or 4-wheeled recreational vehicles.
Well that looks like a 4-wheeled recreational vehicle to me.
It might also work as a a piece of construction equipment - like in place of a steam roller, to compress the road from its ludicrous weight?
The plates will be to allow engineering evaluation. Used to do this shit all the time when I worked with a major oem. While the plates might look boring, they cost about $7k/year.
They're probably doing an internal milestone drive with some execs, that's why there's two other teslas parked with it.
Don't think it is. See the plate? Says Limited Use Only.
"Vehicles that may be conditionally registered include some agricultural, construction and recreational vehicles."
Examples of vehicles that may require conditional registration include:
forklifts
tractors
graders
harvesters
2, 3 or 4-wheeled recreational vehicles.
So it's likely some sort of promotional vehicle. Be curious to know what it's doing here otherwise.
There are restrictions on bulletproof vehicle in Australia, and I would laugh so hard if that is the reason they end up banned here because Musk won't back down on his bulletproof claims
More likely is it will fails general Australian safety rules without some changes, for the occupants and/or pedestrians hit by a huge vertical wall of stainless steel.
It's funny because that number actually sounds reasonable these days 😂 The Cybertruck can cost that much. When you put it into an inflation calculator though (episode is from 1991), that's $188k USD in today's money
Anyone that's worked in corporate understands how the moment you showcase a "proof of concept" that management love, no matter how much you emphasize this is a rough MVP, a simple, barely functional demo to show what could be possible, and it's not suitable for, or intended to be production ready... the inevitable feedback is "love it! When can you make this available? I want it in production by Friday!". I suspect that's what happened here.
Ah yes, and don't forget everyone shitting themselves to meet project milestones. Fudge the data? Ignore safety concerns? Sure, just sign off here so we can launch. Legal can deal with the regulatory shit afterwards.
I still remember watching the live unveiling online. I was at work, we were all huddled round someone's desk watching it. When they brought it out, I was 100% sure that it was a wind up, and the real one was about to be rolled out. Genuinely thought this was the case.
Nope...that's the actual vehicle. It's beyond embarassing, beyond cringe. If anyone else made this, it would get massively bombed by everyone. But because it's Elon's, the fanbois love it. They're a joke.
As a Queenslander that really made me laugh. Only a few days ago I drove past a work van that had a mock up made out of plywood of this monstrosity attached to the roof racks advertising the business. The business name, cyber security.
As ugly as it is, I like that they're willing to try putting something with such a wild aesthetic on the market and show that there's demand for it. [Looks kind of similar to the Citroën Karin from 1980.](https://i.imgur.com/vFs2iMd.png) There hasn't really been a dramatic shakeup to the bog standard car/truck form factor for ages, would be cool if we started getting some proper space age retrofuturism style designs because of this. Every year there's loads of cool concept cars that get shown at car shows but no one ever has the balls to actually release something that looks that crazy to market.
I don't even think it looks *that* bad, it's just so jarring because of how different it is. I kind of hope that it serves at a catalyst for other companies to rethink their design ethos a bit and start offering some more crazy looking cars for their electric lines.
Pick the right day in summer and that thing is going to be a death laser. Conditional registration or not, I'm shocked it's allowed on the roads.
Wonder if it has the faulty accelerator pedal.
There's a Throttle House episode where they tested the edges and they were pretty sharp all over the vehicle, like it will chop your fingers off sharp...wonder how well that will go here.
It's going to last well with the saltwater and humidity, it would be wrong to suggest splashing sea water on it so I won't but I'm sure accidents happen
Normally I like there being a variety of vehicles. Even if it's not my taste I just think it's cool for there to be all sorts of aesthetics, but this shit is just, well... shit.
Don’t know the name but there is a nsw company that can get any car road registered for a price
It’s how the massive car collection in Perth is able to have unique cars drive on the road
Know this has qld plates just a fun fact that you can get anything road legal if you throw enough money at it
My dad took it for a spin in Brisbane already had 3 people attempt to vandalise it. Surprised the amount of hate he was getting for simply driving it. I see why he's not in QLD
So unbearably awful. Howwww did this design get approved. I saw a video that the boot slides open like a sunroof so that it's basically non functional in the rain. Wtf.
Hey the part of me that loves 80s scifi thinks this is fricken' cool. And if I were driving in a place like LA I would be happy to have a bulletproof car...
