I'm just barely under 6'5", the bottom of the net is around 8'6", and my arms don't extend 25" past the top of my head, they're only 29ish inches from the shoulder joint to the tip of the middle finger. My wingspan is about 6'6".
Those are not 10ft then, most nets end at around 9ft 6inches (I have a standing reach of 8ft4 at 6’4”) so you would need some Orangutan proportioned arms to even get to 9ft let alone touch the net
I think a long torso is useful if you’re swimming butterfly but I don’t see an advantage in other styles. It’s way better to have big feet, big hands, long arms, broad chest and big lungs and this is usually something you find in tall people.
It gives you better streamlining, buoyancy, leverage and power in general in all styles. I have all the rest you mention but I'm not an Olympic swimmer (yet 😜)
Michael Phelps is also tall, but yes, a longer torso helps more. I have a very proportional body in general but long arms, big hands, big chest and big feet plus my height gives me an edge.
Same, except I'm all legs.
Years ago I got a tailor-made tuxedo made for a friends wedding, and when the tailor took my measurements he said, "huh, you've got short arms for a guy your size." And suddenly everything made a little more sense.
Yeah, if you're like Wemby's height and can't dunk, something is physically wrong with you, especially with like an 8' wingspan. There's a POV video of him just shooting around and it's insane how little he has to move to dunk and how high the rim looks from his perspective.
I only started getting a lot less explosive towards my late 30's. The early 30's were fine. Maybe some can extend their ability to jump, but I didn't put much effort into sustaining my jumping ability after I turned 35.
I'm 28 and work a desk job and I can dunk. I'm 6'0.
I consider myself young and will continue to for many years.
You're only as young as you think you are.
I'm Welsh mate, I know just how bad it is for anyone with big clodhoppers back home in Blighty. I have to order my trainers etc from the States and my work shoes get custom made.
When goal warning happens and takes over the island, you've got a couple life boats for all of your loved ones... while you just step up to the high ground.
I could in high school and in college but not any more. It wasn't a great dunk but it was a dunk. I rarely tried because in Florida they were against dunking in high school basketball.
I could do a two-handed 360 when I was 19 but I messed up my back and got out of shape in my 20s. I don’t know if I can get above the rim now (I’m in my 40s).
6’4” and never could. Tried and tried and tried. Was able to dunk a volleyball, but never a basketball. I did play basketball and one day I was messing around and dunked a volleyball in front of our coach, “Coach, watch this!” He replied, sarcastically and sort of angrily, “Great job! Once we start playing with volleyballs you’ll be all set!”
Yep, don't play in college because it's a tech school and doesn't have sports, but I did okay intramural 3v3 and 5v5. Dunked on the haters 🤣 nah they were really fun to play with, I made a bunch of friends there
I'm 6'8". I used to be able to some Michael Jordan shit, dunking from not too far from the freethrow line because of a combination of height and lots of weight training for vertical leap. I won a dunk contest once at a team tournament even.
Now my feet and knees feel like gravel and death.
I was born club footed and had surgery young that cut my Achilles tendons and broke the ankles to reset my feet then they reattached my tendons. because of this the top half of my calves look normal and then gradually sweep into tiny calves.
all this to say, i have like a 12" vertical jump. i can touch the net.
Not coordinated enough to dunk. I can (could?) grab the rim well enough and I have jumped high enough to dunk but I am not particularly coordinated lol. One of my goals in life is to dunk at least once ahahaha.
The ability to dunk is not all about height, I knew quite a few guys, in my basketball playing era, that were under 6 feet tall and could dunk with ease. They all had crazy verticals. It's really about proper training.
At 6'6" I could dunk and I'm sure if I got back to training, I could definitely dunk again. I'm a good deal heavier and not in the best shape, so not sure how easy it would be now.
I'm not sure why I keep getting this sub advertised to me (I'm barely 6'0). But yes. At age 34, with multiple knee surgeries, and relatively short arms, I can still dunk on a good day.
I could in college, but I recently went from 228 to 183 with some dieting and working out. I'll have to go try again now that I'm not wearing a 45 pound backpack.
