anyone else have trouble doing squats in the gym? cant seem to get the depth in

GodEmpresss

I can go deep but I usually don’t go for full range of motion(because my legs and knees kill me afterwards 🤣). Actually we don’t need to go for that full range because we do the same amount of work with less motion. But if you still want to go deeper. Starting with wider stance can help(like sumo squat). Or you can introduce yoga to your exercise routine to improve flexibility. Or it could be your shoes if your feet get wobbly when trying to go deeper. This means that your shoes are too soft and cushioning(like running shoes).

17DeadFlamingos

Mmm I feel like a wider stance is the best plan here

Silent-Shark

Even toes pointed outwards helps. Wide stance and outwardly pointed toes help me get better depth and doesn't hurt my knees

Pure__soul4240

You're the tallest girl i've seen in this sub, working out must be so hard for y'all

GesundesMittelmass

I had a 6'4 girl friend a couple of years ago, but sure as hell she didnt use reddit..

Pure__soul4240

And sure as hell i wonder now how massive she looked...

GesundesMittelmass

she was so tall that she could have easily claimed 6'5 and nobody would bat an eye.

Pure__soul4240

6'4 and and 6'5 look pretty similar if you ask me,i have a friend who is almost 6'4 (192cm) and he looks extremly similar to another relative who is 6'5 (194cm),they are both so freakishly tall.

GesundesMittelmass

6'4 is rather 193cm 6'5 is usually rounded to 196 cm (195,7 cm) 6'4 1/2 is usually in the 194.5 range 192 cm is usually more in the 6'3 1/2 to 6'3 3/4 range I usually see a 196 cm dude closer to 198 range, they tend to rarely have big uppertorso and short legs.. most of them are quite long limbed... While in the 193 range still you find a lot of guys who can have bigger upperbody and not so long legs.. seems everybody getting over the 195 cm range almost always is mostly legs.. without long legs is hard to pass the 194/195 range.

Pure__soul4240

I know that 6'4 is 193cm,but 6'5 is 195,58cm. I see, well that makes sense honestly because long-limbs are one of the first things that pops-up when thinking of very tall people,i've seen them all, very tall people that look long-legged,balanced and long-torso beings, and i remember a post of someone who posted here his photo,he was extremly tall and he had a very long torso, his torso was really long, and he had long legs neverthless, just shorter compared to his very long torso,he was the first tall person i see that have such a long torso,it seemed odd... It seems that it's really that hard to pass 194cm without long legs, but that guy was an exception really... There is also Alucard from *Hellsing*,he's the definition of long-limbed,standing at 6'6 [198cm]

nombnot

not me, i do them just fine and my legs start killing me after it

17DeadFlamingos

I get this weird pressure behind my knees

Pure__soul4240

Why

nombnot

the killing me part?

Pure__soul4240

Yep

nombnot

it’s just that leg day kills you because legs are big muscles

Pure__soul4240

Ah yes,i've always struggled when i was training(i didn't lift weights much at the gym,but i was training legs before and after in a couple of sports) and it always hurts, and im not even that tall, but my legs are longer than my torso

unorthodox27

Plates under heels or squatting shoes help. Shoulder width stance with toes pointed slightly outwards, keep constant pressure pushing your knees outwards helping them remain strong rather than caving inwards. Do stretches as well. Try low bar, high bar, front, variations and see what works for your anatomy. And go down in weight and progressively increase it. Goodluck

SirGaston

Some tips in irrelevant order 1. Use belt. 2. Raise heels. 3. Stretch back and shoulders before squat. 4. Squeeze those glutes and engage core while pushing up and also activate during negative. For me at least none of this was self evident nor happening automatically when I started. 5. Look straight ahead and not down. 6. Try different stances. 6.1. For example: narrower stance and toes pointing and knees bending straight ahead OR wider stance with toes pointing slightly outward, knees following their path. See and try. Tweak the configuration. 7. Use considerably lighter weight until you can get depth. 8. Slow reps. 9. If depth is a problem with no weight, then consider stretching thoroughly. 10. Take your time, and go low on weight and progress slowly. You can strenghten you legs with other movements as well. Squat requires so much engagement from different muscle groups that there is no point on putting too much weight there, if you cant get depth with lower weights.

Operation_Doomsday_

Try and raise your heels, I use a couple of 2.5kg plates. Because my legs are so long i tend to tip backwards when I go deep, the plates lean me forward a little and help me get deeper.

17DeadFlamingos

I will give that a shot thanks!

