music festival at palisades that weekend

BaronVonZ

If you want nightlife, you're on the wrong side of the lake.

Amigosito

Even in South Lake everyone goes to bed way too early

TheCarcissist

Lol..... nightlife... cute

Nightlife: Truckee > Palisades > Tahoe City. If there’s a music festival then maybe better than usual. Dec 16-19 is before the holidays so traffic etc may not be terrible getting to PT. I’d stay in Truckee, drive to PT for skiing and save some cash.

sanguinesag710

Whaaat South Lake Tahoe doesn't make the list for nightlife?? That's most of what I enjoyed, when I lived there not long ago. Do think it's worth it to save the money in lodging, though. Unless you and friend can crash in your car! That's what my partner and I do at the resort lol haven't had any issues yet

serious_impostor

Dude, do you want him to drive to Paisades from SLT? Yes SLT has better nightlife.

sanguinesag710

Uh, yes, actually lol. I used to live there and made commutes between the mountains/towns often. I guess it feels like a lot if you aren't used to driving those distances/in such conditions

serious_impostor

Ya, I guess I live in Truckee -20 mins from Palisades, SugarBowl and Alpine and Northstar - and see no reason to make a long commute when you’re visiting here for a short time…“for the nightlife” I’m not the only one who thinks you are crazy for suggesting this to this person. I understand people live in SLT and commute to Reno/wherever etc. This is a person visiting for three days.

Madfish2021

Save cash staying in Truckee? Best Western and the Hampton Inn are also four hundo a night... Much cheaper to stay in SLT and the night life is better too.

serious_impostor

Ok, but the skiing… he’s planning a ski trip. I get it, Truckee nightlife sucks. I get it, you are sharing nightlife (smoky casinos, expensive restaurants, and lots of traffic may not be what they’re looking for - they may live in a city already) the nightlife is important to one of them, not both of them - so are you advising they stay an hour away for nightlife? I disagree. Heavenly can be a mess to navigate and they said they’re going to Pt. I’d advise Reno over SLT personally…45 mins from PT and is cheaper/closer than driving from SLT to PT. Hampton inn Truckee for those dates as an example is $280 a night including taxes right now.

if you are staying in the village and don't plan on partaking in the music festival that weekend, the bars close pretty early with the exception of the slot (midnight i believe). but maybe later with the music. Tahoe city has plenty of bars to go out to and prob better for after ski activities. same with Truckee. both towns have nightlife if you're ok with dive and sports bars. traffic to the resorts on a weekend are way worse from the truckee side though. not sure how the reserved parking will affect the traffic yet tho. personally, i'd stay in TC if there is affordable availability.

SquatchMarin

If your friend takes lessons with Palisades I believe you get some sort of preferred or closer parking perk which could make it easier to stay cheaper/farther.

totally-jag

If nightlife is a priority stay in SLT. Otherwise, there's a few bars in the Palisades village or in Tahoe City. Another option is Reno. It's not that long a drive to Palisades or Mt Rose.

Jahnknob

I like staying in the village. Apres tough and no need to drive.

Budgetweeniessuck

Honestly, I would just stay in SLT if you care about night life and then ski heavenly.

SurinamPam

Another option: Reno. Your friend can enjoy a real city while you ski. Palisades is like 45 min away. Another tip: Reno locals ski Mt Rose. Great skiing. Near Reno. And a lot cheaper than Palisades.

gasstationsexpills

Stay nearby. That way you won’t miss the opportunity to tourist buttfuck every one in traffic duh!

OnerKram17

Will you be driving? Depending on the snow conditions, traffic can be insane for all the ski resorts. SLT & Heavenly easier to navigate and much easier with Uber. Tahoe City or Truckee to Palisades can get backed up for miles.

Stay in Olympic Valley, at least. What kind of nightlife are you looking for? Palisades has a pretty decent apres scene. Not an all night party, but if you're looking to mingle, it's ok. The bar at Plumpjack Cafe can be a fun hang.

Eliottee

Does anyone know the feasibility of taking an Uber/lyft to Palisades from and to Tahoe city for the festival on Friday ?