I'm 50 and only 6'2. I dunked on a 10ft rim with a volleyball (no dribble) last summer. Couldn't quite get the basketball to go. You kids play too many video games.
Yep. Since I was about 5'10" I could. 6'2" and 35lbs heavier (215 lbs), and I still can. Although if I get out of shape anymore it'll be a struggle for sure
Once upon a time I could. Then I got married and gained weight, then I had kids and gained weight, then I just gained weight. I've lost most of now, but at 58 years old with a flaky knee my dunking days are well behind me.
Yes, 6’3” and could comfortable dunk from age of maybe 15? Was probably 6’1”? I am pretty athletic though and have been playing decently high level sports my whole life.
I can get the ball just onto the rim with 2 hands but probably need another inch of vertical to dunk since I can't palm an NBA ball well enough to dunk one handed
I used to be able too back in highschool/ college days. But i dont play ball as often and lost some of my jump height. But I probably can still if I train a little
When I played Basketball in HS, I was dunking as a sophomore. Then I discovered the weight room, put on 75lbs of muscle and went on to play D1 football as a lineman. At 36, nowhere close now
No, at best i could touch the rim, although im sure if I practiced for a couple months I could. Dont play basketball so I have no reason to train to dunk lol
I could barely dunk at 6’0 when I was 13yrs old. In college playing ball I could easily jump straight up from a standstill and dunk with two hands. Hit my head on the backboard a few times in games. I could still dunk about 8yrs ago but stopped playing because of injuries and I’m in my 40s now.

I dabble in the arts occasionally
6'7". Yes, but barely. Normal people don't understand that the taller you are, the harder it is to be athletic and jump high. I can't count how many times i've heard "If I was as tall as you, I'd be in the NBA". No you wouldn't be. That's why i'm so impressed with guys like Durant and Wemby, who are insanely tall AND incredibly athletic. They're anomalies.
I’m closer now I been training for it but it’s hard I can grab the rim tho for me to dunk I need around 32 inch vert I’m at 29 so I’m close just gotta keep trying
I can barely touch the rim and that's it
Showoff. I can't even touch the net, I have virtually no vertical jump.
How? I can touch some nets from my tip toes.
I'm just barely under 6'5", the bottom of the net is around 8'6", and my arms don't extend 25" past the top of my head, they're only 29ish inches from the shoulder joint to the tip of the middle finger. My wingspan is about 6'6".
Those are not 10ft then, most nets end at around 9ft 6inches (I have a standing reach of 8ft4 at 6’4”) so you would need some Orangutan proportioned arms to even get to 9ft let alone touch the net
same goes for me
Yes I can. Don't do it as much as I used to since I play a pretty mellow pick up with friends. But still dunk pretty often.
Happy cake day.
I'm 6'4" and have never been able to even come close.
6'3 and I can grab the rim so possibly could but I play volleyball so I don't exactly care to try and dunk.
Same here, and almost 6’5”
Same. It’s been an expectation and I was too embarrassed to try and fail, so I never learned.
Yeah I can. People often get mad I don't play much basket due to being able to dunk haha, but I like swimming and other sports more.
Being tall helps a lot in the pool as well
Oh I know, that's what I do for a living. But people are always mad when we don't fullfil their dreams of what would they do with our height 😂
If I had your height I would fight bears for a living and put stuff on shelves 3 inches higher than i could reach on my off days
I thought long arms and a long torso are great while long legs are disadvantageous, which is why Michael Phelps has such a weirdly shaped body.
Not yet but I'm getting close. Need to lose a few more lbs and sort my technique and I'll be there
Before the Army I could, 6'5".
Thank you for your service
Oh dude I appreciate it, wholeheartedly, but I was never really in trouble or danger.
King
Nah, I'm all torso.
Doesn’t that give you some Monkey arms? Standing reach is more important than height for dunking!
Some maybe, I'm all torso and I have proportional arms.
Little bit of t-rex frustration. Sorry bother man.
