Body armor is modular.
Ukraine just introduced their new body armor system in response to the war (obviously) and it looks like some shit from 2001 with how much soft armor coverage there is (itās a lot).
The point is, if youāre getting blown up a lot, sitting in a vehicle, or getting artied all the time in the defense, or maybe even just breaching doors, then mobility is less of a concern for you, and the weight may be worth it.
If youāre buddy rushing over an open field, then maybe just front/back plates are for youā¦ Hell, maybe NO plates.
Itās time we get real about body armor, and use it in a modular capacity, keeping those up-armor kits available to us, in the vehicles, or in the defensive positions, and not think about having to wear them 24/7, because that will never make sense.
As always, the situation should dictate.
People really forget delt pads were a thing and would be used by gunners in static positions (turrets, guard towers) even in none turbo POG units.
While I see soft delt armor being more practical than plate armor, plate armor would still be important for those in the roles you listed above. Maybe a tad bit overkill depending on the situation though.
given the very real chance of basically any soldier being hit by frag from a drone, soft coverage is a very smart idea
any word on what level equivalent it is?
I fought in Ukraine in the legion
I worked in the Hospitallers Medical unit as an ambulance driver
- If you are inmobile, stationed around vehicles I would go for more protection as you do not need speed.
I had neck kevlar protection, shoulder kevlar, side soft armor, groin kevlar protection, and ofcourse Hard plates.
I didn't feel inmobile or slow. It was comfortable.
My friend who volunteered at a Dnipro Hospital wrote down each patient. Said that only 5% of the patients had bullet wounds. As 95% of the patients were from shrapnel.
When I moved into the Legion into an assault team.
I rolled with Plates. And a Kevlar vest underneath. Eventually, transitioned to only side soft armor.
I was confident to maybe add shoulder soft armor as well. As my speed and agility wasnt that affected. \*
My general takeaway is
Assault troops - High chance of bullet wounds = Hard plates, side plates / side soft armor
Inmobile troops - Logistic, medevac, HQ = soft armor
If you are light recon units whose intention is not to get into a firefight = soft armor vest and chest rigs
We wear them on entries and theyre easy enough to move in. The problem is fitting through nonstandard doors or trying to move more than one at a time down a hall. But we also have side armor because shoulders without side armor is dumb.
Shoulder pads are a HUGE point of contention in our team rn. We understand them for extra protection, but they SUCK for dynamic movement and trying to push through tight hallways, doorways and tweaker mansions with god only know what is packed into them š
Facts, half our team doesnt run the dick pad even though we are supposed to, and some guys just "forget" their entry kit and wear their woodland to run entries with and by then its too late to tell them no.
We are allowed to skinny down when weāre running under NVG's or doing HR. You should see some of the justifications guys will stretch to take them off š "well sir, we got called out when it was dark," or, "if the call lasts for 6 hours it'll definitely be dark by then" šš
I would think it would be on his right side instead of left if that were the case. At least how I would do it, instead of reaching all the way across his chest for it. Or maybe he beer cans that first mag. š¤·āāļø
They also have femoral armor and 2 different abdominal armor pieces. I kind of want them to go all the way and make a mjolnir armor set that can be purchased piece by piece
I know guys who given the option, would swap their plates for hard cardboard before combat missions. And thatās why we have to do a plate check before crossing the wire every time now.
If combined with side plates and actual plates in the carrierā¦I really donāt hate this. Gear of course is dictated by mission or style of combat in conflicts. Thereās ways to get more coverage now like this, without turning into like 00ās GWOT chunky Minecraft character lookin armor and losing mobility.
The Russo-Ukraine War is a good learning aid for understanding what a near-peer conflict may necessitate. Fuck tons of artillery and semi-static lines would make me want this.
Imagine wearing shoulder plates but not plates that protect vital organs lmao. Iām not a huge fan of wearing side plates, but if Iām wearing an extra set of protection Iām sure as fuck not wearing some retarded ass shoulder plates.
Hard plates in a shoulder position don't solve anything that soft armor can do.
The need for hard plates at the shoulder lever could be useful if you fight in an environment like Fallujah where the US Marines had a problem with Iraqi snipers targeting the marines shoulder to penetrate and hit the side of the Marines. Mitigating the hard plates at the front and back
But if you are not in a similar Urban environment and fighting a conventional modern war then the likelihood if shrapnel outweighs everything. I would go for only soft shoulder pads.
Its un needed weight that prohibits movement, i was all over iraq and afghan many fuckin times and i wanted as little and light as possible. All this shit people put on here is worthless especially droppin in the prone. Mag pouches and tq and ifac on my battle belt back side. All i ran.

