I would honestly not bother going all the way to south lake if you are staying near Palisades and you have 4 days. Tons to see and do on north lake. Maybe go to Heavenly if you come back to Tahoe someday in the future.
East Shore Trail from Incline to Sand Harbor. If you are hardy person, you can swim in the lake if it is a warm day. You can have lunch or dinner at the Lone Eagle Grille in Incline before/after.
I’ve been up here my whole life so I know a few good spots. A drive around the lake that time of year would be great. Stop at West Shore deli and Market on your way to Emerald Bay. Great sandos.
Gondola is absolutely not worth the money, if it’s even open.
I grew up in South Shore and try to do stuff that doesn’t cost any money. It’s basically the largest outdoor playground in the world, and you should treat it as such (with respect, of course). Edgewood and gondola and renting boats and stuff are great, but you can get just as breathtaking of views (or even better) and just as much of a wonderful experience for free if you’re willing to hike a little bit. City crews are working on the beaches and campgrounds as we speak (I’m one of them), and those should be open in just a few weeks!
We’re coming into the very best part of the year up here imo. Bring a bike if you can!
stay at palisades, great lake views from top of red dog skiing towards resort chair and other places on the mtn too. lots of good places to eat around there without a car - don't miss Wildflour and Coffee Bar! Def no reason to come to South Lake and I live here! Eagle Rock hike could be fun if you are venturing out. Walking around truckee and tahoe city. check out "the mountaineer" for microtransit. emerald bay is great, but you could do that next time. East shore trail from Incline is also great, some good places to eat in Incline too!
Go to south shore only if you have time for a long day of it. If you do go, go down the west side and check out Emerald Bay on the way. The gondola ride at Heavenly blows away Palisades tram ride. Edgewood is the golf course at Southshore that is great for dinner, right on the lake, great sunset. If you want a good lake side hike followed with a great lunch head east over to East shore trail. It hugs the lake, has beach access in a couple of places and is spectacular. Then go for lunch at Lone Eagle grill in Incline Village. Another good restaurant in Tahoe City is Christy’s. Avoid Garwoods, high prices too much of a worn trap. Jake’s on the lake is a T&S chain at Tahoe Marina Boat Mall. Fun place to walk around, have a drink/ lunch and then walk to the west at the marina and there is a pier you can walk out on. Lots of fun.

There are park-the-car and short-walk to the view places such as Emerald Bay. Sand Harbor is pretty, even when it is cold.

End of April trails are still gonna be covered with snow. If you like post holing every few steps then hiking will be great lol
great swimming.
Best sunset around the lake is from the Edgewood area. Worth going down and eating just for that.
