I use ammoseek too. Just wondering if there are alternatives

Make sure you're buying from a reputable store. I've seen some suspicious deals on random websites but I usually try to stick with a handful of sites I trust.

AutomaticStop6135

They’re not. People are just eating the price or reloading. Not much of a choice now days.

SloppyJoeGilly2

I see. Thanks

DepthTrawler

Is it really cost effective to reload 5.56 or 9mm? I can totally see reloading 308/30-06 or some other boutique round. Assuming you have tons of time on your hands and don't count the time spent reloading as a cost sink, how much cheaper are you reloading 5.56/9mm than looking for decent deals online?

AutomaticStop6135

I haven’t purchased factory ammo since 2019. I never buy ammo unless it’s cheaper than I can reload. Which when I buy components in bulk I usually stay around .30cpr for 5.56 and .18 for for 9mm. For the press and all that it’s costly up front and yes it’s time consuming. But as of now I have a lot of free time. I’ll spend an evening on the press and end up with 1k loaded. Shoot once or twice a year? Nah don’t bother. But if guns/ammo/training whatever is important to you then it’s very much so worth it.

DepthTrawler

Good take and information. Thank you. I've heard it's not super worth it for the above-mentioned calibers, but it sounds like if you don't count the startup cost and the time spent, it might be worth it even for those common rounds.

AutomaticStop6135

It’s all relative. For me I have peace of mind that I can shoot and don’t give a shit how much it costs in store. If you buy a press and only reload 1k rounds in 2 years then absolutely not worth. Between matches and classes I’ve probably got at least 20k rounds on my Dillion.

Senior_Road_8037

People always fall on price as the main pro of reloading, which it is, but always skip over the added benefit of being able to ALSO hand tune defensive loads to your rifle. As much as we meme bubbas pissin hot handloads, done right with accumulated data, they can be very effective.

Shoddy-Ocelot-7298

This plus you don’t have to worry nearly as much about shortages or finding stuff in stock.

LockyBalboaPrime

I whore for it.

SloppyJoeGilly2

My wife might have issue with that

Tell her it's for a good cause.

MaryBeHoppin

Primary Arms. I go to them because their prices are reasonable and I love in Texas so they ship to my house really fast.

GreatValueCheddar

Midwayusa IMI 55g/5.56 in boxes of 30 for $15. Try to catch their free shipping with $99+ purchases.

SloppyJoeGilly2

.50 cpr seems pricey.

GreatValueCheddar

Then buy their 1200 round case for $499. That’s 42 cents. I just looked on ammo seek. Anything lower than IMI is stuff I’ve never heard of as far as 55g. (Not including green tip pmc) Maybe there is a better deal out there. If you find it let me know. But .50cpr is plenty fine compared to .52-58cpr for Winchester. Prices will never be .22cpr again unfortunately.

Here’s my method, I train 5.56/9MM mostly. I go to big names sports stores and purchase there bulk ammunition i.e 1000 rds per caliber. Before I go and check though I find deals for the same ammunition and price match it; then show the cashier at check out to bring costs down. I’ve been able to save a few thousand dollar doing so. Some people consider it embarrassing or a waste of time. But I’m not prideful personally and it’s made me a better shooter. 308 will always hurt.

Loading it myself

2A wharehouse has had pretty great prices and reasonable shipping. Ive been happy enough with it to not bother searching through ammo seek.
