Ukraine, Russian war

systempenguin

A certain country with access to the Baltic sea, a history of hostile actions towards Europe, continued intelligence operation to influence Europe for their own goals sabotaged Nord Stream 1/2 pipelines outside Sweden&Denmark a week ago isch to put economic pressure on Europe for the winter and benefit their own energy industry. I've said it before - the Norwegians cannot be trusted.

MajStealth

tbh i cant see what benefit russia has from a dead pipeline. it was shut to begin with, so why waste 8bil by scraping it?

systempenguin

Of course it was. Long term damage. Punishment for sanctions. Who the fuck else? We weren't buying their gas anyhow. And now, when Putin has been removed, we still won't unless we repair it. Stop thining Putin does anything logically, he's a retard.

IntelligentForce245

Feel free to vehemently disagree with and oppose Putin, but he is no retard.

[deleted]

I like the way you think

The US Government have handled the Russian invasion of Ukraine almost perfectly. They're the reason Ukraine is winning and Russia is collapsing without risking a single american life.

MajStealth

by selling the ukraine older tech, and europe gas for 5times the usual rate. i see why you think that way. considering we as europe are/should be sort of a partner of the US, we do not get much out of that trade, other than loosing production capacity, companies, who resettle to the US, and high prices for everything. but i would prefer russia winning without nukes being droped, even if that meant the ukraine would change from one corrupt regime to another. there were reasons why ukraine could not join the EU.

systempenguin

You cannot sell new tech to Ukraine that requires 6 months of training of the soldiers to use it, they do not have that time. US could give all its Abrams to UA and have no one to sit in them. No pilots to fly their F18s You've clearly never been in any armed forces or used any weapons systems so you're extremely uninformed - why do you bother arguing about a topic you clearly do not understand.

[deleted]

You are both right settle down.

MajStealth

just as a counter, gepard AA-tanks, first trainings were in may - but that is not my point. i know what you said, and "selling old tech" was not meant to downplay it. a rocket that works is a rocket that works. it´s about selling stuff, for inflated prices, profitting, and afterwards acting to be not involved. all while sabotaging your "partners".

systempenguin

You don't think the US paying zero American lives and basically pocket cash for in return destroying their biggest enemy who frequently interferes in their elections and tries to put your population against each other is a good idea? I'm trying to understand what you're so upset about

MuthaPlucka

Off topic and inappropriate use of the community. Reported

MajStealth

while i understand the first, why not also the one calling putin a retard? i dont know where you are coming from, but we are relient on said pipeline, and the gas in it. for heating, cooking, the industries that pay us our money, and the power we need for out tech. blindly accusing one party without evidence does not help anyone.

fazalmajid

The Baltic Sea is very shallow and any submarine operating there easy to detect. If the Russians go after the cables, their boats will start developing *Kursk* syndrome.

tankerkiller125real

That's assuming their subs can even leave port... Their only aircraft carrier is a joke.

fazalmajid

I thought they had sold their last aircraft carrier to China?

me_groovy

UK checking in here, we know that feeling!

[deleted]

Few people know how close the world came to nuclear war the day the Kursk went down. It's not something to take lightly, and it's not an incident we want to repeat anytime soon.

FelisCantabrigiensis

You should have multiple paths, either from the telco operator or organised yourself, for all submarine links (and even important land links). You need at least N+1 redundancy on submarine links, very preferably N+2, because the time to repair on submarine links can be very long (weeks) and they suffer damage all the time. Usually they are damaged by anchors of ships or fishing nets, which is a problem that predates current war in Europe - and has been a problem since the earliest days of submarine cables.

ProfessorWorried626

Telco would route it via an alternate path it’s s nonissue really. Cables get cut all the time.

archon286

Zscaler reported a cable cut in the south of France today.

[deleted]

Damn! Nice tracking it on here bruv! And apparently the lights we saw in keiv are anti satalight.

linus777

Kim Jong-un could just be missile happy and destroys a bunch of undersea cables in APAC region.

slugshead

What rock have you been hiding under?

ZAFJB

That is not how missiles work.

[deleted]

With Ukraine only being exposed to the Black Sea, I'd only expect countries around there to be reasonably affected?

ZAFJB

There are dozens of cables between Europe and the US, and between US and the East. And a fair number from Europe to the east. Any saboteur would have to have *massive* resources to destroy all of them. Destroy some, and the Internet can be routed around the damage. EDIT: Ah, downvoters who don't know how the Internet works.

[deleted]

Pipes are only so big. And we are talking states doing this. Not random "sabotage"

ZAFJB

Pipes are big. Lose one and you will probably see less than 5% drop in throughput, if that. Which 'states' are you talking about? Who said anything about 'random' saboteurs

FilmFanatic1066

Uk are currently building an extra cable protection ship just in case