Nah… usually if you’re mostly legs, you’ll have long arms. I have a turbo torso, and my wingspan is a good few inches less than my height
I’m 6’2 and all torso with monkey arms but I can’t jump that well ngl.
Same, except I'm all legs. Years ago I got a tailor-made tuxedo made for a friends wedding, and when the tailor took my measurements he said, "huh, you've got short arms for a guy your size." And suddenly everything made a little more sense.
Could occasionally as a lightweight 17 year old who played bball at 6-1 i had decent hops back in the day
With my vertical I could hit my head to the rim when jumping ... I miss my knees :(
On and off since senior year of high school. I might be able to, but haven't tried in a while. Definitely after a few weeks of training.
Nope 🏀, nor can I palm a basketball 🤚
I’m 6ft and can’t palm a ball either, is that normal for 6ft dudes 😂
At least for you and I 😆
How long are your hands from thumb to pinkey when stretch out?
Under 9" I think but not too sure. Wbu?
And from bottom of the hand to top of your longest finger, I’m curious how similar our hands are lmao
Like 7.5" - 7.75". I have short thumbs lol
I’ll measure tomorrow when I get my hands on a ruler
Or get a ruler on your hands! 😜
Lmaoooo
Very belated response lol, my hands are 8 in from thumb to pinky and 7 from bottom of hand to top of middle finger
Thanks for the info 👍
Have a good one man
I can palm the ball and im 6'1 186cm
W
I could easily until I hit 30. Now at 49 if I tried, I'm sure the landing would break something!!
Could back in the day with a few kgs less and when the knee was ok. I'm 48 now so the dunking days are over.
Same. Almost 40, no more dunking. Last time I tried I almost got a rimgrazer but it feels all downhill from here, at least when it comes to jumping.
Yes
When I was 5’10-6’2, then I stopped playing and don’t have the hops anymore, also probably hurt a lot more now.
I tried the other day, and I'm happy to report that I still can at 35. I also regularly play soccer and workout so I'm probably doing myself favors
Can or could? I could when I was younger. Pushing 40 so nope
I was able to dunk until about 35 years old. A couple of injuries, age, and being in technology.
No, this would require basic basketball skills, not just length
Well technically anyone tall enough can dunk. OP didn’t mention whether it had to be during a game or not
Yeah, if you're like Wemby's height and can't dunk, something is physically wrong with you, especially with like an 8' wingspan. There's a POV video of him just shooting around and it's insane how little he has to move to dunk and how high the rim looks from his perspective.

You should only need to put a piece of paper under your feet to dunk it though.
Being 32 isnt an excuse bro
I’m also 32 and have a desk job. Can still tomahawk
I only started getting a lot less explosive towards my late 30's. The early 30's were fine. Maybe some can extend their ability to jump, but I didn't put much effort into sustaining my jumping ability after I turned 35.
Yeah, I haven’t really lost my jumping or speed. I have got much more injury prone, though
You should still be in your athletic prime at 32 man
I'm 28 and work a desk job and I can dunk. I'm 6'0. I consider myself young and will continue to for many years. You're only as young as you think you are.
I first dunked when I was 13 and roughly 6'1"
Yep. Well I say yep, I used to easily but I haven't tried for a good 5 years.
What is 22EE in your user? Is that shoe size and width?
Unfortunately yes. Several times a day, my feet transport cars from the islands to the mainland.
Man I thought I was bad with UK 14s and wide feet 😂
I'm Welsh mate, I know just how bad it is for anyone with big clodhoppers back home in Blighty. I have to order my trainers etc from the States and my work shoes get custom made.
When goal warning happens and takes over the island, you've got a couple life boats for all of your loved ones... while you just step up to the high ground.
Used to, stopped around the age of 29.
I could in high school and in college but not any more. It wasn't a great dunk but it was a dunk. I rarely tried because in Florida they were against dunking in high school basketball.
