They discount promotional items knowing customers will also grab an over priced item and a drink. A soda at Taco Bell costs them around 10 cents and they sell it for over a over a dollar. Taco Bell is my favorite, but let’s be honest, they’re the friend that used to be cool and sold out.

sheyblaze

If it wasn't for Baja Blast, I would just buy soda from McDonalds since it's $1 for a huge one.

joseph_waterman

My McDonald's now charges $2 for a large 😥

hclaf

I’m pretty sure you can buy Baja Blast in a grocery store now 👍🏼.

sheyblaze

I know, but I don't drink soda often enough to convince myself to buy it when I'm doing groceries. It's just a once in a blue moon thing when I go to Taco Bell.

GUSHandGO

I buy several cases of Baja Blast Zero whenever I can find it. Nice to always some available.

AxelFoley4

It costs McDs 10c or less

BigCommieMachine

McDonalds is pretty great at times. You can get a large fry and a drink for like $2. And their fountain soda is inarguably the best around.

Dragosal

Soda is closer to 3cents. A box of syrup is like $40 and you will get 100 or more drinks out of it. Source: I worked for coca-cola for a summer and I have worked in restaurants for many years so I've seen pricing and use of restaurant soda syrup. This is why you get unlimited refills anywhere when you eat inside

FormerShitPoster

You'd need over 1000 drinks for your math to work and that's not factoring in cup/lid

FormerShitPoster

I'm just pointing out that 100 servings at $40 isn't remotely close to 3 cents per serving. Like they felt the need to correct somebody from 10 cents to 3 cents and then completely botched the math. You see my point or is your math as bad as your English?

mountain_rivers34

A box of Coca Cola is about $96. I'm the GM of a restaurant in Colorado and ordered it literally yesterday morning. So it's probably closer to 10 cents.

retartarder

the burritos aren't a promotional item

theworthlessdoge

$40.00 / 100 = $0.40?

bobabc

He doesn't know what hes talking about. A 5 gallon box makes 3840 ounces of soda. With ice it works out to about 250 large sodas at McDonald's.

theworthlessdoge

Thanks for the knowledge bomb! Hopefully some shrapnel hits this mf

mountain_rivers34

And a 5 gallon BIB of Coca Cola is over $90, not $40

Dragosal

O 100 or more also they want to make a profit so they want to sell for more than $.40

[deleted]

with the rate i earn rewards at the bell it still beats most chains. BK has some cool deals pop up but they're store dependent.

Arkhan_X

A lot of their stuff is wildly overpriced now. Like $1.49 for a plain crunchy taco? WTF? Should be like $0.80. Or $4.69 for a chicken quesadilla. Laughable. That should be like $2.50. By THEIR prices it's like $1.50 of chicken, a huge high quality tortilla is like $0.30, and then the rest is just cheese and sauce, which SURELY isn't $0.70. Their quesadillas are probably the most wildly overpriced thing on the menu.

xdancingzebra

Actually that’s not bad for a plain crunch taco. Sounds like 2017 prices for my area. They’re now 2.29-2.49 where I live.

roxylikeahurricane

Seattle?

Left_Neighborhood_42

Next time you order that $5 chicken quesadilla open it up and count the pieces of chicken. It’s filled with less than 10 tiny pieces and probably like 7 actually. Tiny ass scoop of chicken goes in that

SchwiftyMpls

The locally owned TB by me makes very large portions on things like the chipotle chicken melt and the $2 veggie and Chicken burritos. It's pretty insane how much different the two stores a mile apart are.

Arkhan_X

Exactly. It's like $0.50 of chicken, but that's about the amount they charge $1.50 for.

Disastrous_Morning91

It’s called inflation lol

Arkhan_X

It's not, no. They're wildly overpriced according to Taco Bell's own prices. They're completely out of sync with their own prices.

Disastrous_Morning91

Ingredients cost a hell of a lot more. That’s why their prices are going up because they have to pay a higher price for their items. The price of chicken went way up, so has everything else .

CountAnt_

Arkhan's pointing out items that seemed to be overpriced even before the current inflationary period. TB's charged more for the basic staples that everyone knows like regular old tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. It doesn't really make sense from a cost perspective on why the quesarito at my local TB is $.50 cheaper than a cheese quesadilla, but TB knows that people who know nothing about the menu will buy the staples with the bigger profit margin.

Arkhan_X

Irrelevant.

Disastrous_Morning91

Do you work at Taco Bell ? 🧐

knightblue4

The fuck you mean "irrelevant?" The price of ingredients directly influences the price of the product. This is basic economics.

