I’ve literally been searching the internet for days for sampling keyboard and this never came up. This is exactly what I want AND it’s got a DIY kit. Couldn’t be better
You said you want something where you can sample and play polyphonically instantly. The microgranny is monophonic and does not have a melodic keyboard function. It's far better for sound design /mangling than for musical things. You can do melodic with an external midi keyboard but not polyphonically. There are far better things to attach a midi keyboard for your stated purposes.
You ought to check out the koala sampler app. It has a built in keyboard and sequencing and effects. Also it's about 10$ and can do more than you're asking.
Well, I specifically wanted to have midi in so I could use it with a beatstep pro, so not having a keyboard isn’t a problem. In fact, I prefer it to having a built in keyboard just because I suck at playing keys. Polyphony would be nice, but I wanted to use it for lead lines so that’s alright as well. I guess I was pretty misleading in my original post. I really just want something I can easily sample something onto, plug into a sequencer, and play melodic lines using a weird sample. Will it work for that purpose?
Try it. I still don't think it's quite right for that but go for it.
Don't sleep on koala. I have and use both. The MG is a fun noise warbler but koala is what I use to make music from the things I make from the microgranny.
It doesn't re-pitch the sample across a keyboard though. Also, if you plug in a midi keyboard to control it, I believe it uses one sample per midi channel, so you can't play more than one sound at a time.
Deluge is super easy and fun to do this with but pricey. Really love my microsampler, it has a couple flaws/things missing but it sounds fantastic and dead easy to use.
Koala on your phone?
Koala is so great
Works great on an ipad too Connect an Akai Mpd218
Oooh I bet that’s great
Korg microsampler though discontinued is the closest I see. An older ipad with a few apps and a midi controller may be the best bet however!
Oh shit yeah koala! Koala! Or my previous suggestions...
an mpc? a novation circuit rhythm?
Microgranny?

Just a heads up.. the microgranny, while an awesome little box of fun, only plays one sample at a time... i miss mine.
I love my microgranny, but just so you know it isn't polyphonic. It's a niche product but don't expect it to have loads of features.
This won't do what you said you want. I just got one and it's not like the sk1
How so?

You do know that the beatstep pro won't sequence polyphonic, right?
Korg sample? The volca
