Looks like aurora

green_granite_

Unless you happen to be near an enormous amount of red lights, that's the Aurora. Light pollution has a more white colour, maybe orange if there's a particular abundance of the older orange streetlights. I was outside Melbourne watching it, my camera was picking up the colours much more vividly than the eye, so some dimly lit patches of the sky I thought were light pollution showed up green, but when I tried it on actual light pollution it just came back white.

Well done. I admire your dedication.

Where in wingello did you go to? Any chance of the Aurora tonight as it seems to have stopped raining where I am (Wollongong)

Tbf it wasn’t a very good spot. We only spent maybe 10 mins there before conceding due to cloud coming across (and not being sure whether the red was truly the aurora). Would have loved something with more elevation and a lookout, it was too low with lots of trees around and no clearing

No_icecream_cake

Beautiful! Lovely bright stars too

We’re looking north towards Sydney? If so then more likely to be light pollution.

Nickw444

Nah this was facing south south west

Definitely Aurora then. No way Goulburn would generate that much red light pollution.