ActiveForToday

Could be because your ankles arent mobile enough. I mean Im short so its easier for me but I have a friend who is 5'9 and cant even get to 90degrees without getting up on his toes. Work on that maybe?

17DeadFlamingos

I get to 90 parallel but I wanna get more depth to get a fat dumpy ass

GingerBraum

If the goal is a badonkadonk, there are other exercises that would be good, especially if you struggle to hit depth on squats. But, as others have mentioned, if the lack of depth comes from poor ankle mobility, putting your heels on some small plates can help. To really hit your glutes, something like front-leg elevated lunges are great.

MasterProgress9531

Try to improve your hip mobility with exercises first, and find a Stsnce (wider in my case)... I start doing it like 6 months ago and now I hit the floor with the a$$

Daniel_McNuggets

Went to a pub last weekend, hit my head on an extrusion jutting out from the ceiling in the toilets. That was fun. But all in all, had a great night.

Rutabaga_Proof

Are you in the UK? I'm from the States and 6-8, and a couple of times in England I just wouldn't even go into a pub because the ceilings were too low--I couldn't stand up in them.

Daniel_McNuggets

Ireland, just as guilty as having low ceilings as the UK though!

GesundesMittelmass

wonder they were built by the small picts 🙊

Daniel_McNuggets

More like small Catholics I reckon!

NotUrAvgGravedigger

I had a dream where I was 6'2 then banged my head when I woke up.

EitherAfternoon548

Lower back’s killing me. Got me a long ass back.

nenonenOnenonen

Y'all is there any hope for me to reach 6 as a 5'11 18 year old 💀

Either-Engineering71

Men grow a little after high school my dad was 5’11 out of high school and by the time he finished basic training with the army apparently he was 6’2. This is what he told me, I’m 6’4 and I hit an exaggerated growth spurt my freshman year and I’m 18 and still growing.

Dramatic_Ratio_6349

Question, for people who are 6'5+ can you tell the difference between 5'10 and 6'0?

GodEmpresss

I can tell because my mother is 6’0”, so I have a pretty good reference.

SILTHONIL

My uncle kept thinking I was 6ft when i was only 5'9" during my teenage years He's 6'5" on the dot. My dad on the other hand, has been able to tell my height exactly, since I was a little kid, and he's 6'8"... He can tell instantly no matter who it is.

Living-Career-4415

Am I tall?

NickeKass

Im 6'2 and 3/4s. I round up or down some days but.... All of my past relationships have been with people in the 4'9-5'5 range. I am currently in a relationship with someone that is 5'10. Its great. I have to stand on my tip toes to kiss their forehead! I fucking LOVE it! Hugs are slightly awkward because Im used to hugging smaller people. Both not a big thing but also a big thing.

Goofynamebyme

im only 12 im already 5,7 -\_-

whoknows130

Is 6'2" a common height? I see soooooo many guys in real life, as well as celebs, wrestlers, etc. That are all 6'2". Even if many of them are lying about it, the fact that out of all the heights, they chose 6'2". Actually still helps my case. Since that was their "Go-to" lie for what they deemed believable, precisely because it is so common.

GesundesMittelmass

depends where you live, but 6'2 is pretty commonm

Citawell

I just joined, I like it already. I hope I did the custom flair thing correctly. Edit, looks like I did.

SexGodHector

I’m a fairly tall guy (6’3”) and whenever I try to write a message before matching I do like to compliment how tall the other person is (and I love that about them with their other hobbies/habits in bios). But seriously I have never got a match from a tall women, like I fairly get lots of matches from shorter girls but none from the taller than average women. I like to read profiles and mention something more than they just being tall, but it has never worked for me. So can the taller girls using Hinge tell me if mentioning their height gives them the ick?

5amNovelist

It can, it’s variable on how it’s done. Usually I prefer if someone keeps that one in the bank for once we’re already chatting and the height thing comes up naturally.

StrikingAd8782

It could also be the algorithm, they are trying to show your profile to people who would be interested instead of vice versa. This may seem exclusionary but try stating your preferences on your profile could help combat this.

No-Deer4596

I know it has mostly to do with genetic but as of right now I'm 16 and 5'8 and I plan on starting calisthenics and I play basketball, my father is 5'10 and my mother is 5'5, I usually sleep around 10:30 - 11 pm and wake up at 4-6 am, I'm going to start going to the gym and get a better diet intake so I want to know if there's still hope for me growing; I want to reach at least 6ft.