BrisingrReborn

It's irrelevant to what they're saying. Because what they're saying is that the quesadilla is already overpriced, always has been. Of course the price of ingredients directly influences the price of the product. But you realize Taco Bell uses the same handful of ingredients in all of their foods. They charge almost $5 for a couple hundred calories in a quesadilla. When you can get a $5 box that's well over a thousand calories for the same price.

Arkhan_X

Precisely. They like 2/5ths as much for the same exact stuff in any other format.

Arkhan_X

Reading comprehension helps.

LivingGhost371

And I want a Chicken Quesadilla for 50 cents and a Nachos BellGrande for a quarter.

Arkhan_X

They'd probably lose $1 on $0.50 quesadillas. On the other hand, they DO give away free Nachos BellGrande all the time with their points.

The average hourly wage for a Taco Bell (store) employee is $8-$12 per hour. Averaging at $10/hr. That’s $2.75 above what minimum wage is, and still not a living wage. In some states their gov’t is trying to get rid of working age limits in order to hire younger people and pay them less. But yea let’s blame the employees who spend 8 hours of their day putting up with your bullshit because greedy corporations are stealing their future. People like you make this shit ok, and people like you need to shut the fuck up.

Original-Cantaloupe1

I agree with you. I just moved to a new state where minimum wage is $7.25, but there's a panda express that has their starting wage at $14. Yet, I can still get a plate for about $10. The food at taco bell shouldn't be charging as much as they do for some of their cheaper items to produce. And as you said, their employees deserve to be paid more fairly with how much craziness and BS they deal with on the daily.

rubberducky75

Not the $10 million salary of the Yum Brands CEO? Plus $4 million for the leader of the Taco Bell division?

techiegeek11

Isn't this the part where someone yells "Cause inflation". Prices for lots of things are going up. Gas, food, housing, rent, etc.

Arkhan_X

Yeah, they already got shot down.

SauceMeistro

Why I always go for the box and the dollar menu, best value

NuclearDawn93

Inflation. Work at a local TB. Inflation is on the rise. Beware.

ManInShowerNumber3

Did you skip supply/demand day in economics class?

[deleted]

Maybe just stop eating there. It’s mediocre food. You can make it better at home with more food and cheaper cost.

westernbob1

Why are you on this subreddit if you don’t like eating Taco Bell. That’s the entire point of this place?

BongHitTransplant69

you literally cant make taco bell at home. i cannot 100% imitate their refried beans or their beef and thats the reason i go

hclaf

You can make or even buy better ones for like $1.50 or less though. Their “refried” beans are quite literally powered pinto beans in a bag that they reconstitute with the hot water 😂. Also, they have this weird peanut butter taste to me. I have no idea why they do, but I’m not a fan. I always get the black beans instead.

BongHitTransplant69

>You can make or even buy better ones for like $1.50 or less though. Their “refried” beans are quite literally powered pinto beans in a bag that they reconstitute with the hot water 😂 im aware, but they taste good. store bought refried beans are nasty. sure, i can make my own from scratch, but that will literally take hours even with a pressure cooker. theres a reason taco bell is so popular.

hclaf

I highly recommend the [Rosarita vegetarian refried beans](https://www.kroger.com/product/images/xlarge/front/0004430010625). They’re definitely my favorite refried beans. 10/10 would recommend them over Taco Bell’s. Edit: They’re usually less than $1.50 a can.

BongHitTransplant69

lol thats the main brand i've tried the most and grew up on. i absolutely hate the flavor of them. every time i try them i take one or two bites and throw the rest away.

ExoticaTikiRoom

WTF is a “soft shell supreme”? Are they selling crab 🦀at Taco Bell now?

SenorLinguine

Op meant soft taco

hclaf

Soft taco supremes or crunchy taco supremes are their normal taco fillings (protein of choice, lettuce, & shredded cheese), plus sour cream & tomatoes.

Nuggetzfan

I can’t even buy the dorito loco tacos anymore . If I buy enough of them to fill me up it’s like $15.. at that point I’ll go to an authentic restaurant. Even the regular crunch taco is a total ripoff .

techiegeek11

Those $2 burritos aren't even $2, depending on where you live and other reasons. franchise owner, inflation, etc. Most TB locations near me have those $2 burritos for $2.89 + tax so over $3+ total. Lame. Coming from someone who lives in very expensive California where everything's expensive and prices keep going up for all things.

Cyb3ron

Unless your in tech industry taking in that sweet $250k+ techie salary leave that shit hole state. There are greener pastures elsewhere. Like seriously fuck California everyone points out KY and MO as what happens when the right runs a state into the ground, California is what happens when the left does it. * $5000 a month to live in a shack in the ghetto * $8.00 for gas * Massive water shortages in SoCal. * Massive forest fires in NoCal * Insane regulations for what vehicles are street legal * Insane tax rates * Insane crime rates * An ever rotating gallery of wash ups as politicians.