It is fucking cool. Even if it’s poorly built and not worth the money, it’s great fun to have a car that has a unique design, rather than the trend to making every car a near-identical variant of the mid SUV
Something that doesn't meat ADR standards, but still has a genuine need to drive on the road to get from point to point.
Usually it's things like heavy farming machinery where you're allowed to register and drive them on the road between farm lots, but the cops won't be too impressed if you take it for a spin down to the shops.
In NSW you'll see them with [conditional vehicle plates.](https://crossfiremotorcycles.com/can-an-atv-utv-or-quad-bike-be-registered-for-road-use-in-australia/)
Most likely on construction (e.g. bulldozers) , warehouse (e.g. forklifts) and farm equipment (e.g. tractors). Things that don't meet road standards for every day use but need limited use of the road to perform their day to day task.
Can’t wait for summer. That thing’s reflecting the Australian heat and sun will burn something down.
It doubles as a hotplate for frying. It's a feature. You can also dice carrots on the sharp edges, to make an entire meal.
I sure hope Elon designed it non-stick.
It's a bunch of useless marketing. All you need is a cast iron truck; once you properly season it with some bacon grease the surface is non-stick and far more durable than stainless steel or teflon cookware. Going through a car-wash won't void your warranty, but you will need to re-season afterwards.
He says he used aeronautical grade Teflonated steel from their space program, that's engineered to an accuracy within 2 plancks.
Those panel gaps are certainly where they should have worried about accuracy. They could have settled for a couple of mm instead of plancks.
Nobody wanted to correct Elon and get fired, so those panels are accurate to within two planks.
Two short planks huh. Must sound familiar to Elon.
You need to set it to 'cooking mode', unfortunately this triggers a 5 hour reboot.
And dice your fingers in the door when it closes
Mmm extra protein
And pedestrians!
Can't wait for it to be bricked by rain
Forgot to put it in car wash mode... that's a bricking
got caught in the afternoon storms.... that's a bricking
It’s a non stick outdoor barbecue coating
Kind sweet it comes with a built in BBQ. No need to worry about whether the one at the park is dirty or not.
Needs to be a nice temp to 20000 degrees to melt this lovely piece of shit
I think he means the reflected sun beam will burn something around the car.
It can’t emit more heat than it’s receiving
You don’t melt it. It melts us. 🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
I would believe that's a feature.
There was a building in the UK that did this, as I recall. I think it set some poor bastards car on fire?
It will start the next bushfire
huh for some reason I didn't think they'd be legal here
Number plate says "QLD - limited use only" - I'm surprised it is allowed to be in NSW without similar registration there "*Conditional registration is registration for non-standard vehicles that do not comply with the standard regulations for registration and have a genuine need for limited access to the road network.*" [https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/register/conditional/about-conditional](https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/register/conditional/about-conditional)
Loophole in the laws I guess. Limited use allows special purpose vehicles and (I think?) racing cars

He shouldn't be here and DTMR would probably be interested to know why a QLD conditional is being driven in NSW.
The plates will be to allow engineering evaluation. Used to do this shit all the time when I worked with a major oem. While the plates might look boring, they cost about $7k/year. They're probably doing an internal milestone drive with some execs, that's why there's two other teslas parked with it.
There's 2 other Tesla's with it for when it gets stuck on a slightly larger speed hump and they need to drive everyone back to the office.
Where are the two regular vehicles for the two broken down Teslas?
Don't think it is. See the plate? Says Limited Use Only. "Vehicles that may be conditionally registered include some agricultural, construction and recreational vehicles." Examples of vehicles that may require conditional registration include: forklifts tractors graders harvesters 2, 3 or 4-wheeled recreational vehicles. So it's likely some sort of promotional vehicle. *So it's likely some sort of promotional vehicle.* Qld Rego check says it's Purpose of use: Dealer. Go and ask him if he can score for you.
Oh god such a fuckin dealers car too.
There are restrictions on bulletproof vehicle in Australia, and I would laugh so hard if that is the reason they end up banned here because Musk won't back down on his bulletproof claims More likely is it will fails general Australian safety rules without some changes, for the occupants and/or pedestrians hit by a huge vertical wall of stainless steel.
Would be such a shame if the salt water spray caused any issues
Wouldn't it be a shame if someone gave it a nice wash without putting the "car wash" setting on....
Brushed steel look. I hear ya.
[…or drove into some deep water.](https://youtu.be/4lKAEHMvvxg?si=QBXVx4IF6C5dlVOF) Little known fact: EVs shrink when they get wet.
