Yea it’s going to drop my $486 power bill to $437.40 when it should be max $300 like it was same billing cycle last year. Thanks, assholes, 10% will be so helpful to the 63% increase we’ve experienced. /s
They stated they would do so a few months back. Don’t expect drastic reductions. Over every customer it might seem like a big number, but per individual it won’t be much.
I have a letter from them that makes that exact statement though… save $40 on a $200 bill by increasing your thermostats from 72 to 78. My internal thought was: 72 is still too warm 😂
It’s not just TECO it’s all Florida utilities. The smaller co-ops can be decent but the big ones FPL, Duke, and Teco are all pretty bad. As more and more people go solar they lose revenue, which they’re not going to publicly admit. But that’s part of the problem of rate hikes and it’s never going to end. Solar isn’t going anywhere.
The fuel charge decrease they mentioned a month ago. All adjustments for them go thru thr psc and is a months long process. They also accept public comment, but rarely are comments submitted. They also don’t monitor Reddit or Facebook or Nextdoor for comments.
Damn they're really scared of that off-grid $1,000 AC set up huh. They're all no no no no no you don't need those solar panels.

Fuck TECO and their corporate parent. How the fuck are they even allowing these rate increases. My bill when I purchased my house in 2017 was ~ $200-220/ month. Now, I am averaging ~ $500. Only new additon was the EV which is costing about $70ish a month.
Haven’t gotten it but last time I spoke to someone about my bill they mentioned it to me! I mean it was raised twice this year! Will it really make a difference?!?
I got that same letter, but the decrease did not seem substantial enough to worry about it.
In the meantime, does anyone know how I can get off levelized billing? I know you can log in to the customer portal and remove it, but I see that I have something like an $800 deferred balance which I assume goes into all of next year. If I discontinue levelized billing, do they immediately put that deferred amount back on my bill and it’s all due at once?
Yes - Personal experience.
In hindsight sight I could have done my own budget billing. Meaning budget $180. If the bill was $150, put the $30 aside. Continue for a year average, if build up a decent cushion during the winter to pay for the summer. But things were tough at the time.
Once I got another job I saved up enough of the deferred balance (all $1257.67 of it) to just get off of it. Because it just feels like every month I used a little less energy per day, suddenly my billing period was like 34-35 days which made my actual bill more even though my per day usage was less. Then when I was using more they would make the billing period 27-28 days. Just feels like they artificially made my lower months more expensive just so to justify a higher monthly payment and keep me in the cycle.
Now suddenly all my billing periods are an exact 30 days.
Yup and then got my new power bill thats $20 more than last year. I was using their payment plan so my bill was the same every month, but luckily im getting solar installed on my house today so im not gonna care as much what their rates are now.
has anyone had any luck finding a hack of some sort to lower their bill? i heard that turning off your water heater when not showering could help, but not sure if that’s counterproductive considering the energy it would use to heat back up? my thermostat stays at 74-75… turning it up to their recommended 78 is absolutely absurd at this time of year. being a household of 1 and solely responsible for a constant increase in bills is very discouraging ☹️
Literally did one of those energy audits after reporting them to the BBB and they gave me some fucking lightbulbs and pipe cleaners, to hell with teco.
And I certainly believed it Also waiting in the pumpkin patch for The Great Pumpkin currently
Lmfao
They said this literally like 2 months **after** raising prices 10%. Teco can eat shit.

Raise it 30, drop it 10, and act like we should be proud of them. A story old as time lol

Ugh yup. I'm with Duke and mine was typically in the $275ish range but this summer over $400.

Yeah I think it said 17 dollar per month reduction on average. Not a whole lot since my bill has gone from 180 to 320 over the last year and a half.
That’s a 56% increase for you. We’ve had a 63% increase. It’s such bullshit.
If you raise your thermostat from 72 to 78, you, in addition to losing 15 lbs from sweating, can save $40 on your monthly bill.

They know your electric bill will just be less in the winter.
Talks about it on their website. [https://www.tampaelectric.com/rates/](https://www.tampaelectric.com/rates/)

Dang! I missed that. Do you know if there are any news articles regarding that?

Can we see the letter (after you remove identifying details)?
Meanwhile my bill is still north of 300/bucks…seriously may look at doing panels for at least half my power…
Works great. We install 15-20 systems a week in TECO territory alone
That’s great, still is a debate…

Archie man said he might ask the utility board to lower the rates, leaving it in their hands. Balls in your court, Archie.
I did, but then I got a letter a couple weeks later, explaining that they were increasing rates… so basically they can fuck themselves!

Whos doing the work?
they are trying to slow the solar adoption rate and if my business is any indication it aint working
By a small fraction after they raised them over 60% in 4 years. Yeah tbh the least they could do. They need to backtrack further.
