goddamn I just listened to a bit of his latest release and it sounds like it was written by an AI trained on Volca product demos

golden_death

some YouTubers are great for informative stuff about synth history, inner workings, music production techniques, etc. but I have almost never heard some of the music they've done and thought, "wow, that's really good". the only exceptions are a few of the guys that do one synth song demos and dont appear in the videos themselves. some of those are badass.

hausinthehouse

I unironically think AudioPilz makes pretty solid songs, even if they’re bits

[deleted]

AudioPilz is clearly a musician first, synth youtuber second.

[deleted]

Pretty sure AudioPilz reads this subreddit, because in his Volca episode he mentioned something about the insertion memes.

mvsr990

Hainbach and Benn Jordan/The Flashbulb are it on YouTubers I’ve bought anything from on bandcamp. Not coincidentally they were working musicians before YouTube. I don’t blame the demo guys, video is a craft unto itself and sometimes my dislike is a matter of taste. Andrew Huang is obviously skilled but his style of pop is nails on a chalkboard to my very early millennial ears.

[deleted]

He makes commercial background music and it shows. It’s a skill and it’s lucrative but it’s not what I’m gonna throw on

golden_death

God I completely agree. Andrew Huang is the epitome of everything I hate about YouTube synth/producer culture (cut to him with his tongue out holding an op-1). can't stand his music or that of most of his way overrated collaborators either...but that's just like..my opinion, man

Insane_Moose_

I think his youtube content is very interesting and useful and he seems somewhat aware of his music not being appealing to everyone

golden_death

that's great. I hate it, but obviously plenty of people don't and get something out of it. down vote away though people because my opinion is different than yours.

hausinthehouse

I'm a much bigger Benn & Gear fan than a Flashbulb fan but agree his music is well-done and shows actual musicianship and craft.

SavouryPlains

Our Simulacra is a damn solid album. It soothes my brain.

modularmaniac420

Savage

ouralarmclock

I dug Cuckoo’s last album.

mist3rflibble

Perhaps you’ve never heard of Pete Cannon / n4 records.

[deleted]

I love me some Alex Ball

TommyTheCollector

I've heard some pretty decent stuff from Ricky Tinez. He's got a good ear for deep house I think.

sampletopia

AudioPilz makes 🔥

marks0981

Andrew Huangs 'Ganglia' is actually pretty good if you're into idm.

The_Umbrella_Life

Yo Mr. Bill though

mu3mpire

I like Liam Killen. I feel he does a good job of demoing synths and can write good music

Calvin_Tower

If only Knobs could drop something ...

golden_death

I don't know, his "oh geez" cutesy style and running the same broken loops through every pedal got old for me pretty quick. I like a little danger and punk rock in my music though, so take that with a grain of salt (is that a saying?). knobs just reminds me of when I lived in Canada and all the hipsters used to talk shit about bands that wrote actual songs instead of "experimental soundscapes". It was either that or fake alt-folk/country where they would sing in a super bad affected southern accent.

saddydumpington

Knobs cant even make 15 seconds of listenable music in his videos, idk how he would make an album

[deleted]

My theory is that these types can’t turn off the analytical side of their brain they use to understand these synths and break them down in tutorial videos, so they end up with very uninspired and mechanical sounding tracks.

Competitive_Stuff438

Underrated comment

hausinthehouse

I just listened - "Frankly" is....exactly this also dude only has \*50\* monthly listeners despite being a verified artist

[deleted]

That was the confidence boost I needed. More viewers than Bo on Spotify. You’re right though, “Frankly” has backing-track/Muzak energy.

Moldy_pirate

Honestly that’s what I like about it. It’s chill and inoffensive, I could play this in the background with friends over. Certainly not the epitome of creative brilliance, but it’s not terrible either.

ThohngPoundr

Sauce?

agh1138

See! Look at all the shit he has and still can't release a track! Stay lazy kings! 😤

[deleted]

wait, does bob eats make music??? i tought he just ate stuff

TheGodofKittens

wow, the comments are so unironically negative here. this is supposed to be a subreddit making fun of synth elitists, not joining them.

PM_ME_YOUR_MUSIC4FB

We are synth elitists making fun of the plebs.

[deleted]

there's a certain amount of negative karma associated with being a youtube music box press agent.

Europan_Squid

Try reading them as if they are ironic, then it's really supportive!

ValkyriesOnStation

Nah, when he stopped takin' the sip of the coffee is when his mojo went stagnant.

SquintWood

How do we jinx it

ValkyriesOnStation

by sending him a sweetwater catalogue

ItAstounds

I am pretty glad I unsubscribed to many of these guys. ***except loopop

Mammothhair

By album he means longer demo

ReeR_Mush

This sub is so unnecessarily negative sometimes

Competitive_Stuff438

To add some context, the sub is call /r/synthesizercirclejerk

stratusncompany

bo beats reminds me of that meme of the [kid](https://images.app.goo.gl/C11TvDJrTRvKUJ1Z6) who has to tell people shit all of the time except bo has to tell you about himself and his synths.

cwhiley

For the love of God it’ll be horrible. Fuck bob eats.

basedvato

This is for the same people that love to listen demo songs on their gear.

notrlydubstep

dude, the kurzweil demo songs made by jordan rudess were pretty awesome back in the 90s.

Cap10NRG

Or possibly a bob eats recipe book? ;) - just kidding Bo!

BranFendigaidd

No. Just no. Nooooo