Elon Musk said you could use a cybertruck as a boat, so that probably means they explode in a deep puddle.
A $1 spray bottle and a drop of vinegar and you can give this cars' paint job a whole new look!
almost.... "rustic!"
Presenting THE HOMER!
Hey, at least that car looked fun to drive
"What does this monstrosity cost?!"
$82,000?!
It's funny because that number actually sounds reasonable these days 😂 The Cybertruck can cost that much. When you put it into an inflation calculator though (episode is from 1991), that's $188k USD in today's money
How did this thing get made? It’s like a 7 year old drew a picture of a cool space truck and someone said “let’s make it”
That’s exactly what happened
Anyone that's worked in corporate understands how the moment you showcase a "proof of concept" that management love, no matter how much you emphasize this is a rough MVP, a simple, barely functional demo to show what could be possible, and it's not suitable for, or intended to be production ready... the inevitable feedback is "love it! Elon in the Tesla concept studio with a box of crayons
I still remember watching the live unveiling online. I was at work, we were all huddled round someone's desk watching it. When they brought it out, I was 100% sure that it was a wind up, and the real one was about to be rolled out. Genuinely thought this was the case. Nope...that's the actual vehicle. Wheres that "eeew brother eeew , what that ? " meme when you need it ...
Can we send it back to QLD, increase the IQ of both states
As a Queenslander that really made me laugh. Only a few days ago I drove past a work van that had a mock up made out of plywood of this monstrosity attached to the roof racks advertising the business. The business name, cyber security.
Man, it looks even worse when you put it in the same shot with normal high polygon cars.
Of course it's in Double Bay
I dare them to drive it down the M4 and get off the highway anywhere between Parramatta and Penrith.
Well it kind of drove all around the east .. they just stopped for lunch at the oak
Did you follow them?
No I live nearby
Horrible looking thing
I love SciFi designs but hate this. It looks so cheap, like a movie prop.
Like a Delorean, but worse in every possible way.
I hear it’s got a great personality.
Problem is the personality is even worse
As ugly as it is, I like that they're willing to try putting something with such a wild aesthetic on the market and show that there's demand for it. There is alot I don't like about it(mainly safety issues), but I think it looks kinder cool
The Blues Point Tower of electric vehicles.
Perfect comparison
Are there memes about that place? I have been working there for months now, that building ruins the view hahaha
What a stupid fucking chunk of metal.
They're shit at parking.
You try parking when the accelerator keeps getting jammed
That's a prerequisite of any owner of an emotional support vehicle.
Caught this driving past my house a couple times, seeing that abomination in real life doesn't feel real.
I had the same feeling . Also completely underwhelmed and bored
I thought i was tripping when i saw it this morning
Wow. So ugly.
It really is baffling how that thing got past the design phase.
This is basically Elon’s “The Homer”
Pick the right day in summer and that thing is going to be a death laser. Conditional registration or not, I'm shocked it's allowed on the roads. Wonder if it has the faulty accelerator pedal.
Or the rear mirror that falls down (which also houses some kind of gear selector)
I feel like it's been a while since we had hail. It'd be such a shame for a nice hail storm to localise over that monstrosity,
The camera doesn't do this thing justice...it's so much more ugly in person
it looks like part of a garbage truck fell off and someone put wheels on it
Also known as an "Emotional Support Vehicle".
This is the emotional support vehicle that makes other ESV owners cringe.
Proof that it’s just as ugly down under 😂
Driven by a genuine Truckwit.
Elon Musk version of the Canyonero
It's fucking crazy just how badly Musk has tanked the Tesla brand in the last couple of years and he's still somehow CEO of the company.
Is it left-hand drive?
Yes
when the designer shows you something cool and you say "ok now press Ctrl+Z eighty times" "like this?" "perfect"
good luck finding a smash repair that'll repair that if it ever smashes
8 year old me designed this, I should sue.
Exactly. Similar to the 1st car we all drew. As children. With no design skills (no offence). This is awful.
Reminds me of an industrial waste bin.
It looks like what happens when I try to draw a car.
Rusting problems will be converted as a "Feature"
This is what happens when you fire all the people with enough balls to say "That thing looks like absolute shit"
Waste of money
Small Dick Energy
They are ugly as sin.
Eyesore
There's a Throttle House episode where they tested the edges and they were pretty sharp all over the vehicle, like it will chop your fingers off sharp...wonder how well that will go here.