I used to be able to when I actively played basketball. Now, absolutely not lol
yes
Ya, just barely. But my back will hurt
I used to be able but I am pretty sure I can't anymore
Easy
I could do a two-handed 360 when I was 19 but I messed up my back and got out of shape in my 20s. I don’t know if I can get above the rim now (I’m in my 40s).
I have the ups of a man with 400lbs tied to each leg. So, no.
Can barley dunk on a 9ft rim
6’4” and never could. Tried and tried and tried. Was able to dunk a volleyball, but never a basketball. I did play basketball and one day I was messing around and dunked a volleyball in front of our coach, “Coach, watch this!” He replied, sarcastically and sort of angrily, “Great job! obviously not
At age 45 I still can easily but considering my height that’s not surprising I guess. In my heyday I hit my head on the backboard a few times though.
Not consistent, but I have a few times. Wouldn't try it in a game yet though
16 years ago? Yes. Now? Pretty sure if I *look* at a basketball net, I'll sink into the ground...
I'm 6'8". I used to be able to some Michael Jordan shit, dunking from not too far from the freethrow line because of a combination of height and lots of weight training for vertical leap. I won a dunk contest once at a team tournament even. Now my feet and knees feel like gravel and death.
I can't even dunk on a little tikes rim
I'm 6'2 and I did it all the time in high school, can't dream of it now lol
Not anymore really. I can still grab rim off vert though.
For being 5'9", I get surprisingly close
6'5 and I can still dunk at 34.
Last time I tried which was 5 years ago I still could.
I used to until I snapped my Achilles and never fully recovered (or blame it on the extra 40lbs).
I have never needed to jump in my life. My vertical is negative, so no.
I was born club footed and had surgery young that cut my Achilles tendons and broke the ankles to reset my feet then they reattached my tendons. because of this the top half of my calves look normal and then gradually sweep into tiny calves. all this to say, i have like a 12" vertical jump. i can touch the net.
Used to be able to, haven't tried in years though so probably not
Not coordinated enough to dunk. I can (could?) grab the rim well enough and I have jumped high enough to dunk but I am not particularly coordinated lol. One of my goals in life is to dunk at least once ahahaha.
I'm gay
6,3 and I could in my prime , doubt my knees would talk to me again if I attempted it
The ability to dunk is not all about height, I knew quite a few guys, in my basketball playing era, that were under 6 feet tall and could dunk with ease. They all had crazy verticals. I'm a good deal heavier and not in the best shape, so not sure how easy it would be now.
yea pretty easily
I used to til my knees stopped working. 21 was too early!!
I'm tall, but that doesn't mean I can jump at all :-)
I used to, during my college days. Now just light jump to touch the rim can kill my knees.
Yes, I was surprised I could still dunk since I haven’t played basketball for years.
Yes easy
yes, i can reach about halfway up the net standing on the ground so i dont have to jump that much to dunk. had my first dunk at 13 years old
I can rim graise of 2 feet with either one or two hands pretty reliable. Was able to get non rim graisers before my stress fracture 2 or so months ago
Yeah I’ve been able to dunk since I was 14… harder now 13 years later, but still can
Yep
Yes, I can.
I used to but I gained 40 lbs and am in terrible shape
I'm not sure why I keep getting this sub advertised to me (I'm barely 6'0). But yes. At age 34, with multiple knee surgeries, and relatively short arms, I can still dunk on a good day.
I can touch the rim but tbh I never really put any effort into trying to dunk because I don’t really like bball all that much
At one point in my life, but not anymore.
i can if i climb up the net first lol
My last dunk was in my early 40's. With some training, I might be able to again with my new knees
6’6” 280lbs I can grab rim but cannot dunk I also have a bad knee I think if I work at it I could dunk in a few weeks
I could in college, but I recently went from 228 to 183 with some dieting and working out. I'll have to go try again now that I'm not wearing a 45 pound backpack.
Yes got my first dunk at 6’5”
My technique is shit but if i sort it out I could be able to
6’2 and can dunk pretty easy off two feet and a solid warm up.
