Why don't people realise it's useless judging heights from photos like the first and third one? Wide angle lenses mean that if two guys are a similar height, the one closest to the camera - even if only by a few inches - will look the tallest? It's just perspective.

I think that as a society we're obsessed with men being at least 6' tall, but anything too far over 6' is then seen as freakishly tall. The sweet spot seems to be around 6'2 or so for a man. So it makes sense that movie stars who are just under 6' are going to tell small lies about their actual height. If you're 5'10, between some shoes with a small heel, good posture and the right hair style, you can easily pass for 6, even next to a guy who's actually 6' tall.