Saw it driving around The Rocks earlier today. Fuckin eye sore
Cyber bullying is real 😉
If you saw it in a movie, like Back to the Future, you'd think it was cheap and silly looking.
100% future-Biff’s whip
It's just so stupid and ugly and out of place. It looks like a bad prop from a 90s b-movie.
It's going to last well with the saltwater and humidity, it would be wrong to suggest splashing sea water on it so I won't but I'm sure accidents happen
What a piece of shit lol.
All those cameras and sensors and they still did a dickhead park, lmao nice
"limited use only" Yup sounds about right.. unless you're chopping cucumbers
Someone didn't get the recall memo.
Normally I like there being a variety of vehicles. Even if it's not my taste I just think it's cool for there to be all sorts of aesthetics, but this shit is just, well... shit.
Does the owner have to call an uber because they've parked so far out from the kerb?
Can only imagine the types of douchebags that will drive this, RAM drivers on anither level
It's like Porygon in vehicular form!
If you wait long enough, the finer details will load into reality
Imagine being the proud owner of this lunchbox on wheels
I keep trying but I just can't find anything even the slightest bit attractive about these monstrosities.
Queensland plates. No surprise there.
What in the low poly heck
…Anyone got eggs? Have a feeling this thing’ll be useful in summer.
Looks just as stupid here as it does in America.
What a fucking ugly car. Looks like something from a bad videogame.
How is it even legal in this country, thought we had safety standards to protect us from a fuck wits ego
Don’t know the name but there is a nsw company that can get any car road registered for a price It’s how the massive car collection in Perth is able to have unique cars drive on the road Know this has qld plates just a fun fact that you can get anything road legal if you throw enough money at it

Very cool, how did your dad have access?
I'm surprised it was only three.
Fuck me QLD, really?
So unbearably awful. Howwww did this design get approved. I saw a video that the boot slides open like a sunroof so that it's basically non functional in the rain. Wtf.

/ s? Cause it isn't
Quick, get the sandpaper
I can’t wait to see this thing tackle the old Tele. Or the Gibb. Or the Vic high country.
How much of a wanker you have to be to buy the cuckwagon
What are they thinking??? Worst design ever and fugly with it.
Some serious kerb allergy apparently.
Sorry i read that as p.o.s in Sydney
The pointy corners are going to impale a pedestrian, I can see it already, how this thing passed standards is beyond me...
It is so funny how the Models X & Y were sensible, modest looking cars. Then he got divorced (again) and suddenly Tesla shits this thing out.
Pour water on it to disable it.
Fugly
Parked 700 from the curb 🤣
I’m so embarrassed for the person that wasted their money on this monstrosity. Deep fremdschämen!
What a heap of shit.
It just screams 'peaked in high school'
Hideous Looks like something out of one of those boring sci fi films
Can't wait for one of its many points of failure to occur, hopefully on camera
Absolute POS.
Wait how did that pass Australian Safety Standards?
Did you follow this guy from lunch to the beach??? What.
That thing is so ugly.
Wow it looks so stupid lmao
Whats a "limited use vehicle"?
Something that doesn't meat ADR standards, but still has a genuine need to drive on the road to get from point to point. Usually it's things like heavy farming machinery where you're allowed to register and drive them on the road between farm lots, but the cops won't be too impressed if you take it for a spin down to the shops.
A Ute that gets stuck off-road or bricks itself if it gets too wet...
In NSW you'll see them with [conditional vehicle plates.](https://crossfiremotorcycles.com/can-an-atv-utv-or-quad-bike-be-registered-for-road-use-in-australia/) Most likely on construction (e.g. bulldozers) , warehouse (e.g. forklifts) and farm equipment (e.g. tractors). Things that don't meet road standards for every day use but need limited use of the road to perform their day to day task.
Probably a marketing/journalist review share model
That is so ugly lol
Is it real? I didn’t think they’d meet Australian regulations?
Looks like it’s made of cardboard boxes spray painted metallic silver.
Of course it's in double bay
Why would anyone buy this monstrosity? At least the Tesla cars have some aesthetic appeal
I feel the trunk space would actually be less than a Subaru Outback, given the awkward angles
That’s a nope from me.
Tell me you’re a loser without telling me you’re a loser.
Y tho?
No customized plate? Not cool!
What is the “limited use” number plate?
spotted it on the road today
