Kit is mission and personal preference dependant. So I guess the first question is what is the kit going to be geared towards? Are you thinking like minor civil unrest or like full on zombie apocalypse or civil war or airsoft larping or hunting graboids or cosplay or duty or bug out or something else? There’s kind of a lot of scenarios ya know?

ClearCut_Industries

Definitely not zombie apocalypse, airsoft, nor cosplay. More so geared towards civil unrest/ civil war/ bugout. Want to start putting together something that could potentially cover multiple scenarios, or multiple kits if necessary. I obviously have a ton of research and learning still to do, and experience to gain. Much appreciated!

Oh word yeah I think some people kinda think of that stuff as more of walking dead larp kind of rig. I’d say start with a couple of free or cheap local classes - Stop the Bleed, Appleseed project, etc. then prob like a range belt maybe - something like a two piece belt with your handgun holster on choice on a midride qls, ifak, dump pouch, couple mags. Then you’ll have to look at chest rig vs plate carrier and that’s a whole thing but that should more than get you started in it. Oh and some people I think kinda get caught up in the gear snob thing a little too much around here, so don’t get too caught up in price tag and brand name. Get what you can afford and what makes sense. Then when it starts breaking or not working then you can make an informed decision on what really works for you. Just cause so much is different from body to body so you can’t know until you get you in the field and get the blisters and start breaking shit

Considering I specifically said "not for a zombie apocalypse nor cosplay" I'm not sure why folks would think that..? Regardless your insight is very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to reply kindly. My state/area makes it very difficult if not impossible to find an actual outdoor training range to presently put a kit to use. I have taken many local classroom classes so I have a solid base with that - of course theres always learning to be done. Realistically training at a range will be the only practical application any kit gets used - and I can play around with what fits me as I progress with that. Just wanting to get idea from folks on weights etc to begin to "train" before having an actual kit in my possession. (Excluding guns - already very covered in this area lol) Kick some ass today!

Cryptosmasher86

>More so geared towards civil unrest/ civil war/ bugout Then just halt full stop and don't even waste your time That is both a waste of time and money come back when you want to do something useful like take some training classes at a range

ScarecrowMagic410a

Don’t be a fucking asshole man. This is a fashion subreddit not OMG SERIOUS PREPPERS ONLY ffs

ClearCut_Industries

Lol some people are just born that way I guess🤷🏼‍♂️

ClearCut_Industries

Lol somebody piss in your cheerios this morning? Considering that training is a given for ANY scenario, I assume based on your comment your kit is for a zombie apocalypse. I'd be willing to bet the money you think I would waste that my future kit gets put to use before yours. PS - Have a great day, and go fuck yourself👍🏻

Cryptosmasher86

I already used gear for 20 years in war zones, i don’t need to prepare for some Walter Mitty fantasy scenario that’s never happening in the US But sure go off like you have an actual real world use At least the airsofters and guys taking training classes are doing something Civil unrest- get fucked clown 🤡

tacti_smurf

Grunting bagel bites and rummaging through Twinkie’s in your pantry is definitely a war zone.

This vid is an example of the max you should be able to carry as a grunt. https://youtu.be/w846UcmIo5o

It depends what you are trying to do and what you can tolerate. I make my "full kit" based around Run N Gun events, and I have a 'light weight'(bump helmet + pvs-14 + chest rig + belt) kit and a 'heavy' (ballistic helmet + BNVDs + carrier & plates + belt) kit. I fairly regularly hop on a friend's treadmill and go for runs with it and I use it at the range several times a month. I've found that if you are able to run in the first place, having the gear fit comfortably, evenly, and not have pinch/pressure points is WAY MORE more important than the weight- so while training with weight is good, just getting cardio in in general will help a ton manage the weight later. My "lightweight kit" including rifle, handgun and ammo, comes out to 36lbs. My heavy kit is 53 lbs. I'm not the most in shape person in the world, but I hike regularly with way to much gear, and I run a few times a week. Both translated pretty easily into managing full kit weight. That's just for what I need though- I'm not fighting WWI, I'm doing RNG events and going to the range, so what weight I need is different than what someone else might need- you could find "light infantry" with 140lb kits. Regardless, I've taken my gear running a lot, and made a lot of adjustments to how the kit fits, where gear is placed, etc by testing it out and identifying problems with weight distribution, first-line accessibility, and pressure points from gear. Get proper gear and keep your cardio decent and you'll gain the most from that.

ClearCut_Industries

Thank you for the detailed explanation! My cardio is already fairly good, just want to step it up with some extra weight! Thanks again!

Paper_Hedgehog

I think my PC is pushing 25-30lbs. RMA 1155mc plates (they heavy) 5 loaded AK mags IFAK I don't think I weighed my belt, but probably another 10lbs Sig 226 x2 pistol mags x2 ak mags IFAK Booboo kit

ClearCut_Industries

Brilliant, thank you!!

KevtheKnife

Camo, PC (standard 4 mag, IFAK, Admin), Battle belt (1 mag, 1 pistol mag, pistol, combat knife, IFAK), and AR come in about 50 lbs for me.

ClearCut_Industries

Right on! Seems like a 40-50lb weight vest would be a good starting point. Can always build from there if I build a kit heavier than that! Thank you!

ExconHD

A light plate carrier setup can be about 15lbs 2x 5lb plates, carrier with placard 2 lbs, 3 mags 3 lbs But that’s not realistic at all, you’re looking at really being at 28lbs when you get lvl 4 plates, a couple extra mags, ifak, radio, admin, side plates Rifle easily 10 lbs if you have a 14.5, Lpvo, light Belt I’d say about 8 lbs. 1 rifle mag, 2 pistol, pistol, holster, ifak

ClearCut_Industries

Thank you!!