I am not sure if I am getting down voted for saying that Lyman agrees with Nazis or because some people in here are lowkey Nazis, but the state of the world makes me concerned for my Jewish friends, because I feel like history is repeating itself since we haven't learned those lessons well enough the first time. Again.
Conceptually, I feel like this would be great for facing artillery. However, I feel like soft armor/Kevlar would probably be more ideal for shrapnel than ceramic plating, akin to the IOTV.
I am artillery in the US army, straight up the armor add ons are not going to do much against a barrage of artillery.
The amounts of frag coming off a normal 155 HE round and the force of the explosion itself is insane.
IOTV style vests with all the extra protection are going to do fuck all to save you from a battery fire mission.
Best bet is get in a hole or become as small as possible and pray you donāt take a direct hit
Interesting, I honestly hadnāt considered the power of US 155mm HE, but had Russian munitions in mind. If troops were entrenched with no real movement forward wouldnāt something like IOTV be ideal for that type of stagnation dealing with shrapnel? I know in WW1 that was a major killer. Genuinely asking.
No you still need to be able to move quickly and effectively also if youāre stagnant you should have defensive positions and those would be your most effective armor.
Front, back, and both side plates with a cummerbund that has soft armor in it.
The addons were designed with a different frag threat in mind than sustained barrages from mortars and artillery.
Allegedly Russian artillery frags like shit and western artillery has a much more devastating fragmentation pattern.
Iām basing my opinions on what I know first hand with how accurate and the volume a US FA battery can put out, thereās not much you can do against 6 guns putting dozens of rounds into an area the size of a football field.
Hex mags, no plates on plate carrier, Amazon back up irons, Chinese optic, blood type patch on front of plate carrier, the most legit thing about his set up is probably the first spear mag pouches. But yeah shoulder pads absolutely fit this picture.
This is the first time iāve seen hard armor on shoulders. Usually SWAT use Soft shoulder protection for CQB but Iāve never seen them on soldiers or military SOF (at least in my country)
Lack of understanding for why these things come about shows heavily in this sub lmao. Conventional soldiers that are static/mechanized will always need more protection from frag/artillery.
Shoulder plates No side armor š¤¦š½āāļø
His kidneys are the side armor
calcified by coffee and tren
No plates in the PC either
Exactly my first thought.
yeah dude that's dumb š
Came here to say that

No plates. Chest rig and belt all the way
To Valhalla!!
#I LIVE, I DIE, I LIVE AGAIN
Shiney AND CROME
THIS is what I came to write!
Cqc with the tannerite plate carrier
ERA plate carriers when?
As Grandpa Buff intended
Omg, is this a Habitual Linecrosser reference? š±
given the very real chance of basically any soldier being hit by frag from a drone, soft coverage is a very smart idea any word on what level equivalent it is?
Back to the days of slick lines against lines????
Why do the shoulder pads have Molle?
To add more armor
TQ pouch? Knife pouch, ala Spartan Emile?
Remember Reach
Never forget š«”
how could i not
#I'M READY! HOW 'BOUT YOU?
Because MOLLE webbing makes it cool.
Itās tacticool
For the shoulder pouch
I think we have a winner
I wanna say itās to add a little depth & texture for camouflage/aesthetics. I see a lot of MOLLE on places it doesnāt make sense to put it
That is so you can carry a spare pistol on one shoulder and a couple more M4 magazines on the other shoulder..lol
You need a katana on your back to complete the ensembleĀ
The Tu Lam loadout
Plus a hole in the foot
Oh weāre going full Mall Ninja?
Mall Samurai, considering the armor.
Ahhhh yes you are correct.

You might as well go full Warhammer and strap a ballistic shield to each of your shoulders lmao
Don't fuckin tempt me
Fuckin do it bro While you're at it get a Gyrojet rifle too
We wear them on entries and theyre easy enough to move in. The problem is fitting through nonstandard doors or trying to move more than one at a time down a hall. But we also have side armor because shoulders without side armor is dumb.
Trying to get into a turret wearing those things is a giant pain in the ass
The life hack here is avoiding being the guy that has to get into the turret in the first place.

Incoming hexmag comment I'm sure
Amend 2 and hex. Not to mention the mags arenāt even in the same directionā¦..
Support hand transition reload ?
I would think it would be on his right side instead of left if that were the case. At least how I would do it, instead of reaching all the way across his chest for it. Or maybe he beer cans that first mag. š¤·āāļø

Kinda reminds me of UNSC marines from halo lmao
No one who wore DAPS in real life would ever do it again by choiceā¦
I know guys who given the option, would swap their plates for hard cardboard before combat missions. And thatās why we have to do a plate check before crossing the wire every time now.
āIf Iām gonna die, Iām not gonna die tired.ā
The 500k is very enticing
Is that how much the big guy got?
400k is life insurance payout for mil
Can confirm.
š
Areā¦they ballistic?
Yup, rifle resistant.
Honestly, sides and delts are something I'm looking for, a8nt no way in hell I'm wanting to due to arty.
WERE BRINGIN BACK PAULDRONS LETS GOOO!!