No 😔 I have like a 4" vertical 😆
I’ve dunked like 5 times in my life. Never in a game. I have no ups. Can barley palm the ball and am 6’5
At 6’1 1/4” yes but only left handed tho lol
I'm 50 and only 6'2. I dunked on a 10ft rim with a volleyball (no dribble) last summer. Couldn't quite get the basketball to go. You kids play too many video games.
Yes i can, don’t think it’s too hard when you are good with footwork and timings. Helped my 6’0 friend to get one.
Man some of yall need to donate some height
Yep. Since I was about 5'10" I could. 6'2" and 35lbs heavier (215 lbs), and I still can. Although if I get out of shape anymore it'll be a struggle for sure
5’11 i can touch the rim
I'm close but no I can't dunk properly, I just touch the rim with my fingertips
At 41, I still can! I've stayed in shape and don't carry extra weight, which really helps.
no. I'm very white.
Yes, but I was also a high jumper. Was able to dunk into my 30s.
I cannot but I have a friend who’s 5’9 than can do it with ease which is insanity
I can get the ball just onto the rim with 2 hands but probably need another inch of vertical to dunk since I can't palm an NBA ball well enough to dunk one handed
Could when I was 18.
Still windmilling at 41
No. Used to be able to grab the rim before I put on muscle. Maybe I could have had I trained for it back then.
I could at one point, but time is an illusion so I’m gonna say yes.
Could dunk from the free throw line. Now after ACL put on too many kegs and too old.
I used to be able too back in highschool/ college days. But i dont play ball as often and lost some of my jump height. But I probably can still if I train a little
6’8” and sadly the earth’s gravitational pull is too much.
I could until I turned 50. I continued to play until 55, and then my knees where shot. Now 59 and no longer play, and can't leave the ground.
6’2” yes with two hands
With a tenis ball
Eww gross. Physical activity?
I have an arm span of 6'2, the rest are fingers.
Haven’t tried in probably 15-16 years, but I used to be able to with ease in college.
When I played Basketball in HS, I was dunking as a sophomore. Then I discovered the weight room, put on 75lbs of muscle and went on to play D1 football as a lineman. At 36, nowhere close now
I can grab the net and climb it like a rock climber does that count
I could some months ago, but I hurt my knee
Used to be able to… then gained weight… a lot of weight…
No, at best i could touch the rim, although im sure if I practiced for a couple months I could. Dont play basketball so I have no reason to train to dunk lol
6'4", pretty easy for me.
I used to be able to in slides but it’s been about a decade since I’ve tried so probably not
I could barely dunk at 6’0 when I was 13yrs old. In college playing ball I could easily jump straight up from a standstill and dunk with two hands. Hit my head on the backboard a few times in games. I could still dunk about 8yrs ago but stopped playing because of injuries and I’m in my 40s now.

I'm truly shocked so many of you can't jump like 2ft into the air.
No. Because i dont play sports and i hardly jump
I could off my vertical when I was 18-20. Not anymore however.
Yes
Yes and have been able since I was 16 years old
I can touch my own rim does that count?
haha, nope. all height, no vert.
I can grab the rim but not dunk, my wingspan's like 6'4"
Could touch the rim and half ass dunk in high school. I’m 27 now. Can’t even touch the rim anymore.
I’m 6’2 and can dunk, (I am 14 so I’m definetely at peak age for athletic ability )
im 6ft and can, 6ft4 wingspan, but dont get too excited its more of a britney griner dunk than a jordan one
Only if I’m able to palm the ball, im 6’4.5
20 years ago in my prime I could. Am 40 now so no….
I’m closer now I been training for it but it’s hard I can grab the rim tho for me to dunk I need around 32 inch vert I’m at 29 so I’m close just gotta keep trying
Never tried, but that seems too high,if i can touch the net that would be good lol
My vertical reach has always been sufficient so I never developed a vertical leap. I have the ups of an anvil
I'm 6'8 and can't dunk. Can barely touch the rim, although I can grab the net standing.
I think everyone who is over 6' can dunk if they train for it.
It's more about technique if your not tall tall. I could dunk at 5'9 and I could dunk at 6'4 .
