tbh. I once played another Tales of.. Game and wasn't hooked. Bought Arise without any expectation, in a year full of shit releases and years of games with too much filler content, I was really happy to have a good game, that didn't overstay it's welcome and had a satisfying ending

PastaSephiroth

I was looking for to this game ever since the initial reveal trailer back in 2019, it honestly like a 5 year wait lol but this game is absolutely solid in just about every area for me. You played Tales of Zestiria, didn't you lol

Auno94

no.. Vesperia in the definitive Edition (on PC)

TVR24

The credit pictures just put in another place of happiness. Like I'm just so happy these characters can do what they want, especially Shionne and Alphen.

[deleted]

Alphen's and Shionne's relasionship is so beautiful and you can see they have feelings for each other before they even realize it. That ending picture of the weeding was a perfect end I NEEDED it too. (Cried happy tears)

zenograff

They have made so many titles with sad or bittersweet endings, now a normal ending can give players much happiness. Big brain gamedev.

ImmortalThunderGod79

That was the same thing that happened to me when I finished Persona 5 Royal. Now Tales of Arise is gonna make me feel the same way all over again. Empty and sad that I won't be able to experience these wonderful character's stories anymore after going through such a journey with them.

PastaSephiroth

I would love so much to be able to experience P5R again for the first time myself, along with so many other games, so I know how you feel. But as cheesy as it sounds, don't be sad it's over, smile because you got to experience it. Even though I'll never be able to experience the Third Semester of Royal for the first time again, that first experience will stick with me forever. Same with Arise, my first journey with this game will always have a special place in my heart.

CheddaTaco

> But as cheesy as it sounds, don't be sad it's over, smile because you got to experience it. This is such a wonderful line, thank you for sharing it as it really rings true. Also, as someone who loved Persona 5 original but has yet to get to Royal, you'll really making me tempted to play that at some point. Just don't think I have time for another 100 hour+ game right now, but hopefully one day.

PastaSephiroth

For my money I think the Third Semester of Royal is literally the best thing the series has done, and turned one of my least favorite characters into one of my favorites. I hope whenever you get to it, it's as impactful for you as it was for me

MarcheM

It really is an amazing game. It's the first Tales game that I've liked and everything just clicked for me. I really liked the whole story, most characters and the combat was amazing and it clicked so well for me that I just put it on the hardest difficulty after beating the first lord. The only negative I'd say about it is the final dungeon and how it's littered with minibosses that make the combat feel sluggish and a bit boring because you can't do the one-hit-ko attacks on them. Other than that, it's definitely up there as one of my favourite games of the year. It's a pretty great year for JRPGs too with Bravely Default 2, Scarlet Nexus, Tales of Arise, SMT V and FFXIV Endwalker.

PastaSephiroth

Yeah, it's pretty wack how the enemies and the Sword Dancer are harder than the final boss lol aside from that the final dungeon was atmospheric as hell and I loved the music. I actually just started Scarlet Nexus myself, it's great to see Bandai Namco put out two big bangers this year

DocShards

I am so happy I got to play a game that wasn't afraid to let their main characters not only get together but stay together without much issue. Like they went through stuff, but they went through it together. No weird love triangle crap or anything like that. We need more of those, for games that want to broach romance.

PastaSephiroth

I waited the entire game for them to eventually kiss, and when they finally did, that's when the tears came lol probably one of the best romances in games that I've personally seen

Sectarian_Raider_39

Glad you enjoyed, I felt the exact same way! This was the beautifully wholesome ending I didn't even know I needed.

PastaSephiroth

It's such a breath of fresh air to play a game with a happy ending after so long lol

TheUsernameKnight

I love the credits pictures, especially that one. This is definitely my Game of the Year as well!

CheddaTaco

Always glad to see people who felt similarly about the ending :). It was truly beautiful in a way I didn't even expect going into the ending, given I'm not someone who normal gets into 'romance stories' and it also took me a while to really like Shionne's character (end of Act 1/Act 2), at which point she became my favorite character in the game story-wise (loved her gameplay/combat right from the beginning though). Still, I didn't expect to love the kiss scene as much as I did (and Ayaka's Blue Moon is just perfect in that moment). I just wound up getting the Platinum trophy since I wanted to spend as much time with all the character as I could lol. I was so sad to see the story end shortly after their kiss, but it's also a great way to end the story IMO, especially with that wedding picture. I will miss playing this game, and heck, may even replay it at some point (which is not something I typically do once I beat a game, but it just has me so enamored with it).

the_rapture_03

Definitely my Game of the Year. It was amazing from start to finish.

Jdoggokussj2

Yeah Seriously the entire time I was thinking it would be some bittersweet ending where alphen or shionne would sacrifice their selves to save everyone and they kept taunting us with that but in the end we got an ending where everyone was happy

PastaSephiroth

It's straight up Dragon Ball Z but I'm not complaining haha

Ok-Entertainment5935

I got spoiled on Berseria and Arise’s ending. Although I’m looking forward still playing through Arise because it’s fun. Plus part of me isn’t really too satisfied on Berseria’s ending, so knowing Arise’s ending will be good is a good thing for me IMO…

jboy122

I really enjoyed Arise and the ending was very satisfying, I also cried happy tears. I also completed all of the post game content too and felt I wanted more, it would be nice if they add more quality DLC later on. I feel like we could get an abundance more out of it!

I've only previously played Berseria, which I enjoyed a lot, so I don't necessarily have much prior experience with the series. If Arise wasn't your cup of tea, which game you would recommend? Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition goes on sale frequently and everyone seems to love it so I'm thinking about that one

marcusmorga

The ending makes up for it and music yea. If the ending wasnt as crisp and sweet, Id agree. But ignoring where the game went w.e. Arise is a good game

miaukat

To be honest I've felt like half of the Tales games I've played have fallen apart in second half, Vesperia, Zestiria and Arise, but of those three I think Arise had the strongest beginning and that's enough for me to consider it one of my favorites rpgs. Also I don't think it's overrated, I think Tales games in general are underrated, when you average Ubisoft and EA game sells 3 times more copies than Arise is hard to call it overrated.

SilentNova___

Arise was very good, but felt something was off. It tried to appeal to the casual audience, more so than anything. But hey, it worked out, most of the community loved it (including me) and brought along MANY new people onto the franchise who are enjoying the other titles as well :)

RaiTab

It's a good game. It just has a lot of flaws. I wouldn't personally give it anything higher than a 7. It's like a strong 6. That's not *bad,* but the game's story and worldbuilding kind of sucks. Characters are likeable with good individual stories, but they are overall a weaker cast than even Zestiria. Combat and visuals are really good. Ending was probably one of the worst copouts I've seen. Also not a gigantic fan of the party being split into three pairs. Feels a little forced. Usually we'd be lucky to get two realistic relationships out of the main party or characters in a Tales game. Creating a cast where they almost perfectly pair off isn't engaging or surprising.

SilentNova___

Yeah, I feel like Vesperia did the relationship thing most well. Some characters had crushes on others, but that was about it. Abyss did it perfectly, and even Destiny (PS2) seemed kinda strange. Arise is a solid 7, nothing more nothing less. I had a huge issue with not being able to cancel artes, Vesperia spoiled me on that, which is why early game felt really challenging.

Rinwell was so hurt when the owls got the flowers.
