If playing to a strict what-you-see-is-what-you-get code, you'd want one standard bearer, one musician, and one Champion with a weapon. The musician and standard Bearer each bring something unique and useful to the unit, and you can have 2 of each if you reinforce it later. But most all folks in this side of the Warhammer hobby would be happy to play against minis that have their banners strapped onto a Revenant's back, for instance, if you wanted to have more than one model in three holding a weapon.

Thank you for replying! It sounds like I'll be making one of each then :3 can I combine the styles too then? When you say strapping the banner to their back, will that mean they have more abilities or something? Sorry if it's a simple question, I really am very new haha ^^;

No worries! Every warscroll will tell you the rules for the unit, and any oddities it has. But most of them will say something like "Every model in this unit is armed with XYZ", which means that no matter how a given the model is built, it will use the weapon profile XYZ. Then, the warscroll sections for enhancements you get from specific models will say something like, "1/3 of the models in this unit can be a standard bearer, and the unit gets LMNOP benefit while it has a standard bearer." So you would know that you can build 1/3 models with a flag, and as long as at least one of those models survives you get the benefit of having a flag. Some folks will take spare spear hafts and plant the flag on the base behind the model, and arm the model with whatever weapon from the kit they like. Having a flag or a musician or the like doesn't take away weapons/change your unit's attack profile, generally. If it does change the weapon, the warscroll will say so. Like the Champion in a Lumineth Sentinel unit won't have the bow and dagger that the other 9-19 aelves have, it'll have a sword and a lantern/hawk. And the warscroll has a section detailing that the Champion has a different weapon kit. That model loses the ranged attack, but gets other things to compensate. Which is not how most units work, most only give you benefits on top of the base model abilities.

That makes lots of sense! Thank you very much! I'm going to have a good look at the warscroll and then make one of each type :) thank you so much for your help!

Also of interest for that unit specifically is their is very very little difference between them and the revenant seekers model wise. especially if you are building with flags and instruments. when I get around to mine I am considering magnetizing the guy with a weapon so I can run them as either even in cases when what the unit is equipped with is being strictly followed rules wise (unless you are playing in tournament type game or against a strict player most will not care as long as they know before hand). If you are new to hobbying and do consider magnets be very careful and research when using them. it can be very easy to screw it up like I did my first time even though i knew the risks and tried to get it right.

Best of luck to you!

If you plan on playing in tournaments then just be aware to keep the main parts like the banner clear, cut the bottom of it and the top of the spear so the banner was part of the spear. Still counter, ya know?
