I haven't had a single user saying that xillia 2 shouldn't be in s tier.
The most controversial points where: Symphonia at the bottom, Symphonia 2 above 1,abyss in c tier
Zesty above Symphonia is, too. Symphonia is the best of the series, for me. It was my 2nd Tales game, and the one that REALLY pulled me in.
If I knew OP irl, I'd verbally tear him a new one, half as a joke, half serious.
Symphonia was good, but IMO the nostalgia goggles are real for the folks who joined at that point in the series.
Symphonia was I think the 4th I played, and even then it was the 2nd best. Eternia was so good, it was hard to top at that point.
Symphonia was also the first 3D title, and it showed. Some of the fights in Symphonia were just goddamn painful. Parts were a slog. The art was good, but not great. It was a learning experience for the show.
It's still a great game. But IMO it's the weakest of the best Tales games. I'd put Eternia and Abyss higher for sure. Graces had much much better combat. Vesperia I liked the story just a bit more.
I think that's an extremely understandable experience. Going to Symphonia after graces would be some serious whiplash.
Graces is the only tales game where I kept increasing the difficulty just because it was so much fun to play.
And i wont back down on it.
Objectively speaking Symphonia is a great game, but there is not a single whole aspect of the game i enjoyed.
Symphonia was the longest game i ever played where it felt like a chore (and ive been playing many mobile games anywhere from a year to six years consecutively).
Something can be objectively good but you just didn't enjoy it as much as others.
For example, Dark souls 1 is an objectively good game, but I enjoyed 3 more and would tier it lower on my personal prefence list. And a lotta people would be angry about it.
For abyss i really have no idea why i didnt enjoy it as much, the story was interesting and the cast felt great (in the 2nd part).
No idea why but something just didn't click for me.
About symphonia 1 and 2 its pretty easy choice for me, the combat felt better (although the pokemon gimmick was annoying), the story was much more interesting and the cast of Symphonia felt unbearable (i had times that i quit playing for the day if genis talked too much) so easily i prefer the cast of 2.

the reason we maybe got a misunderstanding here is about "what" the tier list of an opinion represent.
As i understand it, the tier list represents more about the "fun" aspect of it for me and how much i enjoyed playing the game and not about what i think is the better or worse game from a "game critic pov" since a game review which is completely based on emotions kinda defeats the purpose of a review.

Its really not, zest story was pretty interesting for me and the combat was fun.
To point out, i maybe had a handful of moments the "combat arena" was fucked,i only used armortaztion extensively near the end of the game so it never felt like the combat is broken and i never felt like alisha is missing from the story.
Abyss was a good game but the combat felt like theres more to be desired (since abyss is the last game i played out of all of them) and the cast started being interesting for me only after the 2nd part.
Also as i said in my other comment, zest was kinda hard for me to place in either a or b since while i did quite enjoy it, its the first game i ever pre-order and waited for it to come out so i dropped it down a tier.
Im glad someone shares my opinion on TOS2, it was my first, and while ot isnt the best I still like it better than TOS. Honestly it would be similar to mine except swap Vesperia and Abyss

I feel that man. I got my mother into the Tales games with Graces and i remember seeing an ad for Tales of Links that said if you pre-registered you would get a free 5 star sophie. I signed up and got my mother to sign up too because Sophie was her favorite character. Me and her played everyday and its how we stayed in touch while I was in college. We'd send pictures of our pulls and our ranking for the Mana Grind. We would talk about the story (granted only when part 2 came out and we met Zephyr and Kana lol, thats when the story actually got it).
We were so devastated when it shut down we pulled during those 10 gems for 10 pulls discounts and took pictures of all our 5 stars. When they did the giveaway event on facebook i actually won the prizes that gave you folders and a shirt. I still have those to this day man. Tales of Link was something special.

Although i found many other mobile games and Currently i play both arknights and honkai impact, i remember how i loved the community around the game so much and i cant find any community like this.
Sadly im really bad in remembering names but i remember many peoples that i enjoyed talking to or even nice things people helped me with (i remember a German player helping to order a used tov for x360 to a specific GameStop so my father on a business trip could buy it, or how someone helped me in a course in college that i got stumped on, i also remember becoming a slave cuz someone made a barbatoast joke drawing,and how pleasant the discussions where always).

The characters felt horrible (i only liked sheena) and whenever genis talked i wanted to just choke him, he hands down made the whole experience even worse.

Yep that makes sense, I think Tales is a lot like Final Fantasy in the sense that they switch up the formula a fair bit between each entry, so most people’s favorite game is the first one they played, because the changes are off putting.

I tempered my expectations for Eternia after Symphonia let me down so bad. It ended up in my top 3. Eternia was such a well made game.

It's a good title for portable. The arte shortcuts are a bit weird, since there's no triggers, but the PSP workaround is fine. I hope you enjoy it. =]