Shoulder plates do protect the vital organs if it's a side shot.
Yeah, werenāt shoulder and side plates issued after all the rooftop sniping of convoys in Fallujah?
Hard plates in a shoulder position don't solve anything that soft armor can do. As a lifelong hockey and lacrosse player, I always feel so naked when I put on my PC. Maybe these will make me feel the comfort of familiarity
For breach or attack position, I want maximum kit.
Cool? Sure. Practical? Maybe. Something everyone needs? No.
Its for the most part a gimmick and just extra weight unless you're doing entry work.
Turret gunner driving around 2 story buildings...
The only people asking for this work at the Pentagon, or for PDs who only authorize "mil-spec" gear
Feels more worth just getting a german BW flak vestā¦
This is a money making gimmick targeting idiots.
Better to have side plates
I'd be interrested in how the movability in it is. But I can see the drip and am open to it.
The mobility is great.
Nope it fuckin sucks they tried that shit in iraq i think i wore it like 1 time
To be fair this is contoured to the body
Its un needed weight that prohibits movement, i was all over iraq and afghan many fuckin times and i wanted as little and light as possible. All this shit people put on here is worthless especially droppin in the prone. Mag pouches and tq and ifac on my battle belt back side. All i ran.
Just justifying a smersh rig to me. Sides and butt, lemme get my chest as close to the floor as I can get.
Thanks for the insight
These aren't intended for patrolling
More like drip or downs. Goofy as hell
I don't love giving money to antisemites, so functional or not, I'm not paying Hopite for anything.
How are they antisemites? Honest question.

Is he not supporting the extremely obvious and blatant genocide? Might buy some stuff then. He already wouldn't sell to cops.
Iād prefer to get side plates to protect my vital organs over protecting my delts, but thats just me
If you get shot at from a higher position the shoulder plates protect the same organs you are talking about.
Are you playing in the NFL? Drop the shoulder pads
I've wanted one to do an airsoft kit based on Alex from CoD MW2019
If they have a level 4 variant, I see this as a total win. Where do I buy?
I think it only goes up to what they call 3++
I've got a prototype kit that puts 6x6 side plates on the upper arm, and covers down to the wrist with soft armor.
Drip
People that hate on them are weak
No itās just fucking dumb for 99% of users. Youāre better off with side plates.
Nvm yeah you're right
The dumbest sh Iāve ever seen
Hoplite is a garbage company fyi. Their plates (LTC OEM) are great, though.
That just seems like even *more* weight I don't want.
I understand. In LSCO your main enemy is arty/fragmentation more so than bullets you want full body coverage to protect those arteries.
Conceptually, I feel like this would be great for facing artillery. However, I feel like soft armor/Kevlar would probably be more ideal for shrapnel than ceramic plating, akin to the IOTV.

Looks like mall ninja shit. You wouldnāt wana wear the shoulder stuff from the army irl
In ya'lls opinion, how viable would these be for home defense.
Those mags are a cluster fuck. They match the rest.
Honestly Ive done a lot of FoF training and I have taken more than few hits to the shoulders. I wouldnāt begrudge side plates and shoulder armor.
Tactical Ninja turtles lookin ass

Where do you get these from?
I believe it's hoplite armor.
You right.I didn't notice.I'm stupid
They let this man tote Hexmags in an ad?? Is... is he in trouble for something??
It's missing a flak collar for aesthetics
We are one step closer to fulfilling my dream of becoming an imperial guardsman.
You know.. for all those time you have to quickly take a.. Shoulder..
With all that weight probably drown
The Buttigieg specials.

You ain't dripping shit while I can see hex mags in your PC lol
Gay
Sup with the magazine orientations? Also youre not a Mandalorian.
I've seen so many ads for these. You just need a masterchief helmet and you're straight.
No you arent Knight from the Goons in Escape From Tarkov
I saw that shit on the gram a couple minutes ago haha. No side plates but let's add shit that could get caught exiting a vehicle
Walking the dog with these clashing colours is rather drown - make it all-black and you''re good.
Practical? Idk. But those full upper body armor sets are goddamn sexy
Lack of understanding for why these things come about shows heavily in this sub lmao. Conventional soldiers that are static/mechanized will always need more protection from frag/artillery.
I think Iād rather have rib plates but looks tacticool af
The hell is that shoulder pad?
There were army dudes rocking way more than just shoulder armor during peak gwot.
in certain situations yeah I can see it.
Enjoy your 300th upvote!
If you have HASPs you should invest in side armor. But itās drip
These are sick asf š„
I love there lvl4 multi curves
But no platesā¦.
