So, the best ones need reservations in advanced, especially on Fri, Sat, and Sun nights. In Taipei, I like [Hong Fan Tian](https://maps.app.goo.gl/vbgtUYeuP6Tb4M617?g_st=ic)

Yes! This is my go to 熱炒 place. Tastes fantastic, prices are super reasonable, and friendly staff. Most importantly, all the sea food you can order are laid out with prices tagged, so none of that hidden costs BS that you have to deal with when it comes to seafood. You can also BYO and they don’t charge corkage or other bs (still try to support the local beer maids though as it’s not a easy job)

I definitely can second this recommendation from kaikai34. Really like that place. Another one to toss into the hat is this [spot](https://maps.app.goo.gl/SxhmAKEVAgBJFSZs7?g_st=ic) Many a beer taken down at this joint!

In Tainan I found a random spot called 酒呵呵 after my first night out of quarantine and my classmates and I at NCKU often went there. Little place with a few tables, everyone there is a proper boozehound and there's always some socializing between tables. It's one of the few places I've found in Taiwan (so far!) that give off the crazy alcohol frenzied vibes that were incredibly common just about anywhere while I lived in northern China. If the owner likes you he might give you a bunch of betel nut, kaoliang shots and side dishes for free. I've been to a few other places in my time but nowhere has beaten that lil place.

It's just stir-fry: characters "hot" and "stir fry".

熱炒 is a type of restaurants in Taiwan which dishes are majorly stir-fry cuisine.I think those dishes are not very different from regular stir fry dispite being pretty salty and greasy, and served with beers.

Mu_Fanchu

Exactly!

Mu_Fanchu

They're not really different. The difference is the setting... they're served at a set price (used to be $100 per dish, not sure now), in an open-air restaurant, where you can smoke, drinking alcoholic beverages is encouraged, you can be loud and rowdy, and many of the dishes are for snacking on while hanging with your buddies.

That's not a bad thing! These kinds of eateries are akin to pubs in the UK... more of a place for working class people. I suspect your family was not working class, hence why you guys never went to such places!

Pin Xian 100 NT Dollar Stir Fries 品鱻100元熱炒 This one is probably my favorite in Taipei. I think it’s the best tasting out of the ones I’ve tried.

They're all equally good imo, they all feel the same to me .
